Zorba the Greek - Yolngu Style

Rate: 25 Flag

This rendition of Zorba the Greek by a troupe of young Aboriginal dancers in the Outback brings a smile to my face.  I hope it does for you too.

The group call themselves 'The Chooky Dancers'.  They come from Yolngu people in north eastern Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory of Australia.

ARE YOU SMILING NOW?

I HOPE SO!

LOVE AND BEST WISHES EVERYONE.

This was great Kate!
I love things like this and we do not see much of it.
Cheers to you and rated with hugs
Will have to watch when I get home from work, but I'm sure it will bring a smile to my face - as you always do, Kate.
Certainly made me smile - thank you dear Kate. I'd never seen this type of dance style before. ~R
This is the best!!! Loved it and will watch again and again! Hard to take your eyes off the tall, chalky skinny dude in the center! He's sure got the moves! Thanks for the huge smile you put on my face this afternoon!
Just Cathy: The tall, chalky skinny dude in the center actually choreographed the routine. He's wonderful, isn't he!
Cheers to this, and let's do away with the doom and gloom. R+
Ha..how crazy is ths!!?
Gee...we needed that! Thanks, Kate- R for "rehabilitating"
They definitely put the right guy in the middle!
That was freakishly entertaining! I love it!!
That was the best thing I've seen all day. Great Video, these guys were great!
Blessings on all who can think of smiles at times like this.
Amazing... I think next they should do the Macarena...
Ah! You all seem to be enjoying this one!

If it brought a smile to your day, then I am so very glad. : )

These young people are very traditional Australian Aboriginal dancers performing very much outside of their traditional realm. A real delight and a joy to see!
Wow !!! It is almost as if you live on the other side of the world from me or something!!!
Oh wait.......

JD: Yes I'm on the other side of the world but this is something most Aussies wouldn't see every day either! Got to go Outback for this .... way, way out back!!!!
I found myself only watching the tall guy up front. He has such a unique and entertaining way of dancing!
heidibeth: He's good, isn't he? He apparently pulled the group together and choreographed the routine.
Oh my! I was laughing so hard my hubby came in from the other room. :)
Sparking: Spreading a little joy ... way to go! Now I'm smiling again! THANKS!
Awesome! I think the guy in blue shorts in front is the Diana Ross of this group: He's a headliner!
My cat thinks I've flipped.
Yeah, I love it. And yes, I'm totally smiling now.
Great stuff Lil Kate !

Our OS friends might not know that a "chook" in Australia is a chicken - I saw the chicken moves there ! Those guys are good.
Grinning ear to ear, har-de-har-har-ed, and so on. Wonderful! I used to do a thing with my students about the Gagadju aborigines--it's been so long I can't remember much about it, but man, they were a fascinating group--that sadly seemed to be on the verge of dying out as the young folk left. Their language was definitely on its last legs about 10 or 15 years ago. Thanks for this. Just amazing.
Thank you all for stopping by. And I hope you all left with a smile!

Kim: Yes, I should have thought to mention about the chook! Thank you for letting our friends know!

The Good Daughter: As I understand it, the Gagadju of northern Australia have the longest unbroken culture in human history. Passing along their traditions for something like 40,000 years.
Thanks for the smile.
YEEHAAAAAA!!!!!
LOL

Kate,
Yes, smiles are here. Loved it.
That dancer in the center pulled me right in.
Thanks!
pastvoices: My pleasure!

Poor Woman: Now that makes it even richer! Country and Western meets Native Australian meets Greece!

timsored: Makes me smile that it put a smile on your face too!
