Iron Pundit vs Iron Stomach: Extra Special Election Edition

Rate: 27 Flag

Obama makes phone calls at the 11th hour

Wow.  It’s finally here, isn’t it?  The big day.  Election ’08.

You know the drill by now – I will test my liveblogging pundit skills against the craziness of election eve and see if I can retain my Iron Stomach.  Tonight the Iron Stomach is filled with shrimp Singapore noodle courtesy of the greatest grocery store in the world – Wegman’s.  I worship at the altar of Wegman’s.

The Iron Pundit voted this morning at her local precinct in Northern Virginia at around 11:00 a.m.  They were running several lines of voters, grouped by last name.  My particular line had one person in it.  The others had dozens.  My husband reported that this morning, the line was stretching out the building and around the building.  Tonight, he voted with no line.  This, I should note, is par for the course in Fairfax County.  My experience as a pollwatcher in the past is that Fairfax County tends to vote in the morning, and the polls are all but empty at the end of the day.

Tonight, we will be watching CNN.  As much as I love Keith, Rachel and of course David Gregory, if I have to spend the night listening to Pat Buchannan, I know that my Iron Stomach will give out too early.

So without further ado….on with the show!

7:34 p.m. -- first off everyone, do NOT panic that Virginia is showing McCain with a lead.  Two years ago, when Webb was running for the Senate, they looked exactly the same. Webb won.  Northern Virginia's precincts take much longer to close because the procedures are more detailed and you are dealing with way more voters.  So you will not see Fairfax County reporting until close to 9 p.m.  The race cannot be called in Virginia until Fairfax County reports.

7:40 p.m. -- quick jump to MSNBC  shows Georgia "Too Early" to call and Indiana "Too Close".   Georgia is expected to go to McCain.  But if it were to be close, that owuld be good for Obama.  So far everyone has the count at Obama 3 (VT) and McCain 8 (KY).  I don't know what the hell the guy talking is blathering about.

7:45 p.m. -- McCain is talking to reporters on the plane, Cindy by his side looking somewhat ill and constipated.

7:46 p.m. -- McCain takes SC...bringing McCain's tally to 16 votes.  And apparently the AP exit polls are indicating rampant ticket splitting.

7:49 p.m. -- David Gergen and the other pundits at CNN are talking about exit polls vs. voting numbers.  I think the pletora of pundits at CNN are going to make me too jangly to watch. (Plethora?  Murder?  Herd?  Actually, my personal fave is a "Blovation" -- as in "a blovation of pundits are on CNN"....)

7:57 p.m. -- CNN finally calls SC for McCain, a full 11 minutes after MSNBC.

7:58 p.m. -- Jeffrey Toobin explains how it is that he can call SC for McCain despite the fact that the real votes have Obama ahead.

8:01 p.m. -- John McCain gets OK and TN.  Obama gets DE, MD, DC, CT, NJ, IL and at least 3 of Maine's 4 votes.  The count, according to CNN, is Obama 77 and McCain 34.  And that stupid ping they do when they call the states is going to really piss me off by 9 p.m.

8:04 p.m. -- Switching to MSNBC.  For the record, I do not see a Rolling Rock next to Tom Brokaw.  He must be hiding it.

8:05 p.m. -- They have called PA for Obama.

8:06 p.m. -- Apparently NBC's exit polls are actually strong for Obama.  Brokaw has promised "something special" for commemorating Tim Russert.  And I really, really hate the MSNBC set.

8:10 p.m. -- in honor of PA, i have hubby fetch me a Yuengling.

8:11 p.m. -- CNN still has not called PA.  I am hoping that MSNBC didn't prematurely call the state for Obama.

8:12 p.m. -- CNN just got finished showing the rally in Grant Park.  Crowds of crazy people.  Now they are at John McCain's ballroom in Arizona.  Very quiet...choral music.  Kinda like a funeral.

8:14 p.m. -- Obama ahead in OH, WV, NH.  McCain ahead in Georgia.

8:17 p.m.  -- Ronnie Musgrove's race is too close to call.  He's a democrat running in MISSISSIPPI.  Freaking MISSISSIPPI people.

8:23 p.m. -- With PA off the table for McCain, the road for Obama gets a lot easier.  He can now afford to lose pretty much all the rest of the toss ups, so long as he does not lose any of the solid or leaning states.

8:28 p.m. -- In honor of our own Kent Pitman, I must now comment on the Jessica Yellin hologram on the MSNBC set.  This is the bigest CGI travesty since the Eric Bana version of the Hulk.

8:30 p.m. -- CNN calls New Hampshire for Obama.

8:35 p.m. -- MSNBC calls Georgia for McCain.

8:39 p.m. -- MSNBC is reporting over 70,000 people with tickets in Grant park.  Trust me, downtown Chicago tonight is a madhouse.

8:43 p.m. -- okay, so because I was watching CNN I was totally behind on the Kay Hagen thing.  I will be staying on MSNBC now, braving the bad set and CGI tomfoolery.  And I like that they show the count through most of the commercials.

8:51 p.m. -- They keep interviewing David Axelrod, and I think he may be running out of ways to say the same thing -- "we're going to WIN! Nyah nyah!

8:53 p.m. -- MSNBC is inerviewing Tom DeLay.  I can't get to the clicker fast enough.  I switch to CNN just in time to see them call the NC senate seat for Kay Hagen.

9:00 P.m. -- more poll closings.  Something is still the matter with Kansas, but NY goes Obama.  Michigan too. Minnesota as well (good job Turtle!), and Wisconsin and Rhode Island.  North Dakota to McCain, as well as Wyoming. And ARIZONA IS TOO CLOSE TO CALL!

9:03 p.m. -- North Carolina is looking good, so is Florida.  McCain's lead is dwindling.  With about a 65,000 vote lead, and with NoVa still to report, we're looking good.

9:06 p.m. -- Chuck Todd is breaking it all down in NC.

9:09 p.m. -- I think Chuck Todd is wrong about Virginia.  I think it is going to go to Obama.

9:11 p.m. -- I've been drilling down into the county numbers on Virginia from CNN.  Only 23% of Fairfax County is in, only 20% of Falls Church, only 10% of Arlington County.  There are more than enough votes there to make up the gap between Obama and McCain.

9:14 p.m.  -- Hubby plies me with chocolate.  Good hubby.

9:22 p.m. -- I am SO OVER this "flipping a red state" rhetoric.  McCain's lead is less than 25,000 votes in Virginia, and OHIO IS FOR OBAMA!

9:24 p.m. -- The total count for electoral votes is Obama 195 to McCain's 76.

9:28 p.m. -- More drill down on VA:  Loudon and Prince William counties, which are the exurb counties just outside the beltway, are currently at about 32% of precincts reported, and OBAMA IS LEADING in both counties.  That is big.  Loudon and Prince William were reliably GOP last time.

9:31 p.m. -- should also point out that Loudon is one of the fastest growing counties in VA.  HUGE development out there in the last four years.  That bodes well for Obama.

9:32 p.m. -- New Mexico for Obama!

