This segment from Bill Moyers was fascinating, but extremely scary. Thank you very much for sharing this with us. Although I’m quite aware of the language used by Glenn Beck et al., the segment made me very angry. What’s going on right now with Poorsinner on the other thread is good example about how some people can be easily manipulated.
I remember this segment when it aired, and am only surprised that it has taken several years for the killings to occur. The trolls on this subject represent their side 'poorly' with their words - not intelligent discourse on the issues, but abusive and personal attacks. The fact that the majority of violent threats and attacks happen against liberals by conservative wingnuts destroys the troll's protest that the left wing has a wingnut contingent just as vicious - as if that is a defense. But we can lay 100% of the blame on the Teabaggers for popularizing Open Carry to terrorize their opposition. That is a clear escalation from words to actions.
Linda, misery loves company I guess, and now it has lots of company.
Kanuk, yes it is scary, but it was so enlightening. I mean where that author described shocking people once and then shocking again with the same stuff wouldn't work so it had to be escalated. That's what's happening with disastrous results. And that guy you mentioned devolved pretty quickly into chaotic thinking. But honestly, that rhetoric all seems to come back to instant gratification of one kind or another.
Hi Ardee. You are so right about the lack of articulation on the part of the right wing. I mean, what is it, it's sobbing, same old sound bites over and over, fear and hatred. It's not an attempt at all at give and take. And yes, terrorizing the opposition is key for the teabaggers, what else have they got. They should carry signs that say antidemocracy, pro-corporatocracy, that would be honest at least. Slate.com had a good article about whether this shooting was politically motivated or not (it's conclusion: yes). Very scary.
Thanks for the video. It says it all. This people like Savage (well-named) and Beck and the others are the ultimate scum of the earth. They have grown rich by promoting hatred. Disgusting and depressing.
I still haven't recovered from Bill Moyers' retirement from weekly television. His show was something I looked forward to every week - there is simply nothing else like it.
