It Was 40 Years Ago Today

Rate: 6 Flag

It was 40 years ago today that the world lost Jimi Hendrix. He was known as the "Big Bang of Rock and Roll"--he burst onto the scene and then was gone. Just wanted to remember him this morning in all his glory.

A flame so bright it could only live a short while.

Jimi Hendrix's created a new a language for guitar and was the first to incorporate feedback. He was both profound AND popular. I have much more to say but I'm just gonna listen instead. Thanks, lschmoppie
I am having a hard time getting my rate to stick here. I'm gonna keep trying. Btw, that should read Jimi Hendrix (not Hendrix's) ...
Scarlett: Thanks for stopping by. I debated whether to write a big piece on him or not. This morning I just felt simple was better.
He is still on my IPOD..loved him..he was legend for sure, thanks for this.
My VERY favorite song..forgot to say!!
Cindy: Glad it brought you some pleasure today. Another reason I love this song is because Joe is my son's name, he lives 7 hours away, and I think of him everytime I hear it.
Wow, 40 years. I remember this happening when I was a kid, growing up in a music obsessed household. I always think of the 4 key rock music deaths between 69-71: Brian Jones, Jimi, Janis, and Jim Morrison.

It was also the 33rd anniversary of Marc Bolan's passing 2 days ago, a marker for me as a big T. Rex fan. Time flies ....
Thanks for posting the anniversary of one of the all-time greatest musicians in rock history. I was in seventh grade and was already a fan. It was a one-two punch with Janis' death just over two weeks later (October 4, 1970). Ironically they were both 27 and even more ironic was the fact that seemed to be the "going" age for rock musicians that passed away in that era. Just a few years later, Jim Morrison would meet his maker at that very same age.

Gone but hardly forgotten.

"Excuse me while I kiss the sky"
For those who do use movie torrents, there are some excellent documentaries (BBC especially) available on the man as he flamed brilliantly above our horizons.

VA:When I typed in 40 years ago it felt hard to believe that much time ahs passed. A sign, I'm sure, of my own aging process.

Steven: The succession of deaths was horrific. I often wonder what those musicians would have accomplished had they sidestepped the Grim Reaper.

Mark: I visted the EMP in Seattle--a superior Hendrix collection. If you ever get the opportunity to go, do so. You won't be disappointed.
