YES on 1 which ironically means NO to gay marriage in Maine has won and shot down the gay marriage bill in Maine.  The Portland Press Herald news story contains this line,  "Opponents said it was important to keep the traditional definition of marriage, arguing that it is better for society and children to have a mother and a father."

In that line is the heart of the matter. I have lived long enough to know that a mother and father union can be hell for children. I successfully raised a daughter solely by myself and I know the heart of the matter does not take a man and a woman to raise a healthy, well adjusted and successful adult. The answer is love and in the absence of love in any union, the marriage is a sham no matter what sexual orientation or any other persuasion the two people are...we have become a selfish, egotistical society when we can not extend what we want for ourselves to others, and love for God, children or others has nothing to do with YES on 1.
