Musical Musings - Love Moves in Mysterious Ways

Rate: 12 Flag

I first discovered Julia Fordham when I saw the movie, "The Butcher's Wife" back in the early 90s. Perhaps it was the hopeless romantic in me that was so drawn to this song. I waited through the credits to see who was singing this beautiful song. I then immediately went searching for it at the local music stores. Since then, I have purchased every one of her cds. She has a beautiful voice and her songs run the emotional gamut. There's heartbreak, regret, joy, love, saddness, hope. I had originally planned to write about one of my musical guilty pleasures today, but for whatever reason, I was drawn to this song.

Lord knows my own personal life has taken mysterious paths that even I didn't see until I was stumbling along them. I've had the luck and good fortune to love several people in my life. It didn't always work out, but that didn't change the fact that I loved them. We all had different paths to follow, but at those times, we were exactly where we were supposed to be. Some of us are still on that journey; others have found their home. We are richer for our experiences and for our love. Love is indeed mysterious but I think that's what makes it so wonderful.

The Butcher's Wife... sigh...must go get movie and watch this afternoon.
Julia Fordham is amazing and I am so glad you posted the song.
Rated with hugs and love of that darn movie..:)
(almost forgot to rate first!)
What a lovely tribute to love's first blush.
*sigh*
@Linda: Movie time! And it's a chick flick too! You get the popcorn. I've got my bottled water and some sodas you can choose from. ;)
Oh... kleenex. Who brings the kleenex?
I have never seen the movie or the song Thanks.
you take it as it comes and love it for as long as you can stand. and be grateful. love is good. liking is good even. :)
Wouldn't be as much fun if it wasn't mysterious. Lovely post.
Just so beautiful and I love how you think about love and timing. Made me think...
linda - i haven't seen the movie in ages, but i did enjoy it. i don't know too many people who've actually heard of Julia Fordham, so i like to "push" her music when i can.

pw - total chick flick! but i like chick flicks. i can bring kleenex and brownies.

snarky - it's a cute movie. you can check Fordham out on iTunes if you want to hear more of her. personally, i lover her
monkey - you said it!

linnnn - mystery does add to the fun, doesn't it? :)

ll2 - timing is everything, right? it does make you wonder though...
I haven't seen the movie or heard that song, but it was lovely. Her voice was huskier than I expected, which proves again, never jump to conclusions.
cranky - i think that's why i like her so much. i like a good husky voice in a woman:)
thanks for another discovery, she doesn't sing hound dog I presume

Buffy
Your words brought tears to my eyes, because I thought I was hearing an echo. Especially when you say, "We are richer for our experiences and for our love." Because even when sometimes we must endure heartache, it is the acceptance of this philosphy which brings healing.

Lovely, Lemon. Thank you. Rated. D
She does have a richly dynamic voice, her gutturals dive heart-felt, and then she soars! A treat!
Julia Fordham is one of my favorite artists! You are the FIRST person I've ever known to also know her! I'm a bit stunned here in my chair. Zowie. A guy I worked with when I lived in AZ gave me a tape of various songs of hers and I was just hooked!

I only have 4 or 5 of her CDs in my iTunes library. One of my favorite songs is "Italy."

Unfortunately, I don't like her voice "live" - I find it too far in the back of her throat which makes it too heavy for my tastes - but her voice is right in my range and I've been singing her songs since about 1994.

I sing "Love Moves in Mysterious Ways" to my daughters as their good-night song quite often; it's one of their favorites, too.

Thanks for highlighting one of my very, very favorite (and almost totally unknown) artists. You completely made my morning!!!
Oh, and one of my favorite lines is from the song "Foolish Thing":

"I almost fell in love with the man you almost are."

(I'm still freakin'-out-excited about this post!!! :-)
buffy - nope, doesn't sing hound dog.

fusuna - i think it's a good thing to remember and it does help us to heal.

yarn over - thanks for stopping by! glad you enjoyed it.

fred - her voice is wonderful and her lyrics are beautiful. thanks for reading/listening.

outside - woo hoo! another fan! i don't come across too many people who know of her either. one of my other favorites of hers is Invisible War. such a sad song, but something i think most of us can relate to. I'm glad I made your morning with this!
I've never seen it! Should I? That song is beautiful... listening to it now.
amanda - should you see the movie? some would say no. it's a bit on the cheesy side but i like a good love story now and then. i personally get tired of seeing all the angst and war, etc. that is so often the subject of movies these days. but it's not any cheesier than Twilight:)
Julia Fordham....what a trip. NO I did not see The Butcher's Wife. *Shush you!* ok, I might have been in the room for a little while while it was playing.
No, I did not sit down and ...

Grrrrrr.

Rated and sneaking out before I incriminate myself.