9:38 p.m. -- West Virginia goes to McCain.  If we had won there, it would have been unbelievable.

9:41 p.m. -- I field a worried phone call from my high school chum in New York.  Yes, my dear, Virginia WILL go blue.   I will call it before anyone else.  You heard it first on OPEN SALON!

9:43 p.m. -- Let me explain why i think VA goes blue....There are still a lot of votes outstanding in Prince William County.  Stafford County's initial returns have just started coming in and they are very, very close.  Closer than they should be if McCain wants to win in VA.

9:48 p.m. -- CNN looks at the popular vote....Obama is only 320,000 or so votes ahead.

9:49 p.m. -- CNN is pretty much presuming an Obama win at this point.

9:52 p.m. -- Bill Bennett is talking about how "lucky" Obama is to be doing so well.  I may lose it here people.  Must get some reinforcements -- Doritos.

9:57 p.m. -- Dammit.  We are out of Doritos.

10:00 p.m. -- Iowa to Obama. UT to McCain.  Obama 207 to McCain's 129.  MT is too close to call.  NV is too early, but Obama leads.  Lead for Obama in FL extends.

10:03 p.m. -- McCain's lead in Indiana is only 9,000 votes.  Good god, who'd have thunk it?

10:06 p.m. -- It is starting to sink in that the United States of America may actually elect Obama President.  Wow.

10:07 p.m. -- MSNBC is reporting about the McCain now "LOSER" party. Go ahead and put on a brave face, McCain supporters.  But it's our night.

10:10 p.m. -- Amendment 48 in Colorado bites the dust.  And the anti-abortion measure in South Dakota also does not pass.  So much for the "culture wars."

10:13 p.m. -- Chuck Todd is liking Florida for Obama.

10:17 p.m. -- Rumors circling that Oprah is at Grant Park.  Hubby starts to wonder when Obama will go on Oprah's show...

10:18 p.m. -- We make a brief switch to Faux News, to watch the funeral.  I ask my husband for the channel, and he gives me the digital non-HD channel. "Isn't there an HD channel?" "Do you really want to watch Fox in HD?" He replies.  Point taken.  Brit Hume in HD would scare me.

10:21 p.m. I can't believe I have spent four minutes watching the Foxers talk about the value of Sarah Palin and how it's the mainstream media's fault Palin didn't catch on.

10:25 p.m. -- Suffolk County in Virginia is finally coming in....one of two counties that until about 10 minutes ago hadn't reported.  And it is going for Obama.  Fairfax is still only 60% in.  Both Loudon and PW counties went for Obama at 53% and 55% respectively.  Look for Virginia to get called sometime in the next half hour.  For Obama.

10:31 p.m. -- Here's where the commentary starts to get wonky and boring.  We're a half hour away from anything new happening.

10:33 p.m. -- I think someone needs to give Bill Bennett a big chill pill, and if he says "economic cataclysm" one more time, I think Anderson Cooper should garrotte him.

10:41 p.m. -- Obama splits Nebraska with McCain.

10:52 p.m. -- You gotta wonder about the relationship between Rachel Maddow and Pat Buchannan.  Does she think of him as some crazy old uncle?  They've had these two paired up at every opportunity and it's been great to watch.

10:56 p.m. -- Tossing up a short prayer for the 11th District of Virginia.  Gerry Connelly is in a tight race with Republican Keith Fimian.  This is my district and I want it BLUE DAMMIT!

10:58 p.m. -- May  I state for the record that I called Virginia before Fox or BET OR MSNBC?  Just sayin' is all....

11:00 p.m. -- NBC/MSNBC Calls the race for OBAMA!

11:01 p.m. -- And there was much rejoicing.

Thanks for coming.  That's all I got.  What more is there to say?

I'm here! Right after The Fine-Assed Lonnie™
You bet'cha on the fine ass part.

;-)
Whose your mama? Obama! It's a bomba! For Obama! All this, and goofy dancing, too! I'm giddy and my meds are in full effect. Life is good. Maybe. I hope.
WHEN he takes Indiana, it's over. IF he takes Florida, the landslide is ON! Good to see you Liz. LTNS. :-)
Hi Lonnie! Hi Barry! Hi Susan!

It's too bad the Littlest Pundit is in bed. I could post more video.....
Hi Greg!

If we take Indiana, we can pop the champagne early tonight.
Obama ahead in Florida just now -- I am keeping my fingers crossed!
I'll be checking in. Hi everyone. I just got done answering the door for the second night in a row while Obama people came to find out if my 18 year old daughter had voted, or, tonight, if she needed a ride to the polls. She is four states away--and she mailed in her ballot--but it's interesting that they are so interested in her but not in me. Hey, I voted. If you cross over 40, do you become irrelevant?
I can't believe Keith is wearing a pink tie.
McCain talking on his plane on MSNBC with a goofy looking Lieberman looking over his shoulder
Lonnie, Chuck Todd is wearing a purple tie. And the whole greek column set is vomitous.
I'm here, drinking to "bellwether" and "too close to call". I want pizza but no food yet. I'm too glued to the TV to cook. No one delivers out here.

Thanks for the VA info, Liz. it had me worried.
I'm here too. Mostly lurking.
Awwww. He is a cute little Obama supporter. We are working on teaching the parrot to say O-Bam-A. Or Brrrack!
I'm with you Liz, the Greek columns look stupid. But then I'm not a big fan of ersatz Greek democratic civil religion iconography
The whole greek column thing reminds me of Obama's speech at the convention. But I remember MSNBC was using that during the primaries too so Obama maybe stole the idea from them.

I miss Tim Russert. I don't want to switch over to NBC because I don't like Brokaw but keep thinking about his saying at the memorial service that he had a Rolling Rock standing in the ready to drink to Tim's honor.
Hi Lisa, Sandra, Lauren, Undertow....

Lauren, you might want to drink to something other than "too close to call"....you won't make it past 10 p.m. that way.
You're watching CNN and haven't commented on the Jessica Yellin hologram yet? alice maurice has a thread on that if anyone wants to discuss it.
I'll drink to blovation, too. Greek columns are so passe.
I'm drinking every time they come back from a commercial and again every time they go to a commercial. I wish I could get wine delivered.

Tempura hand roll appetizer with NY Strip Steak, Farfalle w/herbed cream sauce, and sauteed mixed greens. Rioja and Malbec. Then we'll switch to the single malt, probably Laphroaig.

Party on, y'all. LOVE YOU, Liz...
I hate Ken Blackwell. He should be ashamed of himself for shilling against Obama.
It's just beer. I learned after the VP debate and the Jagermeister. Oy.
Elizabeth, I just checked to see where Brokaw is...can't find him.
And welcome to the party!
I'm here too, but not for long. And I want to say, Lonnie was the first person to unequivocably, without a doubt, called this one for Obama. Thanks for shining the light through the dark times, Lonnie! You guys have fun, I'll be drinking with friends on the top of Queen Anne Hill, toasting in all your general directions. Obamanos!
Lonnie,

I agree about having wine delivered. I definitely didn't plan ahead. I'm thinking I'll switch to shots of codeine cough syrup once the wine runs out...
He's a Commie Pinko Bastard Lonnie!!!!!!!!!!!! Faux News Headline popped into my head.

