WALKING WOUNDED:
West Coast will welcome back Luke Shuey from suspension but will have to do without defender Beau Waters, who copped a one-match ban for rough conduct against Brisbane. Ashley Smith should finally be available after struggling with a niggling ankle injury for several weeks and Sam Butler (hamstring) will also be in contention. Josh Kennedy, Andrew Embley and Mark Nicoski are all still several weeks away, while Mark LeCras (knee) is out for the season.

The Blues are still dealing with a crippling injury list, with the likes of Marc Muprhy, Jeremy Laidler and Jarrad Waite still on the sidelines. But Jordan Russell (hamstring), Bret Thornton (gluteal strain), Heath Scotland (calf) and Andrew Carrazzo (shoulder) could be available this week. Carlton were dealt a fresh blow with news defender Simon White is out for seven weeks after having complications with his LARS surgery.

West Coast did not lose to a team outside the top eight in 2011 and their only defeat this year had come against Essendon until they were stunned by Brisbane. They were due for a bad loss but they will still be desperate to bounce back after having the bye to think about an uninspiring effort.

The Blues were better against Geelong than they were in their other recent defeats, the most embarrassing of which came a week earlier against Port Adelaide. But the fact remains Carlton have slipped from second to ninth in little more than a month and urgently need to turn things around to rescue any hopes of a top four finish.

WHO’S HOT:
Chris Masten – The 23-year-old was an Eagles whipping boy for most of his first four seasons in the AFL. But Masten is now showing the talent that saw West Coast take him with pick three in the 2007 draft. He battled injury and form issues to play just 13 games last year but has cemented himself as a vital cog in the midfield playing all 10 games in 2012.

Eddie Betts – The pace and silky skill of Carlton’s small forwards caused major issues for Geelong and Betts was at the forefront, kicking four goals. Betts’ 26 majors this season put him sixth on the Coleman Medal leaderboard while he’s also 10th in goal assists.
