For Stellaa: Lisa's Favorite Table

Rate: 15 Flag

My favorite table is about the only piece of furniture I have sold in my entire life. I just could not see it as "Floridian", but I wish now that I still had it. All these pictures are pre-digital, at least seven years old. Wish I had better for you, Stellaa, but here is my table:

I have no idea of the style, but its warm cherry finish and casual but elegant style suited me. We bought it from the owners of our first home as a married couple. I bet the sellers never thought it would travel to Australia and back. This is the dining area in Aussie home #3. This picture does not do that space justice, unfortunately.

The table held center stage in Aussie Home 2, my favorite of our three homes and three apartments rented over a two year period...long story.

This photo taken from the French Doors looking out toward the estuary, focused toward the front door and staircase. The landlords left behind their piano -- I loved having it during the holidays.

The great exchange rate in the late 1990's allowed me to splurge on the one thing that Aussies did "collect",  which was fine china and crystal. The economy offered me something I would not have considered otherwise. We had to entertain my husband's fellow executives -- a lot of pressure landed on me during those times. :(        ;)   Above is a Sunday brunch set-up.

Another benefit of the thriving economy and the ex-pat assignment was the fact that I didn't have to have a job while in AU.  Indulging the opportunity to be a stay-at-home-wife without kids, during the days, I took floral art courses to bring additional color to my favorite table top.

Festive for the holidays

This table was enjoyed in a home where I saw the end of a rainbow in my own backyard. No pot of gold or leprechaun, but magical all the same!
The rainbows are just another multi-colored memory to take away from this fantastic home, complete with dolphin jumping and
fairy penguins dancing.

L, I loved seeing a part of your great, former life. I hope you get to visit now and then. It will be sweet, but as we both know from experience, you can never totally go home. Be Well,
G
Thanks, G. I love doing these photo requests -- helps us to a glimpse into each other's lives.
Lisa, I'm figuring that this is the house that you talked about in your post a few months ago. If I have that right, this is the house you moved into right after all of the storm damage occured at the previous location. Judging by the beautiful view in the last photo I'm guessing that this was the house that you liked so much. It's fun to see the visuals after reading the earlier story. I also have to say that the floral arrangements look totally professional, too!
Super cool!
I would have thought that was something out of Better Homes & Gardens!

As for what is "Floridian"? What the heck is that, anyway? I'm in Florida, but I live in a cave. ;)

(enthusiastically thumbified)
Hey D, thanks for remembering that tale. I have part of the post about that home completed. Most of them are of the backyard, which was my favorite due to the view. As I look back, I have VERY few photos of that home. Just lot of memories. But, YES, you are correct about this being the home we moved into after the flood! :)
Thanks, Jodi. I was thinking that I liked your table VERY much. The chairs you have are just like the chairs we had when I was growing up, so they look VERY familiar (homey).

I think I am probably about 25 years older than you, or at least close to that. Also, this home we lived in while in Australia was EXCEPTIONAL by all standards. We were only renting it, it would have been totally out of reach, even with the strong dollar. Probably about $850,000 US, about $1,200,000 or better AU.

So, the architecture alone could have been out of House and Garden -- very easily. Funny thing is that it was a very traditional home and my fairly country traditional furniture looked nice in it. When the owners came back, and invited me over for book club, the entire home was redone in an Asian theme. Just like Gary said, it would be nice to go back, but in this case, I think utterly impossible!

I really like your style, Jodi -- eclectic was my preferred style until at least age 35. I still enjoy it, just am more "matchy-match" now...not sure that is for the best?!
Lovely arrangements, seems like you took the floral courses to the next level. Thanks for sharing part of your life with us.
I once had maple chairs similar to these that were made by a craftsman in New England and sold to me in an antique store I stumbled by in New Jersey during a trip to the shore.

Gorgeous flowers Lisa and love the rainbow, but then, look next to my name here...of course, I do.
Thanks, BB and Susanne. The funny thing is that the teacher told me something like, "Too bad you started too late in life, you might have been able to develop a talent for this..." What did that mean? I photographed them from their best angles (of course), but I liked my work. I think I preferred arrangements more structures will the rest did them more airy. I entered into an advanced class with a neighbor, so missed a lot of the basics and had to make do...so I appreciate your compliments...I like flowers and my mom was a florist by trade. She is VERY talented, believe me, I am a beginner compared to the lovely things she can put together.

Glad you liked it Stellaa. I do like to entertain, even if it stresses me agead of time...;)
It's so good to see these pictures, especially this time of year, and especially this particular time of year. When I wrote about my home today, I had spent an unnecessary amount of time worrying about the market. Shifting to home and friends helped shift me out of my negativity. Your post has helped me along as well. Thank you.
It's just occurred to me that they might well BE the chairs you had growing up. LOL

;0)
Hey Jodi, I don't think so as I grew up in Illinois. My step-daughter in law in Illinois has the matching buffet cabinet. All we need do is find the table and we will have a matched set! ;)
I love the table in all its incarnations and I'm sad it's gone. Great post!
Thanks, PF. We need to do more of these "Happy Times" posts to make each other smile!
Love this -- I especially like the part with your floral designs! I feel that kitchen tables, dining room tables -- they activate these deep memories and desires, even ones we may not have known we had. Like finding out we kinda like centerpieces (even though I have few domestic skills and mocked my mom's wax fruit she sometimes kept on our kitchen table)! Thanks.
Hey, Alice, you are very correct when you write: "they activate these deep memories and desires, even ones we may not have known we had"

My mother didn't have a lot of patience for me when I tried to help her in her floral shop. I was only eleven at the time, so probably put together some clumsy arrangements. I guess as an adult, I still had the desire to create as she did. We cannot help indulging some things that run very deep within us!
Thanks for sharing. I am hoping to get mine up, too.
Go Denise -- I would love to see how you have recovered!
Beautiful table and beautiful pictures. I love the floral arrangements!