Yo to my main man Lonnie. Quickest wit on the OS. Excluding Wayne Gallant.
Liz, I'm glad I ate earlier, I would be too keyed up to eat now after getting into the poll watching.

For the record, I made up a recipe tonight...pasta with chicken in a white wine cream sauce:

sautéed diced bacon, drained, sauté shallots in a little of the bacon fat, added wine to deglaze a bit, added diced roasted chicken and some stock, reduced for a while...added some cream and unsalted butter, parsley, cilantro. Poured over al dente fettuccini, added the crispy bacon, topped with a bit more parsley, fresh grated parmesan and chunks of avocado with a sprinkling of cajun seasoning.

It was good, I had seconds.
Lonnie, that dinner sounds magnificent.
And I love you too.
Thanks, Liz. You are a great host!

I have to agree with you about Buchanan but I think he is too depressed to be allowed on camera. They seem to be relying on morning joe for the right wing talking points.

However, I may have to start a new drinking game if Buchanan comes back and chug every time he mentions Nixon.
Will get the 18 yr old single malt Macallan in a bit...
Barry, get over here and cook me some dinner.
w00t!!!1! Pennsylvania to Obama
Oh Barry, you know how to make a girl happy.
You are SO cooking that for me someday.
Elizabeth, I miss Tim Russert, too, but MSNBC was getting reporting by Luke Russert, who was very mature and interesting. Watch for him as up-and-coming.
I'll cook for you soon Lauren.
What's that I hear? Chopin's Funeral Marche after Pennsylvania just got called for Obama -- and now New Hampshire.
Woohoo -- 103 votes for Obama!! 2/3 of the way there.

Please please please hold up!
Now I'm going to watch FOX and see them squirm for the rest of the evening!
I saw Luke -- he is so like his dad in mannerisms. If you put about 5o pounds on him, he would be his double.
Rachel makes a good point -- no red states have turned blue yet. I need another drink!
Elizabeth, let's hope he keeps the weight off and goes for doubling in age rather than looks.
Lonnie I think you are a soothsayer my friend!
Kudos!
Pennsylvania is a back breaker!!!!
I agree about Luke -- he's got some bad risk factors. He better start taking aspirin now.
OMG OBAMA took my very Republican oriented county;
52% to 47% (with 5% to others). Guess I have to stop whining about how red we are hear!!!!

YEAH!!!!!!
Sorry, I mean here -- I am already celebrating -- lots of wine!!!

Go OBAMA!!! I think he IS going to take Florida!!!!!!
PA jsut called or Obama. The map looks bad for McCain....

Liz, I love you for hosting this! I may do a bit of "party hopping" tonight, but know that I consider myself one of your guests!

You are the original!

rated
I think it's time to switch to Kiltlifter. I need more red states to turn blue but I am preparing either way.
I love each and every one of you granite motherfuckers!!!!!!!!

We've battled long, we've battled hard, we may be beaten, broken and scarred.
But never once did one of us waver
Or give into political favor.
Party hard and party long
And don't forget to sing his song.
Obama wins, McCain goes home
Alaska's tundra Palin now will rome.
Greg, I think you're in Stage One Drunk, The Love Everyone Stage. And that's just fine.
I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!

(Absentee thumbification, going to pick up the GirlChild at scouts. Back around 9.)
So much death this weekend: Dick Durbin's daughter, Obama's grandmother and his Nevada campaign staff lead died yesterday, a friend of my husband's died suddenly yesterday.
I hate that McCain lives here.
Hey Liz...so glad to hear about VA. Just told hubby I was scared since VA looks so McCainish. He has officially banned me from any more fearful comments and is now plying me with crabcakes and wine. Champagne on ice...
not sure that the Dems can get to 60 in the Senate, I think they'll be just short of that when all the dust settles. But they are +2 so far
Early reporting in Texas: Obama - 52%, McCain 47% -Oooh, it just went up! 54% Obama, 45% McCain.

I'm staying up to date on my blog in Texas and we have beat reporter that you may all know as Pea, reporting from the streets....and bars.
We're having periodic flashes of fear and pain as we come to a point where we can visualize the idea of a world where McCain actually won. Someone please assure me that's not going to happen.
Elizabeth, so sorry about your husband's friend. And you've had a tough row to hoe too. Hope we get good news at least in a little bit, should make things better for all of us
Barry, I don't think they'll get to 60 either. Too bad but they'll have to work that much harder and they need to.

This is stressful as hell. Too bad I stopped taking Klonopin.
I suspect the rolling rock won't come out until after 11:00 or Obama hits 270. Isn't there some rule about not being able to drink alcohol on tv?
Julie...I get to have lunch with Pea tomorrow!
Hey gang! We had some terrific take-out Mexican, food all the way up here near the Illinois-Wisconsin border (Blue Land, btw). When my wife asked our usual restaurant host if he voted, he proudly proclaimed he couldn't this time, but he would be able to vote as an American citizen in 2010. Isn't that cool?

The one thing that still scares me is that there seems to be a rush to proclaim it's over, while there are still important states out west, not to mention important statewide initiatives...I hope all the hoopla doesn't depress the vote in NM, CO, CA, etc.
Kent, ain't gonna happen.

Greg and Jodi and Lonnie and Liz have all reached that stage, Lauren. Barry too if you consider his love for Lonnie's a**

I just poured a glass of wine and plan on catching up fast.
Does anyone know if Fulton County has been counted in Georgia yet?
I expect some major calls at 9 -- look at Florida!! (I think "den of pundits") might work..
Ok... next election: Palm Beach is not allowed to vote. They are just too stupid! If they can't figure out the "connect the dots" ballot, they just don't deserve to have their voice heard. We had that in NC last time around and it never caused anyone too much confusion -- and we are ranked 48 in the education.
Barry, I can count on one hand the number of men I've asked this question: Can I lick your spoons?
LOL PF, I'm not as think as you drunk I am! I promise can you that!
would be an honor Lonnie
Okay, now taking a break from snakes, Black Panthers, hearse drivers, etc. in Philly's voting day. Obama had a huge organization in PA, McCain had virtually none, so we figured the win was in. Feels good. Wish it felt great. (Sorry, have to shed one small tear for Hillary).

I'll be back after some comfort food and comfort hubbie. Can't wait to see Sarah go down... so to speak.
Hey Liz - I love your blog and am following you closely here. Just a question - why do you think that MSNBC is so far ahead of both CNN and NBC etc. CNN has been touting their new technology - why don't they have the same projections. Just wondering. Gotta agree with you about that MSNBC set! Yikes!
Obama's ahead in NC 54 to 46. Go Tarheels!
Kent, go straight to the single-malt, brother. McCain is chipped nasty on toast. Before this night is over, Obama will have a clear clim on well over 300 EC votes and I predict an 8 point popular vote margin.

