When shit hits the fan, get the windex!
Thanks to a neighbor (who also has an "illegal" 75 lb dog) and bad timing, I was given a choice veiled threat either cough up a grand for the kit, or get out.
Granted, we were sneaky and just brought the furball home without notifying the landlord, but kitty is litter trained and hasn't done one cent of damage to the apt. Rules exsist for a reason, thats fine. After being confronted by the manager (who was rude and looking for a fight) I calming went to his apt and tried to discuss things, like rational adults should. I made it clear that I wasn't attempting to get out of paying a second deposit, but that asked if we could pay it in three months. (Inubaby's deposit was only $450)
Shocking the manager was polite this time and acknowledged that we had a great payment record and we were good tenants, but wasn't willing to break the deposit up. It wasn't us, it was just the landlords policy: no exceptions. He also said he really didn't care if we had the cat, but since our other neighbor was turned in for having the second dog (who was over the weight limit and NO deposit) it was only fair to hold everyone to the same rules.
I get that.
I think my calmness payed off in some respect, "J" is giving us until next Monday to figure out what to do. Today isn't a good day and this is only making it worse, but I'm trying to stay positive. What it comes down to is, $1000 is alot of money right now, three months ago things were a tad different.
Hubs came home during his lunch hour and he learned all about it. He wasn't surprised, but disappointed that the landloard wouldn't compromise. We both know that giving up kitty may end up having to happen, but Hubby is relieved that we have some time. At least we can make sure Eu get a good home, I really DON'T want to do this, but I may not have a choice.
Something else popped up during our conversation as well, the storage for Hubby's swimmers (that he had stored prior to the cancer treatment) is paid until January 2010, which means we need to either use it, donate it or have it destroyed. Before he returned to work, Steven made it clear that we don't have to choose "right now" but still need to have the conversation.
I'm gonna be sick. :(

Good luck with the conversation, LM. Thinking of you.
Natalie: I can understand the reason behind not wanting payments, but a compromise isn't too much to ask.
I hope the money problem is solved and you keep your kitty...
Sad
Hubby just got off the phone with the owner (not the manager) and while the talk was civil and he was very understanding, he won't budge. Too many people have burned him in the past. The owner did agree with managment to give us until next week, to either pay the deposit, or remove the animal, if not we risk evicion. Not only that, but as of January, our rent is increasing. (the rent increase, we saw coming, so thats not a huge thing)
((hugs))
Hoping things work out for both of you. Hugs!
Brian: thanks :)
AHP: This morning was good, we made some headway.
GG: Thanks.
Smerlin: No, no deposits for kids.
Harvey: It will be okay.
Wanderer: Aw, thanks.
