My Global Ignorance; Proper Use of Semi Colon

Rate: 0 Flag

Hello there. I just wrote an update blog, but then I decided I wanted to keep writing.

Recently, I've been noticing on Open Salon and other blogging websites that most of the blogs are about political or global topics. Now, I don't mean to boost a stereotype, because I'm not generalizing, but I am a teenager and I realized I am quite globally ignorant. There is a lot of buzz about Egypt right now, and as much as I pretend I know what's going on, I haven't the slightest idea. I know there's rioting; that's about it. I'm rather intelligent, and in no way purposely ignorant, I just am to certain subjects. Politics, and events in other parts of the world don't particularly interest me. It's not because I don't care, because I care very much about people getting hurt no matter where they are. That being said, I don't go out of my way to find out. I'll go out of my way to help with something I know about, but I won't search for knowledge about it.

The title of this blog may be confusing to certain people. It's basically referencing to the fact that I'm aware of things, but my mind is elsewhere. It's also slightly mocking my short attention span. I felt I needed to explain that. Moving on.

I know there are many adults on this site, and many with very strong opinions. I would assume not many bloggers are close-minded, but who knows? I would just like to share that I am not globally ignorant due to my age, which is now sixteen. I am because of my interests and my attention span. I'm basically the type who does well in school, but never actually pays attention to the lectures because her mind is off wondering what she'll have for supper next Tuesday before the dance. An example would be the events in Haiti. I was completely aware of what happened in Haiti. Once again, it was not because I spent time on Google, searching about, finding out every detail of what happened. It was because of friends, teachers, parents, television. I did my best to help. I gave all my change every day, attended benefit concerts, made cards. I love to help people, I'm just not very interested. It's not really my fault, is it? I don't mean to sound insensitive, and it probably seems that I'm rambling, but I've gotten heat for being ignorant before, and I felt people needed to know this.

All this being said, I'm probably not going to change. I'm always going to be globally ignorant, even after I take a global class next year. I'm probably still not going to go look to see what's happening in Egypt. Hell, I probably wouldn't go look out the window if a riot was happening. I'm ignorant sometimes, but who isn't? Next time you go to criticize someone, remember that just because they don't know doesn't mean they don't care.

Sincerely, and ignorantly yours,

Alexandra.