Don't put too much ice in that scotch glass, either.
Honeychild, you are a treasure.
Elizabeth Dole defeated!
They just called Kay Hagan to win!!!
KAY HAGEN WINS!!!! DIE Liddy DIE!

A great omen for Obama winning NC
She can go home to Tent Pole Bob now!
Buh bye Beooootch
Yeehaw, way to go North Carolina!
Liddy Dole deserves that loss. She did nothing in her 6 years.
sc, I think CNN is trying hard to present itself as objective, and I know Toobin has said that they will not project based on exit polls alone as a matter of policy, meaning they have to wait until a certain percentage of precincts have actually reported. This can delay the call.
Liz, I so wanted Jessica to say "Help us, Obi Wan!"
Oh shoot, I don't know why I bother to report anything...all the votes are now in and McCain took my red county with 62% of the vote. Guess I cannot gloat at work tomorrow...:(

Go OBAMA!!! :))
I think it's personnel Liz. Matthews, Olbermann and Maddow are a powerhouse. Even Buchanan makes me laugh he's such an idiot. But you can tell he's mellowed a bit. He never makes sense. He called all 3 debates for McCain. That was when I knew he had won.
Personnel...Love Rachel Maddow. I have a Maddow crush. I know it will never be reciprocated, but I still have one. :-D
Does anyone else have a hard time taking Keith seriously after the Ben Affleck parody? I just start laughing as he opens his mouth and then expect his head to start swiveling...or maybe it is just the Jagermeister.
Georgia to McCain, bad. My BIL is one of those McCain votes. Didn't like Obama's "associations". Ugh.
I did have one solid influence on voting today. At preschool the kids were asked who they would vote for President if they could vote. All around the room they went until they came to my perfectly sweet granddaughter who yelled, "BARBIE" !

Guess who gives her the Barbies, Grandma Lisa...Guess who doesn't like Barbies....her mother...OK, bye, back to CNN!
I live in Tennessee and it sucks donkey schlong and I will be looking for the closest Blue State to move to... Looks like Asheville NC right now!
Step back from the Jaeger. Too early.

I loved SNL's Olbermann skit. And I'm with you.
A wipe out in PA...holy cow.
Grant Park -- my old stomping grounds. I wish I could be there.

At the risk of sounding racist, though, I really hope the south side of Chicago doesn't start rioting. They don't have a good track record of restraint in either victory or defeat.
Texas about even with 1.5 million votes each with only 1% precincts counted.
Greg, you can get a job at Biltmore, love it there.
The cnversation they just finished on MSNBC about the PA voting pretty much tells the story. The Puglies are out of step and it's gona be another 30 years before they get back on teh dance floor. Thank you, Baby Jesus.
Chicago looks incredible!

I would like everyone who predicted a landslide to take a bow!
I'm here! What did I miss?
I'm here! What did I miss?
Barry, I just told my wife they aren't as dumb in Texas as she thinks. There's work to be done, but a couple of percentage point difference shows a lot of progress!
Liz, thanks for explaining. I'm an American living in Canada - I voted (in Calif. cause that was my last place of residence) but I don't get how the precincts add up to the electoral votes. I get that the state has so many electoral votes but how do the precincts add up ot that? is it purely popular vote in each precinct? or what....? someone help out my addled brain. And Sally - I get the tear for Hillary - I had it this morning watching her vote. But I'm totally psyched now for Obama.
Lonnie, Honeychild, where I voted this morning said we needed to get closer to baby Jesus. This is the first step.
Anyone else see the Houdini Cork Screw as a true testament in target marketing? It's like they know we all have drinking games going now.

(I'm having a hard time spelling correctly the first time -- the wine is kicking in)
Hi, everyone, Much good news, great party, but my angst continues: along with Procopius I am worried that an early apparent success can depress needed late votes in the west. That will keep me up late, like a white-knuckled flier, keeping the plane up by force-of-will.
ST, Liz is fall down drunk and we're all a bit worried about her bro!
Welcome to the PARTAYYYYYYYYYYYY!
Lonnie, you are a funny motherfucker! :-D
I have ABC in my flippng-stations rotation and every now and then they show Times Square outside their studio - it looks a little like New Year's Eve out there! What fun!
Biltmore is wonderful. I bought a candle at the spa just to get the bag.
sc, they have to tally the votes in each precinct and report. Electors (i.e. electoral votes) in most states are allocated by the overall popular vote. Precincts are only important in that votes get reported in the blocks from each precinct.
ha Steve, Dallas County went Democratic in 2004, and solidified in 2006. One telling element: The County Sheriff here is a gay hispanic woman although she's in a tough race with a straight and narrow republican. Another, more important telling point: when the judges start changing parties to get reelected, you know the trend is solidified. There have been a lot of judges changing from Republicants to Democrats. They look further in the future than most political contests.
By my count, with PA and NH called, plus other assumed, non-swing states, Obama is at 259 electoral college votes.
CAtherine, People want to be heard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm with ya on skepticism at all times, but the party has just begun!!!!
Grab something cold, warm, room temperature, as long as it has mas alcohol.
PF, I live an hour away from Biltmore Estates and I do love it. Asheville is a college hippie town too with great jazz at "The Orange Peel". I'm there!
Asheville has some nice little wineries too...Another plus!
o'stpeh, that is such a girlie girl thing to do, you are so cute
Ok. Poll here --

Did you wait "IN line" or "ON Line" and where are you from?

I'm from Illinois and we stand "IN Line". Dave Axelrod just talked about standing "ON Line"
I'm here...although not for long. Going to friend's house and they get so ridiculous about me carting my laptop with me everywhere. Maybe I can figure out a way to sneak it in...

Will check in later. Liz, you're awesome.
Someday I will hike the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine.
I want to say how much I love Carville but then people will assume too much.....
Axelrod has been on the road too much. It's IN LINE. No question about it.
Axelrod is very well-spoken.
maryt, as Robert Palmer famously said, "Miiiight as well face it you're addicted to OS"
Alright folks, I'm out.
Enjoy.
Peace and Love,
Greg
I heart David Axelrod. Smart men do it for me.

We always stand in line or we queue up, never on line unless we're on the computer.
"Mister Leader" said to Tom DeLay! Why is that fucktard even allowed to be on TV?
PF, let me know when you start getting serious about that goal and I will join you.
Greg, where's the love???
ooooo, Nancy Pelosi is the evil boogywoman. DeLay is saying they will double the minimum wage in 6 months -- like that is so evil.
Can you believe how respectful Matthews is of Delay? Claims that (horrors) Pelosi may double the minimum wage!!! Game plan is to vilify Pelosi now. Pelosi will be the new drinking word. "Sir, I like the way you hate."
I think MSNBC is playing our drinking game. I can't believe Chris Matthews just said to DeLay "I love the way you hate, sir"
Sandra, I'm going to start training soon. My new med is eliminating my joint pain. I'm happy, happy, happy for many different reasons.

