Conservatism is Stagnation and Regression

I am a wife, mother of 3, RN, and all for truth, not sound bites. I have Lupus, and several other autoimmune diseases and a stroke survivor. I am a very cheerful, optimistic and happy person, and always try to look for the best in the world! Also, I am an unapologetic liberal. Progressive ideas are what made this country and what continue to move it forward, without progress, we wither on the vine!

This post is a personal one about end of life issues. My family went through a very difficult period last year when my mostly healthy mother-in-law became catastrophically ill. She was placed on hospice and died this past January. I also read an excellent post from last year that dealsRead full post »

I am the youngest of 8 kids. I was born when Mom was 40. So I am always the kid sister. It doesn’t matter that I am an RN, BSN, starting to go for my Master’s. In my family’s eyes I am still, and will always be, the kid sister. AsRead full post »

My day started off okay. I was up, showered and dressed and had eaten breakfast. Around 8:30 that changed. I had ‘Good Morning America’ on and George was interviewing Michelle Malkin about her new book “Culture of Corruption: Obama and His Team of Tax Cheats, Crooks and Cronies&rdquRead full post »

This is what happened on my summer vacation! The last vacation I was able to go on was 5 years ago to Disney World. We traveled with friends of ours and their kids. We drove, they flew down to Orlando. In between there had been many camping trips. I do notRead full post »

My aunt called yesterday with some sad news. Bill, my cousin, had passed away. He had a massive heart attack and was unable to survive open heart surgery. He was 60. My cousin was a true warrior. He and my late brother were out and proud in the early 70s. ImagineRead full post »

Rjheart and I are having an open call.  We are asking people "What is a real woman?"  Please mark your posts open call.  We really want to hear from anyone who has ideas on this subject!  Thanks!

Please see rjheart's awesome post "If you have a vagina, or just really want… Read full post »

This is an open call that rjheart and I thought of after we exchanged messages. I had written a post last week regarding the Victoria’s Secret models vs. the Lane Bryant models. I referred to the plus-size models as real women. Actually in my rant, I was not stopping to thinkRead full post »

JUNE 17, 2010 1:58PM

A few weeks ago a big fuss was made because Lane Bryant wanted to show ads featuring plus-sized lingerie, with the plus-sized women wearing the lingerie. ABC and Fox claimed that they didn’t reject the ad because of plus-sized women, but rather that the ad was too racy for primeRead full post »

Everyday Heroes

I am convinced that there is a hero in everyone.  I am not talking Superman or Batman, but an everyday hero.  When I worked in a hospital ICU, my heroes in that department were the nurse's aide who always was pleasant and helpful and the young janitor.  These p… Read full post »

A Love Letter to Jimmy

I met Jimmy when I was 13 years old, the summer between 8th and 9th grades. A good friend of mine had moved a whole 3 miles and a world away in my 13 year old mind. Jimmy lived across the street from her. He was going into 11th grade andRead full post »

I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) last year. Lupus to lay people. I had been having many health issues for the past several years, never seeming to recover from any of my many ailments. When you tell people you have Lupus, there are usually 3 reactions-1) you don’t lookRead full post »

Many people do not even know what Lupus is, and sometimes the medical community is just as puzzled as the rest of the world. Think of it as your body being attacked from within, which is essentially what Lupus does to a person’s body.  I want to address the autoimmune conditionRead full post »

My mom was a person who cooked out of necessity, not for love of food.  She would try to be a good cook, but something in her precluded being a good cook. With eight kids and a picky husband I think she just gave up at some point.  My mom's sister… Read full post »

One of the funniest, irreverent movies ever is ‘Animal House’. Most of us recall the story of the bawdy fraternity, their questionable tactics in securing dates, and how they even embraced nerds and ‘losers’ into their fold. Juxtaposed to the Delta fraternity wasRead full post »

George Carlin was very expicit about the  7 very dirty words.  The word 'dick' was not one of them.  To the mindless idiots who equate the word 'dick' with the word '*unt', grow the hell up and then rinse your mouth out with soap.  Don't forget, Dick can also be a… Read full post »

The view that some legislators and clergy have of women is demeaning and dehumanizing. The current Oklahoma abortion restrictions are proof positive of this fact. The demeaning treatment of pregnant women in the state of Oklahoma would be laughable if it wasn’t so scary. Radical pro-lifers do not just want abortion to end, they want birth control to end. I wonder how some of the 20-30 something ambivalents about abortion feel about that. I have statedRead full post »

Brains, Boobs and Bras

It was a cruel twist of fate that I only grew to be 5’3”. Having two older sisters, I was obsessed with reading Seventeen magazine from the ripe old age of 8. I would look at the fashions and wait for that day when I could fit into the hip-hugging bellbottomsRead full post »

It is a sad commentary on our nation's state of mind when we see everyday manifestations of zero tolerance. The first prime example of this is the controversial new immigration law recently signed into law in Arizona. I have no problem with trying to stop people from illegally coming into the coRead full post »

The Army of (Limp)Dicks

For a few weeks I have been referring to the tea party people as the Army of Dicks.  That is because they were organized by Dick Armey.  Dick Armey is a former Republican House Majority Leader.  He is now the face of Freedomworks, a pseudo-grassroots organization for repealing all taxe… Read full post »

Fox News is an Oxymoron
