Bio
Yes, that's me, ringing up a little mojo for my Fightin' Phils during the 2008 World Series. I grew up, in 1950s and 60s suburbia, with the heart of a frontierswoman. I grew up a Catholic with the heart of a seeker of the Divine Feminine. I grew up a girl and a woman, when being either "just wasn't good enough," with the heart of a warrior priestess of a warrior goddess. My favorite television shows are (from the mid 90s) Profiler, (from the early 21st Century) Witchblade, and (now) Saving Grace, so you know where my mind still is. I was a journalist before big advertising bullies started owning the media and quit (after a long, loud battle) when I saw what they were doing. I was the oldest, and the most eccentric, of seven children in an Irish American family. I married, divorced, and now have a significant other. I am a "budding" herbalist, a mother of four avians (My poor Keenan died recently.), a guerilla gardener, an adjunct professor of pre-composition college writing, a poet, a fiction writer, a creative non-fiction writer, a feature writer, and now a player and a blogger of women's baseball.

Former Arizona Wildcat Jenny Dalton-Hall, shown here during her University of Arizona years when she was part of three national softball championship teams, will join 17 other women from the nation to compete in the Fourth World Cup of Women's Baseball in Venezuela starting Aug. 12. This is her first World Cup appearance. It is my sincere hope that more coverage will be given to this 12-team tournament than to Women's World Cups in the past. Needless to say, I will be blogging the tournament as faithfully as I can.

Yoshida falls to 0-3; receives city proclamation, HOF display

Eri in defeat

More than 1,700 fans came out to watch Japanese knuckleballer Eri Yoshida at the Aug. 1 Calgary Vipers game. Although she lasted only an inning and a third, her Chico Outlaws won, 16-13. Photo by Robert Durell, REUTERS. Before the team left on its roadtrip, Yoshida received a proclamation of achievement from Chico's Mayor Ann Schwab and city council. The proclamation pointed to Yoshida's achievements this year on the baseball diamond and her "positive impact" on the city. Also, the Chico Outlaws website has this photo of Yoshida's contribution to the "What's Happening Now" portion of the National Baseball Hall of Fame:

This is softball? I've seen women's softball and it's at least as scary as hardball. Those ladies have a velocity some major leaguers would envy.
