Lonnie helped me get this up here. It's a song I wrote many many years ago and recorded a few years ago. I'd lost the master and thought it lost for good until a very old friend found me again and sent me the file.

So I'm posting it here to preserve it, in case my stupid hard drive ever up and dies on me again.

Enjoy!
I so dig this tune, Leigh and was happy to help make it possible to bring to OS. And don't worry, even if Salon Media ever goes belly-up, the lonbud server will live on, and so will your song!
Thanks, Lonnie! Yeah, have to admit, pretty proud of this one.
Leigh, why didn't you out yourself sooner?! Are you really Joni Mitchell? Wow, this is amazing.
Sally, I used to mess around a bit, semi-professionally, but the genuine musician's life is not for me. (I was married to a serious musician for many years. It's an excrutiatingly hard gig, and seems to have the effect of burning the love of making music for the sake of making music right out of you.)

I just liked this tune, and thought I'd lost it.
Wuh? Are you serious??? You wrote this? Are you the singer as well? I'm kind of blown away here.
Yep, that's me, Lainey.
Beautiful. Thank you.
Beautiful. Sounds alot like Carly Simon. I love the lyrics.
beautiful song...i am continually blown away by the many and varied talents on display in our little corner of the cyber-world...thanks!
I am officially impressed. BIG TIME. It's a beautiful song and your voice is wonderful, you talented thing you. Are there more of these gems hiding somewhere?
Aw, you guys are making me blush! Again, thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.

And there are a few more out there, but none I like as well as this one.
I've come back to feel blown away again. There I go--I'm gone.

Do you still sound like this? Because it's totally in. I mean, I call this "coffee house angst" and it's more in now than it was whenever you did it, if it's that old. You so have a career in this if your writing goes downhill. Yeah, Stella, I can just hear "I learned the truth at seventeen, that love was meant for beauty queens..."

I sing too--not formally, but used to study voice at the Cleveland Institute of Music and was always in choirs. You have a much better sound than I do. Much more marketable. God, you could knock me over with a feather with this.
Oy, Lainey! You forget, I'm pretty far from 17. No one wants to hear a middle-aged broad. 'Cept for you kind folks, apparently.
Maybe you pull a Cyrano de Bergerac :)

(Stick your teenage daughter up front with the guitar and mic and do all the work yourself behind the curtain.) (Oh, this makes me laugh just thinking about it. I'm feeling so silly these days.)
This is really, really good -- I'm impressed.
And I'm not easily impressed.
Really beautiful. And yes people DO want to hear a "middle age broad!" Have you ever heard of Sarah Hickman? Guitarist, singer, songwriter, and beautiful soul. We try to see her every time she comes to our city.

I really love this song. I'm pasting the link into Word so I can return and hear it again later... had to listen to it very softly this time because the house is asleep!
Did you compose the music too? The guitar against the lyrics has a constant heartbeat of urgency that blends beautifully with the lyrics. And your voice? I'd pay for that, for this. Wonderful Leigh. Like Cordle, I am thoroughly impressed. Wow.
Alright you guys, I'm putting together a 12-city tour. Me and Lonnie are goin' out on the road, at your urging. Remember, when we're calling you up at 3 a.m. needing to sleep on your couch--you asked for it.

Tom, Cartouche--thanks. (I seem to be saying that a lot, but I really mean it!)
OH, and JK and annette, too. You're very sweet. ;-)
Very nice. I like your style.
I'm with m.a.h., give me more.
Thanks for sharing this. It's wonderful.
Rated.
Totally charming! Thank you.
Thanks guys. If there were more like this one, I'd post 'em. Unfortunately, the recordings that do exist were produced by my ex, who kinda totally gilded every lily I managed to compose. Not horrible--not at all--just really overdone.

But I'll mull it over.
Do you know how much I LOVE guitar? You play BEAUTIFULLY! And sing? How did I miss this??? Reminds me of Joni Mitchell - wow, this is GORGEOUS! Absolutely gorgeous!
