Canadian election isn't worth even a passing reference
Opinion polls indicate that Canada could be headed for a dramatic change in government Monday, with the 3rd party (yes they have those) taking power. Even if it doesn't come to pass, you would think the possibility ought to be at least a little interesting to the "leader of the free… Read full post »
Time to start a third-party alternative for 2012
The White House is fixated on avoiding a repeat of 1994 and will do everything it can to make sure that no health industry donors switch to the GOP in 2010.
But the White House needs reminding that the bigger threat to Obama is a repeat of 2000 with a third-party… Read full post »
Shepard Smith - Hypocrite? We report. You decide
On November 1, 2001 your friendly neighborhood F-bomber opened his Fox show with this pearl of tagline:
''Should law enforcement be allowed to do anything, even terrible things, to make suspects spill the beans? Jon DuPre reports. You decide.''
The quote comes from a New York Times report rebu… Read full post »
If you were AG, would you appoint a special counsel?
Pro:
-The OLC memos make the DOJ an investigative target, giving it a strong conflict of interest.
-The Convention Against Torture removes prosecutorial discretion and compels the investigation of all credible allegations of torture.
-The White House is attempting to obstruct justice by forbidd… Read full post »

The CIA blew KSM's interrogation
The CIA faced its greatest opportunity to redeem their reputation as a failed agency with the interrogation of the leader of the September 11 attacks.
And they blew it. They were more interested in playing Jack Bauer with a half- baked pop-psychology theory of "learned helplessness" then gettin… Read full post »
What's the point of a Special Counsel?
It is clear now that political calculations in the White House are preventing the prosecution of the Torture Statute:

Give the Medal of Freedom to Mueller
From the Ali Soufan op-ed in the New York Times yesterday:
Fortunately for me, after I objected to the enhanced techniques, the message came through from Pat D’Amuro, an F.B.I. assistant director, that “we don’t do that,” and I was pulled out of the interrogations by the F.B.… Read full post »
How do you uphold the rule of law without looking backwards?
Just wondering ...
Will Obama immunize carving genitals with a scalpel?
Far too much of the commentary on the Sunday talk shows this week made the assumption that the worst treatment of detainees was accurately described by the OLC memos. This is just not supported by independent investigations. The Taguba report, in particular, points to the central role of… Read full post »
Obama "needs to look forward" a little further
"My conscience tells me clearly and certainly that I cannot
prolong the bad dreams that continue to reopen a chapter that is
closed. My conscience tells me that only I, as President, have the
constitutional power to firmly shut and seal this book."
