How bad is the climate change situation, really? A whole bunch of scientists and other climate change interested parties are set to convene in Copenhagen next week for the COP15 climate conference, where representatives from government agencies, energy consortiums, new-age manufacturers and environmentalists will try to sort it all out and -- for many of them -- figure out how to make a buck off it all in the coming years.
An interesting development few probably considered however, means some of the real heat may be going down in the Danish capital's famous brothels, where Copenhagen's legal sex industry has decided COP15 delegates will be able to sample the merchandise for free.
As reported by Der Speigel, Copenhagen Mayor Ritt Bjerregaard sent postcards to city hotels warning summit guests not to patronize Danish sex workers during the upcoming conference. Now, the prostitutes have struck back, offering free sex to anyone who produces one of the warnings.
According to the report, the move was organized by the Sex Workers Interest Group (SIO).
"This is sheer discrimination. Ritt Bjerregaard is abusing her position as Lord Mayor in using her power to prevent us carrying out our perfectly legal job. I don't understand how she can be allowed to contact people in this way," SIO Spokeswoman Susanne Møller told avisen.dk.
No one in the world's oldest profession has ever been known for giving out freebies, so this can only mean relations between Copenhagen's local government and its sex workers are at an all-time low, or there may be more to this Global Warming thing than many have previously thought.

does the mayor think the delegates won't be concentrating on their duties? or does she fear any large influx of foreigners would raise public health concerns...
since this will have zero effect on the sex industry, save possibly raising traffic briefly, one can only conclude the mayor must own a brothel. she would not be the first.

I told you those photos were just for YOU!

My dear monsieur Chariot ~ I cannot believe OS does not have a Copenhagen correspondent liveblogging the COP15 proceedings as we speak. It's important to know just how far the industry freebie extends and to be kept abreast of the mounting dangers of climate change up-to-the-minute.
@TC if one of those Danish delights bit me I'd be very upset, even if she wasn't making me pay for the privilege.

(thumbified for free anything - especially free everything)
I don't know why, but as I read your post, I found myself remembering that letter from so long ago, and wondering if the Mayor perhaps wanted to draw attention to his city's trade in an acceptable way and thought that people would probably “decide for themselves” if only they knew.
