I never had a favorite Christmas movie until the British film "Love Actually" came along.
If you think it's another cliche, smarmy movie about filmland love I suggest you give it a chance. Yes, there are the tales of too-good-to-be-true love but there's also the bittersweetness of unrequited love, of love passed by, of love taken for granted and love not recognized until the final analysis of life.
The film features some of my favorite actors including: Emma Thompson (always love Emma), Alan Rickman (so good at being a bastard), Colin Firth (god, is he sexy), Hugh Grant (always good for a laugh), Bill Nighy (excellent as always), Laura Linney (can't say enough about Laura), Keira Knightley (not one of my favs but good in this role) and Liam Neeson (he can be my stepfather any day). Also, there is the charming Olivia Olson who sings "All I Want For Christmas Is You".
To ask me to choose one color for Christmas is asking the impossible. So, I've chosen the many colors of the rainbow.
"Love Actually" represents for me the "colors" of love with all of its aspects flowing softly and almost undetected into one another. How subtly it can change to become deeper than we could have imagined or fading beyond the horizon just like the rainbow.
You are like the colors of the rainbow to me, each different but blending into one another to create a rainbow of hope that arcs across my sky.
As my Christmas gift to you, I offer this song and hope you know it comes from my heart.

So wish we could hang out a bit. I still want to go on that walk with you.
xo
Merry Christmas!
I'm currently working on that last one, but not in a final analysis kind of way. We'll see what happens...
Love is just as you described--becoming deeper or fading away.
Thanks for such a LOVEly post, Sharon.
Merry Whatsmas!
xoxoxo,
...it does have some great actors and a bunch of great scenes, and love, love your rainbow. Thanks for sharing the love.
I sometimes don't know where I would be without OS and this post says you feel the same.
Hugs to you for the rainbows of colors and love we share.
I still remember that river flowing. I hope to get to walk with you soon.
If it represents all the colors of love for you, then so be it. Happy Rainbow-filled Holidays to you Sweet Sharon!
Merry Christmas to you and I hope you have a Happy New Year also..
Waking, I wish we could hang out a bit too. sigh....
Owl, there's different strokes for different folks so you might not like it but one thing is sure--I love, actually, having you for a friend!
Nora, thank you and hope you have the Merriest of Christmases!
C. K., I completely agree with you. When she reaches down to straighten the bed it breaks my heart....
And a Merry Whatsmas to you, Spots. I wish you the best in "seeing what happens". I hope only good!
AHP, all my best to you and Mrs. P for the holiday and always!
Frank, I have trouble saying what is my favorite anything but this one stands out to me for Christmas. I'd love to hear what your favorite chick flick is, you sensitive guy, you.
Mission, yes, I hope we get to walk together soon. The encouragement that I've received from the people here has meant and still does mean a world to me.
Does this represent all of the colors of love for me? Not in any way. I could try to describe a unique color to you but you probably would say it couldn't exist and yet it does beyond anything I can understand.
I wish you every happiness for the holiday, Dear Duane.
Eyes, Merry Christmas and I hope the New Year brings wonderful things to you.
Peace & Love for the Holidays Sharon.
Hope your holiday surpasses all your expectations!
Trilogy, like I said, it does have it's smarmy parts but if you can overlook those there are some wonderful moments in this film.
Peace and love to you!
Stevie, you're just the sweetest ever and I hope all of your Christmas wishes come true!!
Lovely post, and heck, I'd watch the movie even.
I loved this movie too, though picturing Hugh Grant as the Prime Minister was a stretch! But anything Colin Firth is in is my fave anyway and the tone of the movie is so light and not traditionally sappy that it is an excellent movie for our season.
Thank you, Trig, and I hope you and X have a great Christmas! Actually, there are a couple of characters in the movie that I think you'd really like so maybe you can sneak and watch it when nobody's around.
Ardee, Colin Firth is definitely one of my favs! I'll take "Love Actually" over "Christmas Story" any day!
Thanks for a lovely post that remembers to include all that is good about the lives we lead... Happy Whatsmas!
I know this is no "English Patient" (another of my Top 3 movies), but it offers so much!
This is one my favorite movies OF ALL TIME! It is beautiful and funny and reaches so many stories and types of love and betrayal and wistfulness!
You're right, Colin Firth is sexy in his shy, humorous, bumbling sort of way and Liam Neeson? When he bursts through those doors after his stepson's concert? He just looks so HAPPY!! I love that part!
"I don't want a lot for Christmas...I just want you for my own...more than you will ever know..." Didn't even have to click the link; I KNOW this song!
Thanks, Sharon. You made my day!!