My stupid stepdaughter didn't vote.
I'm sorta missing JD now....
HALLELUUUUUUUUUUJAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!

Forgive the shouting, the joy can't be contained. =o) On the outside, I'm marking time until I can leave work. On the inside, I'm Shawn Johnson and Nastia Liukin doing tumbling runs! After the leaden despair of 2004 and the resignation since then,

THIS IS SO SWEEEEET!
Bring on the brie, bring on the pate and Champagne and Beethoven's ninth. Tonight, I celebrate in true Liberal Elitist style!

Great job blogging Liz, I hasten to add.
I couldn't change the channel, because I was posting somewhere else. Now, I'll have to go scrub my face to remove the DeLay Slime.
Tom DeLay is the skidmark on the underwear of life. He just said "Ah don haate." Well, allow some hate to go your way from me.
damn. i wanted GA. i had that blue on my map.

i'm just getting news. just got home from the local HQ in denver and posted about it. uploading pix of the operations now.

i need some results!

i did hear NPR call PA and NH for us, and liddy dole booted. hahaha.
By my count, Obama with 259 (HI, WA, OR, CA, MN, IA, WI, IL, MI, MD, DC, PA, DE, NJ, NY, CT, RI, MA, NH, VT, ME)

Swing states with polls closed but too close to call: OH (20), IN (11), VA (13), MO (11), MS (6), FL (27), NC (15)

Swing states closing right now: AZ (10), CO (9), NM (5), SD (3)
Great one, Barry! Stage One, I love you guys!!!
I'll take the NY for KS trade any day.
intrade.com has odds of McCain winning 2.9%! They put their money where their mouth is.
FUCK FUCK FUCK! Obama still hasn't picked up any red states.
Too close to call in AZ. Woohoohoohoohoo!!!
AZ - too close to call. Everybody take a drink!
Hi Liz, hi all - a little late - everyone needs to send a big hurrah to CCC for the win in NH!
MSNBC has to wait until 11 p.m. to call this election? Oh, the drama!
Wake County, NC -- 95 percent for Obama. I'm proud!

I'm still scared shitless but proud.
Fox called NM for Obama. If true, that'd put my calculation at 264 for Obama.
Hey, Alex Castellanos, you don't have much room to talk about Franken being a lunatic. You idjit.
Tucson will definitely break for Obama. Not sure about Phoenix.
LIZ! What's going on in Virginia?!!
VA HAS to go to Obama!!! Are all those tobacco plants still in Richmond by I-95?
Liz-ling -- what is going on with Virginia? Hasn't the north (your territory, been reported). We are counting on you -- the Liz of the Virg -- to make it happen! :)
Folks, don't worry about Virginia. They haven't counted Fairfax County.
As Ohio goes, so goes the election, in the past...Obama is throttling him right now. Florida would be sweet justice for '00.
Freaky voted! All must be well.
ST is right. Most of McCain's VA lead comes from near where I live. It's backward ass BFE rednecks who would NEVER vote for a black man. Hell, most haven't seen one. When they go east and count, the numbers will reverse with a vengeance.
bbd, PF and Liz -- guess we are on the same page with our concern for VA. I am still hugely optimistic. Mark Warner won strong -- go VA!
Thanks, Liz!!! My ex is from Alexandria and he's been burning up the phones with the relatives still there. He thinks you're right about VA and not Chuck Todd.

GoBama
SW Virginia is just an extension of West Virginia politically.
One of the scariest moments in my life happened in a WV rest area after i got stuck in the fog and had to pull over and sleep there. Deliverance on opposite sides of locked doors. i was lucky.
18 year old McCallen? We should change the world EVERY week!
NC is still a toss-up. McCrory -- the GOP candidate for government is from Mecklenberg county so could dilute the close race. Charlotte doesn't like the state being so Raleigh-centric so they could break for McCrory.
A stranger rubbed my head at the polls. I thought that was nice and friendly.
Boo-yah! O-H-I-O
although I still don't trust NBC
Gary, I'm raising my glass and toasting you my friend. This deliciously warm sip is for you.
Undertow,

Not sure about 40, irreverent, but I can tell you that over 50 you become invisible.

Liz, out of the corner of my ear I heard something about ballot problems in Florida. Was I hallucinating again, or did you see this too?
NBC/MSNBC called Georgia, but CNN has not...
IF they call Florida, it's over.
Reborn in OHIO. (Channel Neil Young.)
Chug -- Scarborough has given us another thread reference.
Want some fun, go over to Fox. Brit Hume and Karl Rove are like morticians. Yeah!
HTF does Louisiana vote for a Republican President after Katrina?
That's just appalling.
OHIO!

Only Fox and NBC and ABC have called Ohio for Obama. Only Fox has called NM for Obama.

If true, by my count, Obama with 284 (HI, WA, OR, CA, MN, IA, WI, IL, MI, MD, DC, PA, DE, NJ, NY, CT, RI, MA, NH, VT, ME, OH, NM)

Obama wins.
woohoo, Ohio is all we need to know....
This is FUN time to watch "Faux News"
McCain has the WORST campaign spokes-people I've ever seen in an election. Tucker Bounds being THE worst.
Whooo-Hoooo!

Phsssst! Rrower!
I'd like some guacamole. Right now. Bitch.
Ok. I can breathe now. Obama has it locked up now.
This year's top vacation spot? ANYWHERE in Ohio!

Start the dance. . . .
My ape fooled me with cornbread. I just knew it was cake.
Caruso, you're here!!! Welcome!
I'm not dancing until McCain concedes.
Anxiety abating, appetite exploding!
Umbrella, I want that guacamole too....I think I am sending hubby upstairs for the Doritos.
Macarena, anyone??? Perchance the chicken dance???
BTW, I would just like to say FUCK YOU, JTP.
McCain will give a half-hearted concession speech. "My friends" will abound!
God love Loosiana, I went to school there and miss Olde New Orleans more than my first girlfriend ... but stoopid is very popular there.
Florida will be a cluster fuck of law suits and may never be called.
m.a.h-I just thought it was odd that each time they came to the door, they didn't really ask about me or the mr. We're the ones paying the taxes and mortgage. :) I'm very happy and tentatively optimistic right now, and I'm not even drinking.
Here lies "Joe the Plumber". May he rot in Hell.
Do you think Buchanan has had a heart attack -- I haven't seen him all night (not that I'm complaining, btw)
To hell with the Macallan 18, I just took the Macallan 25 out of the cabinet!!!
Joe the Plumber, yet another pariah from the right...Well deserved.
"This is very devastating news for John McCain." -- Wolf Blitzer

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Anyone for more chili?
9:34 Thread (Ohio)

DING!!DING!! DING!! ohio cnn called ohio. it smells liek a skunk ape died in my livingroom
I'm having naughty Rachel Maddow fantasies right now. Is that wrong? :-D I know she would be more interested in my wife, but man, she's sexy!
Presidential Election -
(Florida)

Obama - 51%

McCain - 48%

55% of precincts reporting.

I am proud to say that Duval County went to Obama!!

WOO HOO!!!!

