Musical Musings - Bohemian Rhapsody

Rate: 9 Flag

I've been listening to Queen for as long as I can remember. In fact, I was probably listening to them when I was still in the womb. They are a favorite in my family and many days of my childhood included my mom blasting their music in the car and at home. Bohemian Rhapsody is one of the most brilliant rock songs ever written. I love the operatic nature of the song, with its changing tempo and lyrics that tell a story of tragedy and regret. Freddie Mercury was an amazing artist and singer who was gone far too soon. But he left a huge musical legacy behind, a legacy which I will always cherish.

I liked this song even before Waynes World! (And who even remembers waynes world now?)

There were a lot of songs that Queen did that rocked a great deal though, and several that don't get a lot of air play anymore.

A fantastic band. Thanks for posting this.
doug - i was actually irritated for awhile by people who became fans only after seeing waynes world. queen has so many amazing songs that it's hard to pick one favorite, which is why i'll probably be posting some of their more obscure songs in later posts.
Back when Bohemian Rhapsody first came out, I didn't really care for it. I love it now, but my appreciation for the operatic wasn't developed yet.
I'd have to say my favorite Queen song is Play The Game, which was popular in the summer of 1980 - right before my senior year in high school.
I think Queen was exceptional and definately unique. Freddie Mercury had an incredible voice. I also love the changes in this song that make it a story. You can't help but sing along. I have an old cassette tape that definately needs to be replaced by a CD so I can play it. I think I even still have the first album of their's I bought!
Me too I agree with Doug..Before Wayne;s World and Adam Lambert...
I have listed to a Queen song at every hockey game my kids played in.
rated with a hug and we will rock you
I have always loved this song! And I do remember Wayne's World, Doug. I'm THAT old. lol

I'm a late convert to Queen and have adapted the theme of " I am the Champion" for the neighborhood dog race, winners circle, races are held each Sunday in Wind Meadows subdivision. I was quite the Bohemian in my day.

av - Play the Game is another great one! actually, i can't think of too many of their songs that aren't great...

leslie - i wore out several tapes. and my sister and i found this import version of greatest hits in paris that had some songs the us version didn't. so sad when that tape finally died. we still have a lot of their lps!

linda - there seems to be something in each generation that brings Queen back into the limelight. the band isn't the same without Freddie.
l - i can listen to them any time of the day:)

buffy - you are indeed the champion! our dog is a big queen fan too.
Great song and great appraisal! rated.
