Chris Matthews: The guy who will RULE our country

Rate: 13 Flag

I'm watching MSNBC and Todd is rapping with Matthews about the comedic routines and stylings of Senators McCain and Obama and Matthews actually said RULE when describing Senator McCain and Senator Obama.  As in one of these two guys will RULE the country.

Yes, evidently the president RULES now.

Interestingly, Matthews backtracked a few seconds later to amend that it could be a gal next time around, but did not correct RULE.

I was under the impression our president leads and governs.  Kings, emperors, emirs and shah's RULE.

If I can get a Youtube of it, I'll post it later.

You rule, LT. Oh, wait-- :-)
He's been listening too much to Bush and Cheney.

Bill S--what's with the new picture? You feeling devilish today? It's so not you. It's good to be bad every once in a while.
Hi LT - Check this out "Why Cult of Presidency is Bad
for Democracy" by David Sirota

I love how you stay on top of things
MTK, Bill explained the make over in the troops marching into the classroom thread which is where the advance Halloween planning is happening if you want to join in discussing my most favorite of all days.

Rob St Amant, Hah! Sorry about putting an e where the a belongs yesterday. I often fail to proof before posting.

Bill S, I am still shaking me head. No sign on YouTube yet.
Well, Matthews has such a man-crush on Obama (is it still within those confines, you think?) that I think it was more of a sophomoric "rulez!!!!1" than a political comment. :-P
DakiniDancer, I am not much into cults of any kind and I think both candidates have their overly fervent supporters. Thank you for the link. I agree with the point Sirota makes concerning local elections and gearing up right now to meet with some of my neighbors who are joining me in block walking for Lt Col Noriega before Texas early voting begins. I may not be invested in the Presidential election this year, but I sure am pulling to kick Cornyn out of the senate.

RickyB, I get the humor and did chuckle, but the comment made in complete seriousness and was directed to both Senator Obama and Senator McCain as in (I paraphrase):

It was great to watch them get up and be funny considering one of the two of them would be the guy who would rule the country.
Rule is a synonym for command... wait for it... commander in chief... synonymous with ruler in chief... hence, perfectly legit use of the word.

I refuse to let you pick on Matthews. We just lost Timmy Russert and we need all the good humored, good hearted history buffs and red faced political geeks we can get :)
Rule? Chris Matthews is so yesterday's world...
Lyndsey, I agree. Hands off Chris Matthews. I do sometimes wish he'd let others get a word in. But Chris is consistently witty, smart, and he pushes for answers from the talking heads who try to stick to the talking points.

He even got Arnie Vinnick to answer his question about judges!!
Not even that loudmouth bully O'Reilly picks on Chris Matthews...who would pick on this guy?

At a time when politicians are dividing this country into the "American" and "Anti-American" the last thing we need is more division.

Matthews is Russert, he's a good natured, curious and thoughtful which is a far cry from the Hannities of the world assaulting people.
Well, afterall, we have been "ruled" by King George and his Disciples the last eight years... I can see how Matthews could get confused. Let's go back to a Democracy and then all will be forgotten.
Hannity, Coulter, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, I suppose they've never made a mistake in their mind? They are "attack dogs". Matthews is VERY light-hearted and I love it when he and Pat Buchanan lock horns. They go at each other and in the end, always laugh about it. That's what it's about. Being able to agree to disagree. This Michele Bachmann (R) from Minnesota got what she was asking for yesterday from Matthews. Spewing lies and hatred and "Un-American" rhetoric like a member of The Alaskan Independent Party. Oh, sorry, no that would be Todd and Sarah Palin...
Chris Matthews rule our Country?? In his dreams. MSNBC's ratings are so low and it is because it's Editor won't reel in Matthew and Olberman. Not only does the guest have to agree with them, they both are so rude and always thinks their funny...and their not!!

I'm an adult and I can think for myself..I don't need their BIAS opinions!!!! They don't care what they say..especially if it isn't true. They both just think everyone is just going to believe them..
I DON'T THINK SO!!!
I just want to hear honesty and unbias info about the subjects and then I'm old enough to make my own decision.
I no longer watch MSNBC and have written the Editor many times stated why. No one at MSNBC cares because their EGO'S are to big.
Matthews is Russert? Blasphemy.

Russert was much more even-handed, thorough, and frankly, less shrill (according to politicos, I'm not supposed to say "shrill" concerning a man, but it's true). I am a huge supporter of Barack Obama, but I find Matthews' pie-eyed schoolboy crush on the man a little nauseating.

As far as "rule," if Dubya's peeling away at the Constitution were to go any further, Matthews' choice of words would be spot-on.
LT,

Astute observation, but as others have said, that is basically what the current administration has attempted to create; a sort of monarchy.

I don't see that either Matthews or Russert are worthy of so much adoration. They both contributed mightily to the Bush regime's propaganda campaign, and Matthews has a long way to go to make up for that. Obviously, Russert is unable to do so.

You don't really think that kings rule, do you? In Morocco, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, yes. In Western countries, though, this hasn't been true in my lifetime, and I'm middle-aged. Come to think of it, this isn't true in Asia either, except in Brunei and Bhutan.

You're showing your age if you even remember real kings that rule, LT.