I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!

::disclaimer: I was not allowed to begin drinking until now due to nursing a baby. Let the games BEGIN!!!!(It's NEVER too early for Jaeger!!::
You're a better man than me Steve, so you deserve it. Cheers!
Jodi did you wean your baby just for this event?
Procopius is my brother by another mother indeed!
jesus i guess im kinda late to this aprty what channels are you guys watching? what good is a hologram if you cant beat abc and fox on calls?
Jodi, it is Jaeger time. Welcome!
Y'all have fun. I'm going to sign off and finish my wine and my scarf and soak up the history and the calm.

Cheers...
FT - Nope. He's just asleep for the night. All the alcohol will have left my system by the next nursing tomorrow at nap time. (He's 21 months old, the kid needs a new hobby anyway.)
I found when nursing twins, a wee bit o' alcohol made the evening better. Yes, I will burn in hell.
OHIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

WE TOOK OHIO!!!!

::snoopy dance!!!::
BArry, Greg, come on over. You too roger!
OK, that's it. CNN just mathematically proved McCain can't get the electoral votes needed for a win. I"m gonna go eat some pizza now.
Is it wrong to flip over to Fox just to watch their hopes and dreams crumble before their eyes?

Nah....
Jodi, smoke some pot. The TCH will balance out the alcohol and your baby will grow up to be a cool dude. Or dudette. Whatever the case may be.
Hey Jodi, I'm going to! I'm suspending my 'try to be nicer' campaign. I'm letting my inner snark out for a romp. She just may smoke pot, too.
Lonnie what is up with Loosyana? How come dudes like you and Carville don't leave deeper prints?
Lonnie, you f'ing slay me man! LMMFAO. Pro- I'm there bro, what shall I bring in the form of potent potables?!!!!!!!
CHEERS to all you great "PATRIOTS", TRUE Patriots!!!!!
TRUE PRO-Americans!
I'm NOT drunk (yet), but I do love you all!
I'd like to see AZ go for Obama and I want to see McPain's concession speech (ooooh and Bible Spice's, too).
Noriega was ahead of Cornyn in the early announced returns in TX. But I can't find any online returns for shizzle. I guess I'll have to flip to local news.
OK, I added pix, finally, to my post on the Denver field office, so you can picture what the hell I was describing, and how the operation ran.

It's here, if you're interested:

http://open.salon.com/content.php?cid=37957

Now I can check out some damn returns! And actually join the chat. I feel like I'm missing out.
Greg may be right on Florida, ripe for litigation. To blog pimp, my Florida poll place prohibited photos (hmmm, inadvertent p's there): http://open.salon.com/content.php?cid=38728
Sorry I had to bail a while earlier. Child minor emergency. :-)
Glad to be back amongst the backbone of the Obama campaigners!
Ohio! I just saw that. Woohoo!

That about seals it.

Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HTF did McLame get 40 percent in Illinois?
Historical, drink MF's.!
You know, thae Bayou state is really post-politics. Or pre-politics, I'm not sure which. It's the birthplace of funk and jazz and food and drink that few people in the world could possibly conceive of...on top of that there's a whole lot of incest and ignorance and toxic waste that would make your skin peel, so, in a word, it's bigger than me and Jimmy Carville.
Just got back and I see that they were reporting Musgrove ahead earlier in the Mississippi Senate race. Sorry, but that was never gonna happen, although it is nice that he made a strong showing. The Senate seat will go to Haley Barbour's hand-picked candidate, Roger Wicker.
Hey Liz, thanks way back for the electoral/precinct process. My only remaining question for the pundit is what's up with the one electoral vote difference between CNN and MSNBC? Where is it? Is that because of Maine or something? I swear this is the last question. Thanks!
hey Liz, everyone - I am way beyond fashionably late. Sorry about that - we got a last minute invite to a real-live party across the street.

I come back and my map is off the front page, what is THAT about?!

I guess we shall soon see a gorgeous BLUE, BLUE, BLUE & a little bit of RED Electoral map, no?!
sc I think you are right...the one point is Maine.
No Liz! Not Doritos... More scotch!
Jodi, if it's a boy, he may stop nursing soon at 21 months, but he'll resume in about 14 more years. :-DDDD
Oh that was just uncalled for!!!!!!
damn, north dakota for mccain. i have a few problems with my map. hehehe. (yes, folks, it's not about the victory, it's about my map. hahaha.)

i do want a landslide, though. ohio was nice. nm was gravy. NC would be spectacular (though i've seen nothing to know if it's even close. i must get to a tv.)
GREG!
Nice....

LOL

Yeah, I need to drink more!
I owa, I owa, I owa lot of money to the bank!
What the hell is up with the popular vote being so close??? Are there really that many voters who want McBush and Failin' in the White House? Yes, the electoral votes are what it's all about, but it doesn't bode well for this country if we are still split 50-50 in the popular vote. Sheesh.
"MT is too close to call"

that in itself is a wonderful thing.
I don't know about you but I enjoy reporting from the Jefferson Memorial. Happy, happy, joy, joy.
Susan, I'm surprised by the popular vote too. But like I said in 2004 when Bush was elected ( I don't say reelected): It takes a village of idiots to elect the village idiot.
Fox News : "They are now admitting, there is probably no longer a needle to thread."

Oh, sweet victory!!!!

EAT IT, GRANDPA MUNSTER!!!!

I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!
I LOVE ALL YOU GUYS SO MUCH TONIGHT.
IT FEELS LIKE AMERICA AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!
I've been a trooper live blogging the odd weather obsessed coverage by the local conservative station but I need a break. Are any of you talking about the weather?
Rachel reporting the SD abortion ban has failed
Popular vote close. Cally hasn't come in yet. LOTS of popular vote out west yet to come and a lot in Broward County FL and in Eastern Virginia...All the rednecks are gone to bed...
Draconian setbacks in So. Dakota... it's the frickin Age of Aquarius all over again...
I LOVE YOU GUYS, TOO. I am forming a virtual hands-over-shoulders line. Join me before someone makes us do the chicken dance.
Scratch that Noriega pipe dream. Texas is still red, from the neck down. But it will be a close loss, and Democrats may still pick up seats here.
Talk to me Rachel Maddow you sexy intellectual hunk of burning love journalism! She's so HOT! :-O
Yeah, Dorinda -
IT'S RAINING WHOOPASS!!!
Coyote, I made chili too. Turkey, with some duck, and black beans and butternut squash---sounds strange, I know, but it's good and spicy and hot.

Guys--New England is a Republican free-zone. Love that--lots of ties to NE.
The popular vote is only at roughtly 50 mil so far - and they expect upwards of 130 mil to have voted. So who knows how the pop vote will play out. But I agree with you. Too many people have voted for McCain. What is up with that.
DH & ds are making me watch the Comedy Central special. They are quite a bit behind in their projections - but funny, nonetheless.

