I'll admit, I joined Open Salon for the purpose of reading, commenting, and rating other people's blogs.
That said, I think a blog with no posts is just sad. Not pathetic sad, just depressing sad. To avoid making a sad face every time I see my own page, I shall brave the awkwardness of first impressions and introduce myself.
So here goes... Hi! I'm Lissa. Lissa is a nickname that I go by online, in games, etc. My real name is Louise, and I answer to that or Lissa, Liss, Lulu, Weezy, Weezer... you get the point. The only thing I refuse to answer to is Louisiana. Please note, that's not because of the state, because I love Louisiana (especially New Orleans!) but because of an unfortunate run-in with a bully in elementary school that I will spare you the details of.
I go to Columbia University in the City of New York (that's the full-blown, pretentious title), and I love it. I live and breathe this city and this school. I'm in the marching band, which I'll probably talk about at great length, as it is a large part of my life. I currently play the bass drum in a mostly-female drumline, although I can twirl (a rifle, a flag, or just about anything, once you get the basics it's not too hard), as I was on drill team in high school.
When I'm not at band or working (something else that I'll spare the details of), I make jewelry and art, some of which I sell online. I have two Etsy.com stores, which I'm sure I'll link to at some point in a fit of self-promotion.
I also play video games, mainly with my significant other, Sam. He's shy, so I won't mention him too much. That probably won't hold true for long (the part about me not mentioning him, that is), but that's okay.
Long story short... scratch that, long story long, that's me!

I promise I won't call you Louisiana - that seems rather elementary school, as you point out.
thanks for introducing yourself. I'll look forward to more posts and getting to know you & Sam.
Welcome to OS! I agree that comment-less posts feel sad, but it can't be helped around here; the competition is stiff! There is excellent writing and conversation as you well know if you've been hovering at all. Anyway, I look forward to getting to know you. I know one boy at Columbia but it's way too sophomoric to think you might know him. OK, since you're dying to know, his name is Dennis Martin, and he's from Cleveland. Ring any bells?
Lainey- I'm okay with lack of comments, it's lack of posts that saddens me. Everyone has something to contribute! But thank you for helping to make my post non-commentless. And I don't know Dennis. Although the "stalk" option of the Columbia website tells me he's not in my department (=
I should explain our relationship right up front. That significant other she refers to is my son, Sam. Lissa is the beautiful Louise that I mention in my post on the Mississippi State Fair.
Do write more and let these wonderful people on OS hear your voice and your thoughts. I think a few band photos would be nice :) And I will refrain from asking if your blogging is interfering with your schoolwork. I promise!
Hugs and kisses to you and Sam!
For a small monthly fee, Lissa will thumb your posts, too! Sheesh, that's actually a great idea. Why didn't I think of that before. Screw tippem--we should create "rate 'em." You pay, we rate!
Warnings about OS, Lissa. It will log you out an inopportune moments and your efforts to prevent that will be for nought. Save often if you are composing anything. Comments should be copied before hitting "post this comment," lest you get the dreaded "please log in" and lose what you wrote. Not that I always remember this advice myself.
On a random but OS-related note, I got an email today saying I had multiple messages from a user called "Favorbaby", but now my inbox is empty and that user doesn't seem to exist. Weird.
And yes, I have had problems with being logged out when I was writing a comment. And it makes me grumpus and cursativory. Or something like that ;)
