Hey Boys and Girls! Let's Play Dress-Up!

Rate: 21 Flag

Yesterday, I learned of Mad Men Yourself!

Unlike Verbal Remedy's virtual clothes-tryer-onner, this one actually came up with an avatar that pretty much looks like I do in real life.  (BTW, I have this dress in my closet.)

I was 3 yo 6 years old then. My dressup play ran to the now inappropriate cowboys and indians. maybe the odd fire chief. I do recall my Dad dressing a lot like the Mad Men guys. never noticed anybody as hot as Joan or Peggy though.
With only three body types, I'm torn. I'm really not as svelte as the first choice, but neither am I as curvy as the second one!
I'm between types, too, but went curvier. I first saw this on Mary Elizabeth Williams' blog, and had fun putting myself into a picnic scene. Love your swingy ponytail, Leeandra!
Brian--Unfortunately, they don't offer cowboy OR Indian costumes, though I thought that Don Draper's kid was wearing one of those once.

Jeanette--Try both on for size!

Nora--It's the closest thing to my actual hairstyle they had. My real-world ponytail's a good deal longer, though.
And aren't you a cutie!
Back in the early 80's, you could still find a lot of those clothes at Salvation Army and Goodwill for next to nothing. Now, it seems like they've all been snapped up by "vintage" clothing shops, and they're way too expensive.

But, IMO, the early 60's era was the absolute golden age of fashion.
My favorite kilt is worm whenever I'm blogging.
The Cher wig I wear is spiked and appears orange.
A yard sale find was only .25 cents. Sophistication.
The bright hue may be radioactive. Wear to party?
I am way off-topic and might be very damn cranky!
Arthur, will you please post your dress up picture? I'm dying to see it.
I always have a hard time with these avatar makers. I guess maybe I just don't know what I look like--no idea what shape my face and eyes and nose are, for instance. So my creations never look even a little bit like me.
Here, by the way, are all the Broadsheet ladies man-womaned up:

Sadly, you can't see that I'm also HOLDING a cigarette. Because my lips get lonely.
Flamingo--Thanks!

Jeannette--I know. It's sad.

Arthur--MUST. SEE. PICS.

HellsBells--I second that.

Mabinogi--This is the first one I've found that actually works.

Deborah--Thanks!

Mary Elizabeth--Yeah, I saw that yesterday. I thought about a martini in one hand, a cigarette in the other, and a second cigarette in my mouth, but I settled for something a bit more realistic.
Did mine. too much fun...

my real hair is a little shorter...
Follow the link on my name here to catch Draper and me bending our elbows in a little Manhattan nook.

The wife and I are riveted by the superb art direction of "Mad Men" and can't wait for the new season. Oh, to be able to raid those sets!
Had a little fun with this myself! Thanks!
mabinogi, I guess I must have a hard time with them too. My husband (who reads my blog religiously) just called me up to tell me that my new avatar doesn't look anything like me! Hmph.
You make a fetching Peggy. I'd be a Peggy, too.
It's just avatar fur. Okay?
The first one I made looked nothing like me. The 2nd one is a bit frightening, although I keep thinking it looks more like my oldest sister - but then I was always told I looked like her. and being 10 years older, I remember her dressing Mad Men style when in college in the 60's!
I went for the Annette Funicello loo.
I am so sure! pffft
Stellaa, I love it! The jaunty scarf especially.
Fun! Now all we need is a pretend sex game that we can play with Don Draper.
Thanks! This was fun :)
I just landed the Trojans account. Wanna meet me at the Red Rooster Lounge on 42nd street?

Okay I tried it. I wasn't happy with the results but posted it anyway. What a scam.

This was fun. Shockingly, my avatar looks a lot like Gary Justis.
Mine was just disturbing.
OK, I'm in. Or up. However you want to put it:

My better half freaked when she saw the drawn version of me, thinking it was mighty close. So just for kicks, there's now a photo of me in near identical attire as my Mad Men 'toon rendering included below my night on the town with Dapper Don Draper.