I just hijacked the remote - yes, ds should be in bed. I'm going to go find some NC & VA data for you.
Rocky Mountain News calling it for Obama (no real numbers reported) and a defeat for fertilized eggs as persons. Yay.
C. Todd - only 50% the vote is in in Fairfax, VA and Obama's moving up
and Mecklenburg County, NC - only 25% in, big Obama county
Tomorrow (or Thursday) I will start practicibg the "untiy principle" Tonight and tomorrow I just revel in the win, and get some "Nyah nyah and a few Fuck You's in to all the people who have hated on me for the last 8 years. I promise it will be brief though.
Barry's got it right--we've still got plenty of villages fully populated by idiots. But at least this time the electoral collegiate is kicking their butts instead of ours. I'm going to take Greg's suggestion as prediction, too. All of the remaining popular vote will go for Obama, resulting in landslides by all measures!
m.a.h., you're making me HUNGRY! Can I come over and eat?
ok, I've had one too many Obama-ritas (blue!) but isn't the math like this:

Obama - 207 (per CNN, now)
+55 CA +7 OR +11
= 280
and the rest are gravy? or is that presuming too much from the LEFT coast?
Look at those people in Grant Park, Chicago. Ready to celebrate, but not ready to "riot" as so many neo-filth predicted. I suspect most crowds throughout the country will be the same way.
BTW - Looks like Slots passed in Maryland fairly handily. Not pleased about that, but it was inevitable.
I think at this point we need to ask how gracious Grampa McNasty can manage to be tonight. I called this months ago and have no illusions about the huge job Obama has before him, but it's pretty dang awesome to be living in this historical moment.

And sharing it with my OS peeps!
Hey Liz, NYT online map is now showing Virginia leaning Obama at 86% polls reporting.
This Charles Schwab commercial with the CEO chat that CBS is running really creeps me out.
I'm staying over here. Can't take watching any more weather reports, John Anderson talking about fishing, and Republican concession speeches. It is sad on Channel 13 in Orlando.
damn asshole Saxby Chambliss is pulling away with 69-percent reporting. Buckley (the libertarian) has 4-percent. Jim Martin is going to need to close the gap big time to force a runnoff, but Dekalb (major population center, majority AA) is slow coming in.
Lonnie, can't think of a nicer bunch to share this with. Seriously.

Now. I gotta get another beer. To celebrate.
whoa, got to CBS.. the Howard U. shots are incredible!
The Man says that the Phoenix Biltmore called.
They want McCain off their lawn because they've booked a bar mitzvah.
VA - 89% votes in, Obama up by 40K votes, 1 % lead!
lpsrocks I love blue Obamaritas. That blue pineapple liquer (sp) cuts the acidity. Tyler is here. I have to stick to limited amounts of wine. I'm there in spirit though.
CHEERS Lonnie and Liz! Brewski time!
Republicans on Capitol Hill calling it A Blood Bath
according to Stephen Tschida on NewsChannel8/local reporting
I wonder where Roger is tonight. Think he's at Grant Park? Think he's getting naked?
Anybody see Aaron at Grant Park?
Or maybe a well-endowed squirrel?

Boy, those people really look... FUCKING THRILLED!!!!
Dorinda - hey, I finally got you on the google Maps map. Sorry about that!

Dems - 56 senate seats; picked up 5

McConnell looking to hold his seat. No data on Franken (MN) or Chambliss (GA). Sixty seats in Senate unlikely.
Okay, I'm embracing it now----It's done and done

McCain shall sleep no more-----but the rest of us will!!!!yippee!!!!!
T.D. Jakes is a good man.
re: Popular Vote - remember that California numbers are not in
I'm going from the ridiculous coverage (Orlando 13) to the sublime (BET --seems appropriate).
m.a.h., the undead NEVER sleep! :-D
WOW 300 comments here!

Obama is slipping ahead in VA, yes!
I wouldn't fret too much about the popular vote. It hasn't included the west coast yet. Pollster is estimating a 9 point popular vote winning margin. Compared to recent elections, anything more than a 5 point winning margin should be considered huge.

Things are looking favorably for the SD criminal abortion ban to be defeated.
Brand spankin' new here!! I'm a liberal okie, and feel compelled to share that this space saved my sanity lo these past few nerve-wracking weeks. Had to join this party and add my WOOOHOOOO!!!
::gigglesnort::
Is it the alcohol or am I half the f'ing cover?
Lonnie---the booze is MUCH better at my house than it is at Grant Park! Am just soaking it ALL in!
welcome erica, there be good people here
No shit. Now they're just killing time in the crystal city. This thing is so over and they are just going to yaak it up for another two or threee hours before they call it... I need to go look for my crack pipe.
I love seeing this happy crowd at Spelman college.
10:35 pm - I'm with Liz - hereby calling Virginia for Obama

Only 65% of precincts in Fairfax & Arlington counties are in
Arlington - 67% - 32% for Obama
Fairfax - 59% - 41% for Obama

we're talking another 150,000 votes or more in these counties to come in
Welcome, Erica!!!

We're so glad to have you here!
Welcome dustbowldiva! Cool name :-)

It's a great party here!
Welcome Dustbowldiva! Dive in the party of the "elitists". :-D
GAH! It's gone.
It was a brief and shining moment.
(translation: mistake)
LOL
Hey guys!! If you haven't done so yet, flip over to Fox News. Brit Hume looks like someone just ran over his puppy!!

Ya gotta love schadenfreude.
Ahhhhhhhhhh

I am enjoying visions of she-whose-name-need-never-be-mentioned-again bein' ALLLLLLL pissed off about how McCain lost her election.

Sigh - home to Alaska and out of my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the welcome!! Haven't been this excited in many years - not since Clinton's win in '92!!!
Rove and Hume will give each other a rub and tug under the table for condolence.
Greg -- Who's pitchin' and who's catchin', do ya think??
Kellylark - about Palin? Second that!!!!
Switched back to local TV station. Look out for Republican charges that absentee ballots in Florida were duplicated and might be fraudulent. That's what they are talking about now.
'diva, darlin' - I was excited in '92, too ... I hope Barry keeps hope alive longer than Bubba did.
Here's Buchanan...no shit there's problems. And guess who's leaving us with them? Glad to hear him (sorta) blame McCain's loss on Bush.
Fox has just called Virginia for Obama!
Michael, Rove has submissive catcher written all over his doe boy little fat f**k face!
I'm at a Boulder party right now. People are going crazy and wild. And I swear, they're starting to take off their clothes!
Don't know who the young man is who anchors BET's coverage and he says is trying to stay professional but I just want to see him get happy! They are showing coverage of Phoenix where they are no longer putting the results on the screens at the Biltmore.
Get naked Mary! Or take pictures. Or Both!
Watch yourself, Mary.
Grab a punkin if you start getting that naked feeling.
BET newsreporter says this is biggest black party since OJ but that was a party against American and Obama is a party for America.
NewsChannel08 just called Virginia for Obama

with 91% of vote in; 51% - 49%

WaHooWa!!! for the Commonwealth!!!!!
in another OBTW - Marion Barry won a City Council seat in DC

WTF?!
10:59 AP calls FLORIDA for OBAMA!!
oh liz - Fimian is going down!! deep breaths.
11 p.m. Good job, Liz, ya got it!!!
Sending a big Nelson (of Simpson's fame) "Ha! Ha!" to the Biltmore!!!
Free at last! Free at last!
I wonder if Chris Matthews carries around a roll of paper towels with him. What a gusher....
11:00 p.m. - AP calls OBAMA for PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!!!
Game over. Finished. Landslide.
BET officially called Obama at 270 votes.
Massive House turnover in Colorado:

Marilyn Musgrave, the arch-conservative who sponsored the U.S. constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, in one of the safest seats for Rs in the U.S. House HAS LOST!

