Unofficial OS Inauguration Party and Meet and Greet

Rate: 19 Flag

Okay folks, here it is, your chance to meet your fellow OSers who are in Washington DC to witness the inauguration of Barack Obama!

 WHEN:

Sunday, January 18, 2009

5:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.

 WHERE:

Flying Fish815A King StreetAlexandria Virginia

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Beer and wine and soda on my tab.  Everything else on yours.  I am negotiating karaoke.

This BTW, is the sushi place that you may remember from the famous Sushi Edition of the now famous Iron Pundit series.  For those of you who have always wondered what a Danny Deco roll is, here's your chance.  They do have other things on the menu for those who are not sushi-inclined.

Alexandria is easily accessible by metro but the restaurant is a hike from the station.  There are cabs and buses that can take you if you don't want to hoof it.  Parking in Alexandria is always a problem, on weekends especially.

The party will be in the bar in the basement under my name.

SEE YOU ALL THERE!

Did you mean January 19th?:)
Thank you Roger....all correct now.
I'm sorry I'm going to miss it. Y'all have fun!!
How close is Virginia to Redondo Beach, CA? Can I take a cab?
Sorry Liz, I am half way across the globe. Have a nice time anyway and share some snaps.
Under "what to expect," I was hoping for the mention of all the photos that will be taken and shared. Can't wait to see the aftermath of this!
Oh, trust me, there will be photos, everyone.

If I can work it, there may even be a liveblog....after all...this IS Open Salon.
Would love to be there, but family beckons. Eat some sashimi for me.
Eel, tuna, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
There WILL be partying here though, that I can guarantee. Are we going to have an online moderator for this event?
What a wonderful gathering you will all have together! Am so envious and will be with you all in spirit and jubilation for the event at hand. Incredible that you can put this on, Liz. Come to SF sometime and I will host something here, certainly less glamorous than the Inauguration, but will give it my best effort with some of our west coasties. Have a ball and will look forward to a fatty post about the fan fare. Cheers!
You know if I could, I would! Lucky ducks! Throw a few back for me.
I wish I could be there too. Maybe in 2012.
I'm going to get an engine on my broom so I can whisk in and share a toast with you all! Wishes for LOTS of fun!!!!! :)
Still debating on whether I'll go even though it's only a 5 hour drive for me. Your invitation is a strong incentive. I will look forward to seeing the photos and hearing about it on OS.
Wow I hope I can make it! You'd think it would be a no-brainer since I'm just a stone's throw, but with a hubby that never has weekends off and two kiddos in tow, it's always an adventure. ÷÷≥
Sorry, Liz. I am going to be goosestepping to a funeral dirge with Pat Buchanan. :)
I'm there. but just for the sushi.

Just kidding, of course, it will be so fun to actually meet you, Liz, and all the other OSers who can come.

Lisa
Oh, I wish, I wish! 4 million people give me the heebie-jeebies however.
If my wing is allowed to fly, I'm in. Will let you know. Best friends live in Alexandria, would be staying there anyway, what a break. Thanks for doing this, Liz, you're a pip!
I am so in! (And so excited!). If nothing else, I volunteer my laptop and/or Blackberry and/or iPod Touch for liveblogging assistance... and wow, yes, I have too many gadgets by far.
Okay, I have confirmed there WILL be karaoke. As if we needed any more fun.....

I am so sorry that a lot of folks won't make it. We will eat plenty of sushi in honor of all the OSers, GT, but I will save a piece of eel just for you.

Cathy, you are SO on....you should know that I do get to travel quite a bit these days, so it could be sooner than you know.

gracie, roger, we'll miss you. Denis, it's one awful expensive cab ride, but we'd love to have you if you have the cash to spare.

Mama, fire up that broom. You won't be the only pagan in the crowd, believe me.

Joan K, c'mon, everybody's doing it.....(that enough peer pressure or do I need to ratchet it up some more?)

Artfish, lps, Saturn, I am so excited too! And Sally, you absolutely HAVE to make it, broken wing and all....

P-F if there are 4 million people at this party I am in for one hell of a bar tab.

Geoff W -- Hey, this is mostly an OS party, and you are a part of OS, even if you do hang out with bums like Pat Buchannan. You're totally welcome.
Well, the karaoke is the deal maker for me!
Kicks the dirt and blushes.

Well, I actually advanced an inaugural event in 1980 and unfortuntely made a headline that got me into a little bit of trouble. I was the second for the Young Republican's Ball that had a much lower ticket price than the others. When a reporter asked me why it was so much cheaper, I looked at him and said, "That's because they haven't inherited their money yet."

That got a lot of play the next day, and my buddy, the lead advance feigned ignorance as to whom on the team had made such an egregious utterance.

Inaugurals are a good time, and everyone should do one once, I think.

Kind of like going to a Super Bowl.

I'll be alone in the corner calculating the cost to me of removing the cap on social security given, as a small business owner, I pay 15.3% rather than 7.65% as well as the impact of the higher top rate and the potential impact of a universal health care plan.

The way I see it, I could be in for about a $30,000 pay cut, which is about what it costs to send a kid to college, and I have two in college at the moment.

Forgive me if I do not share your glee. :)
I'll be there...as soon as I work out how to get there from my hotel
Wow, great idea. I wish I could come.
Liz, afraid I have to send regrets. Eat a piece of nigiri for me.
