Quick Note

I was gone at first because my 6-month-old Hewlitt-Packard motherboard went about a month ago and I bought a new rebuilt computer and am using that, and it works fine.  HP will fix my old one but it would have taken about 2 weeks during which time I would have lost my job, so for 200.00 this one is doing fine.  I bought it from the place that fixes my computer, missed 5 days of work and spent the rest of the time playing catch-up, which I did quite nicely.

Then about 2 weeks after that, my son Fayard went in for back surgery to have Harrington rods placed to straighten his scoliotic spine, and that has been rough, but he has been home for 2 weeks now and the surgery was 3 weeks ago, so his bed is in the living room, we are using a hoyer lift which was impossible at first especially with only one person using it--me, but now is much more manageable.  If we do not have a government shutdown Medicaid might be sending home health aides out to help.

My ex, the postman, has insurance that covers 2 hours of home nursing a day but after many conversations with BCBS preferred nursing providers, I find out that what I am asking for is not nursing care.  It's not medical.  It's clerical, mechanical, comical, anything but medical, so.  Anyway, people have been nice including Fayard's father, the family and everyone else.  Shriner's Hospital is a beautiful cheerful place but taking the bus there took forever because it's a huge complex up there at OHSU.  Anyway, I have missed it here, but just do not know when I'll be able to come back.  I miss everyone very much, and even with all the support in the real world, it's still kind of lonely being a caregiver.

sometimes I do not want to share stuff about it either.  I heard Truman Capote once say (on a PBS special of course) that writers didn't suffer more than the average person, they just got used to feeling it, exploring it and putting it out for others to share, and that was what made a good writer.  Honestly I cannot do that, maybe some day.  But I surely miss the people on OS who can.

I'm watching Mildred Pierce, and it's pretty good.  I love the old-timey language and feel of it, but I cannot believe I'm saying that I think Kate Winslet is a little flat in it. Melissa Leo and Mare Winingham are great, but I miss Jack Carson as the old Wally.  Guy Pearce is pretty wonderful too.

I have some experience as a caregiver, and I can tell you it's a lonely ride. But one does come out of it with some backbone.

And I hear you re sharing the pain online. I can't do it either.
And I miss the people on OS who can consistently make me laugh here at OS. My kids and I made up words to "Have Yourself a Merry Little Apocalypse." We have had many occasions to sing it lately. So M. Chariot, you are a very kindhearted wit, and I am so happy to hear from you. I thank you sincerely.
Your hands are very full. I wish you well, visit when you can.
Just come back when you can and know everyone is here for you.
I am loving Mildred Pierce too.
HUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
late, I haven't been here enough to know that you weren't here either, but I so feel for you. Caregiving is ... you described it well, and I recognize it well. Hang in there.
I'm sorry you can't manage more time here, and that there is no clerical/mechanical/comical care forthcoming. You'd better get HP to fix that computer when you get to a clearing in the woods. I have no cheerful tales for you, but most of the snow is gone here, even the snow that came down yesterday. It is now one big world of mud, or it would be if it weren't 24 degrees.
Gosh, I haven't seen Mare Winningham in forever; she used to be my under the radar favorite actress. I know that when I am called to caregive, suddenly I am the only person on the planet unless I demand help from others. take care of yourself.
I didn't know this - hugs for you Latethink. I wish I was nearby to be able to do more than send a few words of support. You are coherent, and you would be in all our thoughts and do fine. Hope people at workplace are patient with you now when you need the support. Wishing Fayard speedy recovery. Hugs again.
When I said "you are coherent" I meant, depite what shes going through she is able to think straight which is a sign of strength and she wd be fine if we pray for her. I don't pray much, not unless am real angry, but will send good thoughts your way.
Good luck to you and I"m glad you have things like "Mildred Pierce" to distract you and bring you solace.
Late- I've been thinking about you, where you've been... What trying times you're going through... sending you virtual hugs. I know that your son is in good hands, because his mother is a very kind, caring person. You were the first to answer my cry for help here on OS, and gave of your time to help me with technical issues. I won't forget your kindness. Stay well! (A good movie and Capote always helps!) :)
Sheila, thank you.

Linda, yes, Fayard is even liking MP. He has no choice. Did you know the same person who wrote MP also wrote the Postman Always Rings Twice (love John Garfield) and Double Indemnity? Anyway. An upstairs neighbor also gave me a boxed set of Jeeves and Wooster.

Thanks Ardee, it's getting better as the pain subsides. His father is taking him to have his staples removed today, so I get some time off. Good luck with the store.

Mumbletypeg--When I get to clearing in the woods, I will. We had no snow here, but are now also in a world of mud.

Deborah--MW is almost unrecognizable in Mildred Pierce. Doesn't she remind you of the old ladies you knew as a kid? She does me, with all of her gestures and tone of voice. Thanks for your support.
Hi latethink! It's nice to hear from you :)