His is deep Republican country.

She is losing big, and the local NBC affiliate--which is by far the top news station in Denver, and has Floyd Ciruli, the best in the state at their decision desk . . . just called it for Betsy Markey.

Oh GOD! As I type this I hear screams through my window. It's 9 p.m. I have a feeling we have a new president. There is a barrage of screaming outside. I've never heard that happen here before.
We can hear people in our quiet little neighborhood screaming "OBAMA!!!"

It's all over.

My vote mattered!!!!

Where is that cry-out tally?
Now the fireworks start.
And that, my friends, is that.

-30-
Just finished my Macallan 25. Ahhh.

I don't think the popular vote will stay this close. Once all the big cities are counted, as well as the West Coast, I'll bet it will be closer to 55%-45%.
Thank you God!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CONGRATULATIONS EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!!
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE
PEEEEEEEEEEEEACE
HAPPIIIIIIIIIINESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Goosebumps and tears!!!! I can breathe again!!
Look at the masses of people in Grant Park and at Spellman College in Atlanta ... the Biltmore is a tomb. And good riddance to all those mean spirited hubristic assh*les who refused to believe we're all in this together.

A new day is dawning and its time to rise and shine and crow at the coming of the light!
I am now really proud to be an American.

Take that Sarah Palin. And go back to your real America wherever that is.
THEY CAN'T TAKE THIS. EVER. IT IS PAYBACK THAT FLORIDA ENDED IT. KARMA IS A BITCH.

THEY STOLE MY STATE EIGHT YEARS AGO AND I JUST TOOK IT BACK, YOU BASTARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry if this sounds like a plug - but if ANYONE wants a "I Voted for Obama" graphic/poster , go on over to my blog - ( a couple of you have been there already) you can use it to make t-shirts- mugs whatever your little hearts desire. There are several sites online that will do it for you - it's the least I can do ........
liz - you rock!! Thank you so much for hosting the party.

AP reports that McCain has called Senator (President-elect) Obama to concede.

Ok, now I'm going to get weepy with Rachel Maddow.

good nite! great job!
Hey, Jodi just sent me email saying there was a party at Liz's place. What's the occasion? Anything special going on?
Pack your shit and head back to Wasilla you Chillbilly!
Fuckin Grandpa, sign your Cialis/Viagra contract.
Great stuff. This is a really great thing.
Mary, Dave, JD and all our Colorado brothers and sisters - you rock!
And what clinches it for me: McCain is evidently calling Obama to concede, which must mean a margin so large, so huge as to prohibit voting-fraud lawsuits! Fabulous, FABulous, FABULOUS!
CHANGE for the BETTER!!

Now only to hear him speak, just in a few moments.
Dorinda, Palin is part of our country. She may imagine there being an America she belongs to that's different than ours, but that was an illusion on her part. It will be Obama's job to be President to all, and our job to be one nation. So if she wants to divide us, let her initiate it herself—we shouldn't be pushing divisiveness. Time to start clean.
BOO all you want, you losers!

ROB! {{HUGGLES}}

We missed you!!!
It will be a long time before I forget the long camera shot of Jesse Jackson standing in the crowd in Chicago, unnoticed, his eyes swollen with weeping he can not, will not, does not want to and has no need to control.
a decent speech by McCain
McNasty is talking and does not get it. One does not have to be African-American to be proud now. It is not a white America. It is not a black America. Our new president told us that.
Classy concession speech.
Other than the screaming bastards in the audience.
Nice.
Ahh...the reigning stiffy for SP. We'll see how long she holds up under the kleig lights.
McCain's best lines, summarized:

"Let there be no reason now, for any American to fail to cherish their citizenship in this, the greatest nation on earth. Senator Obama has achieved a great thing for himself and this country. I applaud him and offer my sincere sympathy that his grandmother did not live to see his day. We have argued our difference and he has prevailed.. No doubt many differences remain, but I pledge to him tonight with all my power to help him lead us in the coming days. I urge all Americans who supported me to joing me in offering our next president our good will and earnest effort to come together, bridge our differences, restore our prosperity, defend our security in a dangerous world, and leave our grandchildren a country that is a a stronger and better place than we ourselves inherited."
Thank you Grandpa for finding your finest moment after it was too late. Kudos for finding your conscience, finally.
Get lost Palin, you ugly whore!
Dedicating Johnny Horton's old classic "North to Alaska" to Miss Palin!
I had no idea how much rage I had left in me over the 2000 theft of my Floridian vote.

It's all coming out, like some sort of dam broke.
MSNBC: "This is live video of the scene outside of the White House."

Surprisingly, no torches in sight.
Rob, you crack me up.

44% of Mississippi vote went to Obama. That is not shabby.
I wonder if that crowd outside the White House is there to help the Current Occupant make his transition to obscurity.
12 yr. old son won't go to bed until he hears Obama's speech - "come on mom - history is being made!" Gotta love it!!! Thanks Liz, and all for letting me join this party!!!
Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner!
Understood Kent. That will be my one Sarah Palin comment.

Felt so good to say it.

I know unity is what is important now.
Virginia too, you were right lpsrocks. But above all, Lonnie Lazar, you got it: Finished. Game over. Landslide!
OOOh... Keith just used the word Landslide.
They are partying in Kenya on MSNBC. . . as I look east out our back window I can see the TV lights from downtown.. . . .waves of energy. . . Jessee Jackson actually being quiet. . .I might have to take my clothes off and run down the street!!!!!
Liz you are a phenomenal hostess! Thanks
Thank you for an unbelievable night, Liz!
You are truly the Hostess with the Mostest!

(Thumbified with tears of relief and joy!)
Michelle, what have you got on, darlin'?
Thank you oh munificent intelligent hostess--your great party is culminating at midnight, with the whole Obama family walking on stage.

The wonder of it all.
Thanks Liz. Great job. And like Lonnie said---the Obama girls get their puppy.
Liz,

I forgot to thank you for having me last night. I had a truly great time with some truly great people.

Peace, Love and Blessings to you and your family,
Greg
Liz, I was just so full of it with my hopes for Dems in Tejas. Full of false hope, mostly. Though I still think Dems are due for a resurgence here, if they would get organized. My state rep, in district 50 (one of the Dealayed districts), Mark Strama, a Democrat, won reelection. Strama granted my son an interview once, for a college paper he was writing, which is classy. Anyway.
