My son and my sister are Vassar alumni. I didn't make it in. I went to U of Michigan, U of Arizona and did my graduate work at George Mason. Oh well! Your cartoon is great and very apt! Glad I found your blog. I'd give anything to get one of my stories published in the New Yorker! Wouldn't we all?
No matter whether they were born here or not they are working to feed their children. And wishing one child fed so that another goes hungry doesn't make it. All of us anglos are usurpers. Only the native born Americans have any claim here. No one chose where they were born. It is a cosmic accident. Use of this accident to say one group deserves a job and others don't seems a little harsh.
Does it ever occur to anyone that if we stopped outsourcing jobs, we could significantly reduce the jobless rate in America? Sure, we're saving money. But are we really? Considering what is being paid out in unemployment and welfare, would there really be so much difference to hire and pay employees at least minimum wage?
P.S. And oh yeah. Stop paying illegal aliens and giving them all the privileges of legal citizens. Let them EARN the right to become a citizen of the U.S.
The US ia way too large to operate effectively as a democracy. My take is that the population limit for a democracy is 100,ooo million max, and that's being generous.
liza, you just need to go to your 'manage blog comments' link and delete the ads. It's all you can do to get rid of them. There is no way to prevent them.
Wow, your cartoons in the New Yorker. Wow wow wow. I've been a subscriber for years and have dreamed for decades of having my poetry in it. Gotta publish in a book first, I think.

(I'm puzzled why you got so many ads in your comments though.)
