'Tis the eyes of the lobster

Rate: 25 Flag

‘Tis the eyes of the Lobster: all beady and black
Little black pearls; but luster they lack
They stare and stare with nary a blink.
And heavens to Betsy if you know what they think!
With pinchers and crushers and blood of blue
I’m not so sure I’d want one in my stew!
The new year dawns and here am I
Writing of lobsters and I’m not sure why!
Oh, but I jest and of course I do!
‘Twas a bet! I lost! And now pay my due.
Sincere apologies to those who read.
I know it’s rough. I must complete this deed.
I hope this ditty; whatever it be
Fits the bill and you’re more than pleased, --!*

My sincerest apologies must go to Lewis Carroll who wrote 'Tis the Voice of the Lobster'.

* You know who you are!
And *, please note I did include lobster eyes!!! : )
I cannot eat that or shrimp.. I swear I see their eyes..:) Happy New Year kate.
HUGGGGGGGGGG
Linda, I know what you mean. I'm not a great seafood lover I must admit but I can manage to peel a few prawns and enjoy them. I prefer them all shelled and de-veined and prepared in a restaurant for sure! (Oh! And, yes, we call them prawns here .... not shrimp!!)
I love the last line, Kate. How many of us haven't been stuck on just how to conclude another of our masterpieces? Sometimes all I can do is abandon it and call it done whether it knows it's done or not.
John, thank you so much! I know EXACTLY where you're coming from! But, on this occasion, I did it on purpose ... a little bit of a puzzle in a way. You see the name of the person fits in that line but I left it out ... if he/she wants me to put it in ... I will ... but I was also endeavouring to follow in the vein of Lewis Carroll who wrote, 'Tis the Voice of the Lobster' and left the last line hanging.
JT or DB, or
whoever it be,
you inspired, thank you.
It isn't every day we get a poem about a lobster fondue ;-)
JT ?
I meant JD !
( was I right ? )
Kim, yep, not every day! And I hope not to have to write of lobsters again! Too tough!

Your guesses on who fit the rhyme for sure but, no,
I'm not telling who
unless they want me too!
I saw a special on TV years ago about lobsters, how a school of them crawls along the bottom of the sea, each one touching the tail of the one in front, like a sentient train. Nice ditty, Kate.
Awww. Matt, that is interesting. Really. It kind of makes them seem much 'cuter' to me in a way.
i'll take the one you don't want in your stew, kate, especially if i can find someone to dispatch the critter for me. lovely poem, made me smile. do they really have blue blood? wait. do i want to know the answer? mmmm. no. :)
Candace, I'm happy to have made you smile ... and here I am smiling too because you were smiling! Yay! And if you don't want to know for real about the colour of their blood then I won't say any more. : )

Happy New Year, Candace!
Wonderful. If lobsters don't want me to eat them they would do well to not taste so good. Prawns included.
Very nice for a new day and year.
Rated.
Why am I melting butter now?
xo
Scylla, I can imagine both lobsters and prawns being in abundant supply in your part of the world. We had prawns on Christmas Day. Being summer here they grace many a table on Christmas Day and all during the holiday season here.

Happy New Year again, Scylla!
The Good Daughter, I don't know! Why? : )

LOL! Enjoy!!!
Lobster, huh? Mysterious!
Kim ... Mysterious???
Ah, you can make poetry out of anything. Must have been a JD challenge?
Ah, but I'm not telling! Thanks, tril!
This is so silly and fun, thanks fortune smiles.
Thanks FOR THE smiles
Dianaani, smiles are good! Very good! It's what I was hoping for!
I saw a live abalone the other day at the nature museum. Also black eyes and not much going on in the attic. I would eat either one, in a stew, or on a bun. I would eat them day or night, I would eat them, bite for bite.
OB, you like seafood, huh?!!
Very nice. Well done. Now, where's my cooked lobster? ;)
Welcome, Smalltownwriter! One on its way to you wrapped in all the best wishes of the new year!
You know, it's not clear, precisely what bet you lost... did you have to eat the lobster eyes?
DB, The bet not important. The thing is I lost and had to write about darn lobsters! Including its eyes was an extra challenge!
Whatever the bill was, your *ditty* more than fits it and then some, dear Katie.

R♥
Fusun, Thank you...I sure hope it does! You know...I'm lounging beside my pool right now and if I stay here much longer I'm going to start looking like a lobster myself!
A Lobster's blood, is it red or blue?
Is something I'll answer, tis blue it is true.
And as for the payment off a very fun bet,
consider it paid,...you're now out of debt!!!

Well done as always, Katie! You are truly a master IRON POET!!!

J D
(as for the bet,....hummmm...it was about a different type of creature)
BUT I THINK IT IS ABOUT TIME FOR THE ULTIMATE IRON POET CHALLENGE TO ALL OUR OS FRIENDS!!!!!!
YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN...RIGHT????
A lobster's blood is blue!
And I love your response to be true!

And yes a different type of creature was the centre of the bet.
The ULTIMATE IRON POET CHALLENGE!

I think I know what you mean! But OVER TO YOU!!!
No no...we will announce this together in a couple or three days!!!!
Maybe a joint blog just this one time for this one reason?
Kim, Tril ... yep! you were right ... it was JD!

So the last lines should read...

I hope this ditty; whatever it be
Fits the bill and you’re more than pleased, JD!
Now thats a crustacean poem if I ever read one. HNY 2 U and yours!
Kate and JD,
If a lobster's blood is blue, does that make it royalty? :o)
I love lobsters and have to turn away when I see them in the grocery store tanks. I don't want to know what they think. Now you've got me all sad, thinking about lobsters! You may have lost a bet, but you've got a winner in this poem.
Algis, I'm glad you liked it! Happy New Year to you too! Thank you for the joy of your photos throughout the year.
Fusun, I don't know! Perhaps they are! : )
Gee, Margaret, I didn't want to make anyone sad ... but rather a smile or two was what I was hoping for. Thanks for the vote on the poem though!
I am glad you lost the bet. You brought a smile to my face.
WONDERFUL!!!

Thanks for stopping by, Rennis.
nightmares for days now...beady...little...dead...eyes...all in a stew!
Your cute poem reminds me that ever since I've seen lobsters marching underwater at night in Belize with their claws held high, I've had trouble eating them. I'm told they are intelligent creatures (as are octopi). I wish that they would be killed humanely rather than boiled to death. Restaurants should be held to that.
JR, Smiling I am indeed on reading your little ditty and your lovely thoughts. Thank you, good friend ... THANK YOU! And the HAPPIEST OF YEARS TO YOU!!! : )

Oh, Cathy, I am sorry for those nightmares! Truly I am! ; ) Does it help if I wish you a VERY, VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR!?!

Lea, that would have been a lovely thing to see ... lobsters all marching in a row. I imagine them all proud and regal-like! Thank you for coming by and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
mypsyche: Me too! :)
I love lobster, when I am on the coast here that faces east
I stuff myself with this wonderful feast.
Sounds like you got another challenge down cold.
rated with love
Poor little lobster! Rated for compassion for the mollusk.
