Bio
Born and raised in suburban Chicago to a multi-cultural family of hardworking, working class people, I was given every available tool to make me a contributing member of society -- Catholic school, Girl Scouts, lessons in several of the arts, even a debutante bow at the ball. I wasn't having any of it. Oh, I DID it all, but always with a flair that was not appreciated by those who attempted to guide me. Although I managed to have a fairly successful corporate career, it would have been so much more so, had I just followed the prescribed rules of the road to the top. Wouldn't do that either.

He's Gone

Rate: 5 Flag

My first cousin, my favorite, whom I wrote about in http://open.salon.com/content.php?cid=535390 on March 23, 2010, died yesterday.  This is for Butch, who fought a hard fight and is now pain free and at rest:

TRIBUTE

I was ten when you were born,

the little brother I didn't have.

Sweet, cute, quiet and smart,

the orchard of the family's eyes.

Football hero, leading man

Model husband and dad to one.

Sportsman, horseman, gambler,

parole officer, mentor to criminals.

Your bucket list completed,

Your Corvette in the driveway,

I took your last breath with you.

If there is a heaven, you are there.

'Bye cuz.  Tell the others we miss them, too.

My condolences, Lezlie. I thought I'd be reading about your ex's funeral, not your beloved cousin's. I'm so sorry.
Thank you, my friend. I will still post the conclusion of my ex's saga some time this evening.
Lezlie
nicely done- liked that "last breath with you"

i was thinking that an OS Open Call could be one where we write our own obituaries
i am sorry to hear that. he will be good in the heaven
dianaani: Thanks. That would be a very interesting Open Call. Try it.
Lezlie

I did, here it is. (and I linked it back to here as part of my inspiration)
I kinda think he'd like this. Unsentimental, lively. Sounds like a guy who enjoyed the time he had. Well done.
Thoth and jimmymac1025, your messages mean so much to me. Thank you.

L.
