Bio
I consider myself a generalist, a dreamer, a visionary, an idealist. I walk both worlds, the inner world of spirit and this outer world we all share in. I have real power, the power of a strong connection to the earth and the power of truth and resilience. I am committed to being effective in bringing about the changes that must take place in the minds and hearts of people so that we can live in peace and harmony with each other and all life on this planet. I grew up in the fifties in Lansing, Michigan. My father was a bricklayer, my mother a teacher. I have a strong identification with the working class and ordinary people, and was always quick to defend the underdog and play the devil's advocate. My strengths are being able to see the big picture and getting to the heart of the matter. I consider that I am a fairly good writer, having worked at this craft my entire life, but I once had a professor who said my true genius was in speaking. Along with most of the people on this planet, I am seriously concerned with the present state of affairs and lack of balance in the U.S. military dominance. I am presently teaching English in China. My profession is an ESL teacher, which I have been doing off and on for over 20 years. I have a Master's degree in TESOL from Michigan State University, a Journalism degree from San Diego State University with an emphasis in Public Relations, and a Library Media Assistant AA degree from Pasadena City College. Research is my passion and main past time, even before the advent of the Internet. I worked in the library at Michigan State University before my son was born in 1986, where I pursued research topics that I was interested in. When I was in my early twenties, I worked on a book on women's health care as part of a book team at the Feminist Women's Health Center in Los Angeles, doing research at UCLA's medical library that led to a new view of a woman's clitoris. The book is still available in print, "A New View of a Woman's Body." I am working again with a team of writers on another book with the working title of "Opening Our Hearts and Sharing Our Dreams of What May Be" to share our visions and action plans for the young people coming of age (between the ages of 16-21) and support them in carrying out what needs to be done to manifest the world that they want to have for themselves.

Celebrating Global Culture

Rate: 0 Flag

Before they fade from my awareness, while I'm still even waking up and haven't had a cup of coffee yet this morning, I want to share the wonderful visions that I had upon waking this morning.  It occurred to me that what we really need in the world today to shift our collective paradigm is to celebrate some new holidays and to get away from working so hard all of the time to make a living, to finding ways to enjoy living.

So I started thinking of...    creating global holidays that will bring in more abundance and richness in the way we lead our lives.  Here's my list of 39 planetary holidays for everyone to celebrate all over the world in a huge range of different ways, but by everyone having the day off work to celebrate:

 1)  Imagination Day

2)  Healing the Past Day

3)  Islands and Beaches Day

4)  Mountain Day

5)  River Day

6)  Flowers Day

7)  Clouds Day

8)  Insects Day

9)  Animals Day

10) Plants Day

11)  Trees Day

12)  Oceans Day

13)  Healing the Divides Day

14)  Celebrating Diversity Day

15)  Starry Night Sky Day

16)  Thanking Others Day

17)  Giving Presents Day

18)  Rock Collecting Day

19)  Treasure Day (appreciating our national and global treasures, visiting parks and museums, celebrating our heritage, treasure hunts)

20)  Planetary Unity Day

21)  Fresh Air Day

22)  Global Fair Day

23)   Birdwatching Day

24)  Global Feast Day

25)  Artists Day

26)  Musicians Day

27)  Engineers Day

28)  Women's Leadership Day

29)  Men Transitioning Day

30)  Outstanding Ability to Care for Each Other Awards Day

31)  Dreaming Night - everyone consciously dreams, we dream of those who have died, we dream of bringing gifts to others, we dream deep, rich dreams of ceremonies in the night, we dream of communicating with other life in the universe, we dreamweave songs and music together... and in the morning we share our dreams

32)  Remembering Our Ancestors Day  we give honor to our ancestors and we give thanks for all of the ancestors who have given their lives all over the world who have come before us

33)  Celebrating Life Holiday - on this day we celebrate our lives and do what we love best, we celebrate with family and friends, music, art, feasts, dancing, displays

34)  Fire Day - dazzling displays of fire, fire walkers, fireworks, beach fires, a day to worship the power and glory of fire

35)  Water Day - we take to the water all over the world, to the rivers, lakes, and oceans, we play in fountains and watch water shows of light, we drink water all day, nothing but water, and we have water tasting contests to find the purest, cleanest, most wonderful tasting water, we honor the water and how it sustains our lives, and everyone takes a bath or shower on this day

36)  Friends Day - we spend the day with friends and we call our friends in distant places, we take photos with our friends

37)  Family Day, Children's Day, Women's Day, Men's Day, Elders Day - everyone gets to celebrate in one way or another of honoring each other or even all of these days rolled into one

38)  Communities Day - we celebrate our community life by having feasts and fairs with people in our community.  Each community celebrates in their own way, but nobody is forgotten.  Everyone is invited to the party so that they can take part in one way or another.  And on this day we make commitments to make our community stronger and better.

39)  Fertility Rites Day - we honor our fertility on this day in whatever way we choose, but it is especially a day to honor women who are pregnant and for single people to gather who are looking for mates and for fertility rites to be carried out for those who want to conceive a child.  This is also to celebrate the fertility of the land and the seas and animals and trees.

This whole train of thought started because I had a dream just before I woke up of a young man knocking at my door.  When I opened it he was standing there drenched in light so that at first I could hardly see him.  He had black spiky hair that looked dyed, and I didn't know him. I couldn't even tell what nationality he was.  But he was carrying two beautiful plants as gifts for me.  One he was holding high above his head and the other he was carrying in his other hand.  And he said thank you twice in this soft beautiful voice full of true gratitude.

Then I started to have visions of beautiful places and ceremonies.  I saw myself swimming in a forest pool and a circle of women gathering waist deep in the water with candles floating on large leaves.   I saw a sunrise on snow high in the Himalayas.  I saw a flock of large birds rising into the sky in Africa.  I saw myself happily playing in the waves on a beach with friends and sunlight glittering on the waves.  I saw myself drumming and dancing in a circle of drummers and dancers and singers.

I'll come back and add more details to the global holidays I've imagined.  I give thanks to the powers of the universe for the vivid imagination I've been given.
