Women Directors Who Should Have Won Oscars
Jane Campion for The Piano, easily the worst snub for a female diector. Truly a movie with ovaries: full of passion and both romantic love and mother/daughter love. I haven't see Bright Star yet, but it sounds like another unjustly overlooked masterpiece.

I wrote this essay minutes after voting on November 4th. It feels appropriate to run it again today, on Inauguration Eve. I'll be wearing purple again tomorrow, on a day when we are neither red nor blue, black nor white but Americans, united in our hope for a better future.
