Thanks for the pass-along. ePriddy also let me know about blogspotting to do this (just use the Search box above and key on either Blogspotting or Roving Reader).
Thanks for the contact info and historical link LT.

Current recreations of the sinking of the Fitzgerald indicate she suffered a shallow grounding just before catestrophic flooding when she was struck by a rougue wave in 50-75mph wind and 35ft seas.

The Antalina is facing much higher winds and is being driven into shallow water. Her inability to adjust course or heave to make her predicament dire.
Thanks for the tip.

Amazing how easy it is to link back to another era, or another century, when dealing with the power of the sea. I'll hoist one tonight, and say a prayer after listening to "Donegal Danny" a few times.
It just angers me that the Coast Guard has known about this problem since 4 AM. They had the time to do something and instead sat on their hands.

Calling the Commandant's Office is the right thing to do -- trust me. I spent years working on admiral's staffs. The Commandant is the only one with the power to make something happen and he is also not on the scene involved with nitty gritty work - so the calls might get action, but won't disturb rubber meets the road personnel.

Now I understand the ship is being sucked further out to sea and into the center of the storm -- which is very bad for the crew.
Thank you very much for the post. I can never listen to that song (we heard Gordon Lightfoot performing it live in Minneapolis over thirty years ago) without tears in my heart, if not my eyes. I am thankful that the Antalina and her crew survived
no cake - just checked and the crew okay, yay
