Twilight and Discovery

Rate: 26 Flag

Australian Sunset

Like the falling twilight
Love of life fades
And darkness becomes my companion
All within me near withers
Yet the circle of life, of living
Brings the promise of a new day
A reawakening to light
Where happiness and love are found once more
Such is the magic and beauty of life
Twilight and discovery … hand in hand

Dedicated to those who have lost so much in the floods in Australia

Little Kate I'm applauding this! It's way too early in the morning here. This made me glad to be up. That's how powerful poetry can be when it's good. And the fact that the technology lets us pair that poem with that picture actually makes me like the technology --at least for right this minute.
Always. Always you are able to find beauty and magic. Am lifted by your words and thoughts and the sunset here. Hope calm walks with you tonight and that rest will wrap you in healing peace.
Endings and renewings - the cycle of life, and of joy!
Chicago Guy: Oh now I'm embarrassed! You read my comment about applauding poets! But thank you ... honestly ... thank you so very much!

Blinddream: Thank you too! It's lovely to meet you.
The beauty of this poem stands on its own, but it gains added resonance in the context of what Queensland is going through.

"Such is the magic and beauty of" your poetry.
anna1: And always you make my heart sing with sheer delight and a joy of peace with your kind and thoughtful words. Thank you my friend.

skypixe0: What a dull life it would be if life wasn't full of learning and discovery ... of change ... of renewal. Thank you for reading!
Pilgrim: Your words touch my heart and give me pause to reflect on how very lucky I am that my family has been spared the tragedy that many have suffered in recent days. Thank you, dear Pilgrim.
this poem offers hope while showing the depth of spirit. yes to the magic and beauty of life. yes to well crafted verse.
Chuck: Such kind words. Thank you. So very much appreciated.
Kate from the recent series of posts you have written here, I feel like my hand has been holding yours....... I got tears streaming here this poem has touched me so deeply.
TY!!
Beautiful and sad. Somehow hopeful as well. Thank you...I've heard the drumbeat in the back of my mind on the disaster in Queensland.
Mission, my friend ... your hand HAS been holding mine. Thank you.
Linnnn, I'm glad you see the hope within it ... I like to think there is always hope. Thank you for reading and your thoughts for those having gone through so much in Queensland are so very much appreciated.
Wonderful, insightful poem. The wisdom found in endings and beginnings...the eternal promise of hope.
So lovely and welcome. My thoughts and prayers are with the folks down under.

… hand in hand~
companionship saves the day, and the twilight, every time.
thinking of you Aussies. Thanks, little kate.
This poem is love in its purest. Finding light in the darkness, discovery and hope in the worst of times. A true gift to all those who have suffered in this tragedy and in this life.

Oh Kate..
This is so wonderful and I wish I could be there and give you a personal hug. I feel like I have known you forever.

Lovely and true. I salute you all.
Little Kate, we share disasters half way around the world, different kinds, in desert oases. A flood of anger, a flood of water, many things wiped away. A love of life must be challenged, after all, to see its strength. You have expressed that beautifully. My sympathies to your friends and family, I can only imagine how horrible it is to actually have your life possessions washed away.
And darkness becomes my companion
All within me near withers

I am so sorry for all their misery. And have you see the news about Brazil? Yikes. Beautiful poem. Like can be so awful, and then wham, something happens and the heart turns. Very hopeful. Keep dry and safe. Your family is fine?
So beautiful, I can't even imagine the loss, and love that you find hope in the new morning daylight.
A beautiful sentiment, Little Kate. "The promise of a new day," a "reawakening"--exactly so. I like Lawrence Ferlinghetti's line: every day should be "a renaissance of wonder." Once that's gone, once hope take flight, well, probably should start looking around for the nearest millstone.
And we are all holding hands here with you Kate. " the promise of a new day" there is always that promise. You express this so very, very well.
Just Cathy: I wrote recently of hope ...

Be hope.
Desire and faith
In concert. Together
As one sweet, melodious voice.
Believe.

I believe.
Grand words of love for those who suffer.

Poor Woman: Thank you dear friend. Much appreciated.

catch-22: Thank you for kind words and thoughts of Aussies. You're wonderful!

RomanticPoetess: Thank you for seeing all of this. Your words touch my heart too.

Linda: Hi there friend! I feel much the same way! And that hug ... I'm feeling that right now too! Thank you!!!
Sheila: You bring me a smile when I see that you've dropped by to read. Thank you!

Oryoki Bowl: Everything washed away and replaced with mud ... thick, dirty mud ... everywhere! I am very grateful that you hold all those affected in your heart and mind. Thank you.

xenon-lit: Thank you so much.
Janice: Yes, I saw a few days back about Brazil too and so many lives lost there in mudslides. Our southern state of Victoria is now also undergoing flooding and evacuations in a number of towns too. It seems never-ending at the moment but, yes, there is faith and hope and love and kindness in the hearts of so many that will help to pull so many through.

h-Julie: Thank you friend. Much appreciated. I owe you some reading soon too!

Lunchlady: The spirit of love and care and kindness that is on display in Queensland at the moment is so very, very moving.
Jerry: Oh, that IS lovely ... every day should be a "renaissance of wonder". I agree with you about hope ... if it takes flight then we give up and that never resolves anything. Hope is so very important in order to move forward.

trilogy: Holding hands. I knew you were and I've been holding tight, not so much for me but for all of those poor souls that have lost loved ones and their homes ... they've lost nearly everything ... except I think hope, love and the well wishes of so many.

Scylla: I can't tell you how much the suffering of these poor people have touched my heart. Thank you for your kind words.
I, too, feel as though I have been holding your hand.

And darkness becomes my companion
All within me near withers

These two lines spoke to where my heart is today. I am not ready to write about it yet. However, the promise f hope remains in your poem and in my heart. The strength abiding in Queensland throughout this tragedy pales my personal trauma.
pastvoices: As I have indeed felt you holding my hand these past few days, let me now hold yours. A good friend of mine, has told me before that your pain is your pain. It does not matter that just because you perceive your pain unworthy in the light of what others might be feeling, it is still your pain. It is very real for you. So when you are ready, I am here for you. I do not judge your pain to that of another's. Your pain is real and I am here for you.
So beautiful. So happy you and yours are doing well.r
I haven't been around very much lately, but am trying to get back into the swing of things concerning OpenSalon. This poem is beautiful....a perfect reintroduction to OpenSalon!
hugs, me: Thank you. Yes, all well!

patricia k: Hi! It's so good to see you back! I hope you're well. Thank you for such kind words too!
Kate, this is just beautiful The promise of a new day.
Fay, Thank you. I'm happy that you liked it. Cheers!
Inspirational and full of hope. Your words make me smile with comfort. Rated.
Michelle: What lovely words! And, that I bring a smile to your face makes me smile with thanks to you for saying so.
"A reawakening to light..." I like that. In a sense, all survivors are sojourners, seeking to reawaken the light.
Rei Momo: Thank you. A slight temptation was there to write "awakening to the light" but "reawakening" is correct. I appreciate you reading and commenting.
You inspire such feeling here!
So well done!
JD: Thank you! I appreciate that so very much.
