It's not so bad being number two

Rate: 14 Flag

A huge thanks to the many Open Salon readers who propelled me from nowhere to the number two spot when you type "Lauerman" in Google (thank you to Salon for the publishing platform, as well!). Perhaps results may vary from computer to computer. It may be a simple case of my computer not wanting me to have an inferiority complex by having my blog show up on page 239 of a Google search.

You're welcome Larry.
Hey, never thought of googling myself that way. I lost out to an office products outfit (probably in Iowa, I dunno, I'm not gonna click on 'em) & my last name straight up on ancestry.com. They qualify as unfair competition, don't you think? One way to vault to the top is to change your name to something like Curlingfester. It's available, I checked.
I checked "Myriad" on Google, but of course myriad companies use the name. Some of them for baffling applications, like this one: "Myriad has announced a new tool called Alien Dalvik which allows phone makers, operators nd others to offer Android applications for non-Android phones". (Tho if you're into aliens and androids, it may make perfect sense.)

Googling my real name brings up myriad (sorry) people with the same not-all-that-common name who seem to be leading far more interesting lives (movie actress, model, aerobics specialist), but none of whom blog on OS.
You know Larry, I have always been number 5-6 in life and I think it's a good thing because it just makes you work harder. But then again who really wants the number one spot as the only place to go is down.

I am positive yours will go up but just be careful of that greasy cyber pole unless you are pole dancing.

Nabbed three out of the top five with "HarleeGirl" but Number One eluded me. Still, not bad for dog.
Congrats...always good to see one's name associated with something positive!
What I found out from googling "Lorraine Berry." Did you know that there are at least a dozen Lorraine Berrys in this world? Who would have thought?
Anyway, I think I'm #1 because of an article I wrote for Salon in October. But at what point do you stop googling yourself? And should you admit you google yourself? Is it something you should only do in private? How healthy is it? Will it make hair grow on my palms?
you're not quite #2 on my google search this morning but still on the first page, and kerry's blog is nowhere in sight. not that there's a competition going on or anything ...

good on ya, larry.
Larry, Kerry (Berry) - are you twins? A dual personality? And who'd Zerry?
Now I don't feel so bad about googling "Bellwether..." every now and then. (And I am grateful for Salon for the platform!)
Though deceased, a British SS who wrote THE book on horseback riding regularly kicked my Google ass, often by several pages. I'm thrilled to report, as of today, the live me and my trusty OS blog are number *5* after, who else, the horsey Sally Swift.

And, the top of "related searches" is sally swift open salon! (It's next to sally swift obituary, but, well, whatever).
I switched to my real name here for about 17 hours, and then thought better of it. Unfortunately, I had written a post titled "My Life With The Mafia" which comes up on lots of searches...it was over a year ago, but if I suddenly disappear please tell my friends and family that i love them. (And if I were to be whacked, I give Larry the rights to the story.)
Congratulations! I am happy I finally come up at all when you google my full name!! Woohoo!

So glad to be of service. Thats really wonderful. You know at google my numbers have only been dropping. From over 100,000 to below 20,000.
Hey where have you been? We are celebrating the 4th of July and my birthday too...it was less than a week ago.
