The Pages are my Friends

a poem by Barrett Smith, age 12

Barrett's inkwell photo

My pen slides along the pages
As they absorb the ink
Taking in my words
Never to forget
These words I write are the truth
The things never to be spoken
These pages I can trust
They never spread, they never smudge
They know every secret in my heart
And never once betrayed my trust
I watch the black ink fade to grey
Why can’t people be this way?

By the way, that is NOT her in the photo. It's one she found and photo-shopped or something like it to superimpose the inkwell.
Is that your daughter? She has a lot of talent. Lovely Poem, Barrett.
Just a beautiful poem and image. Whoever she is (your daughter?), she's very talented and clearly thinks deep thoughts. Good for her.
Sally & Michael, thank you for your kind comments.

yes, Barrett is my daughter. Her writing shows her deep and emo (in the parlance of youth) side. We try to keep it in the context of her general happy go lucky side.
Wonderful poem, for any age writer. And the writer is..........?

Monte
pretty impressive for a 12 year old!
very nice, indeed. your daughter?
That is lovely. Your daughter has much talent.
Monte, Denise, m.a.h., & Dorinda - thank you all so much for visiting. I'm glad she has opportunities to share her writing. And further glad that all those hours reading to her as a little girl may have actually left an impression.
