When shit hits the fan, get the windex!

Thanks to a neighbor (who also has an "illegal" 75 lb dog) and bad timing, I was given a choice veiled threat  either cough up a grand for the kit, or get out.

Granted, we were sneaky and just brought the furball home without notifying the landlord, but kitty is litter trained and hasn't done one cent of damage to the apt. Rules exsist for a reason, thats fine.  After being confronted by the manager (who was rude and looking for a fight) I calming  went to his apt and tried to discuss things, like rational adults should.  I made it clear that I wasn't attempting to get out of paying a second deposit, but that asked if we could pay it in three months. (Inubaby's deposit was only $450)

Shocking the manager was polite this time and acknowledged that we had a great payment record and we were good tenants, but wasn't willing to break the deposit up. It wasn't us, it was just the landlords policy: no exceptions. He also said he really didn't care if we had the cat, but since our other neighbor was turned in for having the second dog (who was over the weight limit and NO deposit) it was only fair to hold everyone to the same rules.

I get that.

I think my calmness payed off in some respect, "J" is giving us until next Monday to figure out what to do. Today isn't a good day and this is only making it worse, but I'm trying to stay positive. What it comes down to is, $1000 is alot of money right now, three months ago things were a tad different.

Hubs came home during his lunch hour and he learned all about it. He wasn't surprised, but disappointed that the landloard wouldn't compromise. We both know that giving up kitty may end up having to happen, but Hubby is relieved that we have some time.  At least we can make sure Eu get a good home, I really DON'T want to do this, but I may not have a choice.

Something else popped up during our conversation as well, the storage for Hubby's swimmers (that he had stored prior to the cancer treatment) is paid until January 2010, which means we need to either use it, donate it or have it destroyed. Before he returned to work, Steven made it clear that we don't have to choose "right now" but still need to have the conversation.

I'm gonna be sick. :(

Chuck: Its just alot to process right now.
He's being fair so he doesn't get sued. You agree to pay. Tell your neighbor you agreed to pay and drop it. I'll bet your landlord never mentions it again. It was the dogs he was worried about.
Jesus, what a day. And what an asshole your landlord is. What damage to property could a kitten do that would require a $1000 bond?

Good luck with the conversation, LM. Thinking of you.
WS: We want to pay but we can't swing in one lump sum. Hubs is gonna call the owner directly in the morning and see if he can work something out.

Natalie: I can understand the reason behind not wanting payments, but a compromise isn't too much to ask.
Sorry, LadyMiko,

I hope the money problem is solved and you keep your kitty...

Sad
PS: Whatever happens, it will be okay.
I know how tough this stuff is. My apartment is supposed to be pet-free, but I currently have two illegal furries hanging with me until a better spot is found for us/them. I've got my fingers crossed for you, Lady Miko!
That sucks beyond sucks. I'd take that kitty in a heartbeat if I could. My cats have already trashed my place so it wouldn't matter much. Good luck, Kiddo. I'm sad for you.
Owl, Micheal . . thank you.

Hubby just got off the phone with the owner (not the manager) and while the talk was civil and he was very understanding, he won't budge. Too many people have burned him in the past. The owner did agree with managment to give us until next week, to either pay the deposit, or remove the animal, if not we risk evicion. Not only that, but as of January, our rent is increasing. (the rent increase, we saw coming, so thats not a huge thing)
so the part about the swimmers, is that saying either make a baby the hard way.. let some one else try their hand at it or just flush the whole idea.. that sucks.. i mean if you cant go about it the traditional way it sucks to be on a time limit.. Course I would take a baby over a cat any day.. im sure you guys will be ok though
Barbra: Yeah, the tad poles are on a time limit. :(
This sucks, I'm so sorry you have to go through this now, LadyMiko.
Bummer! Some days, the bad news just cascades. I hope the next few days show you a solution.
Oh, I'm so sorry. That sucks. Maybe a friend could watch the kitten until you save up for the deposit?

Hoping things work out for both of you. Hugs!
Do they want an additional deposit if you decide to have a kid? No wonder this country is going to the dogs....only, if it did, we might all be better off. Dogs usually make good decisions about people, but people often make bad decisions about dogs. I feel for you because my GF and I have four cats between us and we won't move anywhere we can't take them.
LadyMiko, back when I was growing up, there was a song describing situations such as yours: "Life Gets Tejus, Don't It." Of course tedious means boring. Your situation is anything but boring, but problems do arise with boring regularity. Surely you can work this out. I certainly hope so.
Thoth: Its hard, but its life.

Brian: thanks :)

AHP: This morning was good, we made some headway.

GG: Thanks.

Smerlin: No, no deposits for kids.

Harvey: It will be okay.

Wanderer: Aw, thanks.
