I have been here, oh my, 2 or 3 years and in that time I have seen my youngest daughter wed and have my first beautiful granddaughter. I have seen a son join the Navy and fly away and I have buried my oldest son. This makes two sons I have lost and right now the world seems unfair and harsh but someday I will smile again and remember the good times more than the bad. Did I mention the alcoholic husband who has been in the hospital three times near death...it makes me wonder much about why some live, yet don't, and some die who are just starting to live. Out of 6 children I still have 4 and they are the light of my life....

A Gift from a Friend

Rate: 49 Flag

Algis Kemezys had offered me the most incredible gift, he would do a sculpture for my son.  I mentioned to him my first husband did a version of this so he suggested I do a post. I have been staring at the pictures he sent me for days now and this is where they have led me.

My first husband used to leave rock markers everywhere he went, there is an old bridge no longer used right off the side of one of our many back roads and he always left his mark there. To this day the rocks still magically appear sometimes.

Whenever I see these rock formations I also see my husband with his staff standing beside them proud of the mark he is leaving behind. Knowing I would understand he had been there.

But I could find no other words to fit the majesty of the gift I have been given so instead of sitting here worrying about this coming through perfect I am using another's words to find my way.

The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.

Kahlil Gibran

When you are sorrowful, look again in your heart, and you shall see that, in truth, you are weeping for that which has been your delight.

Kahlil Gibran

Sadness is but a wall between two gardens.

Kahlil Gibran

Joy and sorrow are inseparable... Together they come, and when one sits alone with you at your board, remember that the other is asleep upon your bed.

Kahlil Gibran (1883 - 1931)

And forget not thet the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the wind longs to play with your hair.

Kahlil Gibran (1883 - 1931)

Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding. Even as the stone of the fruit must break, that its heart may stand in the sun, so must you know pain. And could you keep your heart in wonder at the daily miracles of your life, your pain would not seem less wondrous than your joy; And you would accept the seasons of your heart, even as you have always accepted the seasons that pass over your fields. And you would watch with serenity through the winters of your grief.

Kahlil Gibran (1883 - 1931)

This last picture, if I had to pick a favorite, would be the one I would choose. I can see my son standing tall through it watching over us all until we meet again.

Thank you so very much my friend for the most incredible gift one could ever receive.

What beautiful photos and what an incredible gift. R
Wow! I love those photos. That is an incredible sculpture. See what you inspire in us all LL. Take your pain and run with it.
A beautiful tribute.
Beautiful. What a friend we have in Algis. Gibran's words are comforting, too. Wise and tender.
Like a beautiful garden needs rain LL.
You list the words of deep wisdom here.
Let them nourish your soul and give thanks.
Such a deep thinking tribute dear. And Algis, a soul that sees beauty daily in all.
Yes!!
Lovely. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Beautiful - pictures - words - gift
How wonderful...somehow these bring to my mind the Heavens Gates they have all over Japan. What a thoughtful thing to do.
What a nice gift. You couldn't go wrong with your choice.
A wonderful gift and beautiful words to accompany it.
How beautiful and generous. The words of Gibran are so poignant and the rock sculptures - including those of your husband - are so very unique and wonderful.
I'll be returning again and again to the beauty of the words, the photos and the gift in this post.
Lovely and so precious.
Algis is one of the nicest people I have met on OS and the man is a genius. Looking at his photo's never fail to brighten my day, and his gift will be with you always.

Truly beautiful and an incredible gift. -R-
Speaking of gifts from friends!
I received one this week, a wonderful set of cd’s certain to straighten out my spiritual situation once I get done taping them from CD to, do not laugh, cassette tape…see, I have a, please do not snigger, vintage SONY WALKMAN I got at a tag sale, and this is my version of mp3 or cd player…

I cannot express the gratitude I feel to this fine friend enough…

Speaking of gifts, I got K. G’s “the prophet” from my everloving hippy sister about 20 yrs ago, and treasure it…

Say not, "I have found the path of the soul."
Say rather, "I have found the soul walking upon my path."
For the soul walks upon all paths.
The soul walks not upon a line,
neither does it grow like a reed.

The soul unfolds itself,

like a lotus of countless petals…..KB
That's really fabulous. Algis and LL2, that's about the best monument I've ever seen.
Lunch Lady - I haven't read Gibran in 45 years. Thanks for giving me the gift again.

Thank you all I was so happy to read that I chose the right path for this wonderful gift I was given. They seemed to go together so well and I tried so hard to fit each picture with the right words. I enjoyed this so much so thanks to you all for reading and enjoying with me.
The words of the poet combined with the sculpture are so moving. What a wonderful friend Algis is!
LL2, you are the beneficiary of two of my favorite people: Khalil Gibran and Algis Kemezys . Both bring us great things of beauty and wisdom. How nice.

Beautiful images and words calming to the soul

Funny thing, I was just reading Gibran...the one you included: "Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding..." I have found that acknowledging the pain is freeing and sharing it can be helpful to self and others. Thanks for this.
Just beautiful, words and images, you are so right about the last photo. What an incredible sculpture and what a beautiful gift. There are so many wonderful people on OS.
This is wonderful wonderful...generous, compassionate, grace-filled friendship. The photos are amazing and make me wish I would come across these when walking here in Northern Illinois. As for Gibran, I always find copies of the Prophet to give my students for graduation in the spring. ...Algis is a treasure...so, ll, are YOU. A lovely share this is ! rr
A wonderful gift, indeed! I am grateful, for your sake, and grateful to you for sharing it.
You are special people in this world, to share such gifts and words!
Tears are lurking in my eyes.....
Thank you all for the comments, I look forward to a time when I can answer each and every one of you back but for now know I am reading and appreciating each comment. I now have these beautiful pictures as my wallpaper on my screen at work. Somehow they calm me and I love that.
A magnificent gift from Algis. I also adore Kahlil Gibran's verses. The entire presentation leaves one breathless.

Algis, your comment this morning made me cry, not in a sad way but in an I am not really alone way. Second born the trouble child most of my attention as a child was for being bad, I knew I was loved but felt unlovable. I don't feel so much like that any more and I thank you again for your wonderful gift truly hoping I did it justice with the words I attached. I am placing it on my links so I and others can come back at any time and find it.
Gorgeous . . . what a gift, what a gift . . .
I love this! -- the beautiful photos AND the wonderful words you chose to accompany the pictures. A perfect gift, remembering our Joey.
Gorgeous post. Nicely done. Solace can be found all through it.
How kind of Algis!!
Kahlil Gibran had so many wise things to say...I'm glad he is still as well-known as he is.
this is indeed a beautiful gift. algis is a wonderful artist.

T, I am so sorry. I just read about your loss in today's post.
I'm the mother of sons....I weep with you.
Hi Lunchlady 2, thank you so much for sharing the deepest thoughts of your heart and for wanting to encourage others. Every time I watch a video of yours like this it has me in floods of tears. It softens my heart towards the man who is causing me the greatest heartache and suffering as I raise my young boy on my own. Like you so many times I am so tired, I don't want to face another day, I wake up begging God to help me live, but you are helping me realise there are people out there with far greater needs and helping me understand that God wants us to help them, to bring Christ's love to them. I pray that we will start doing that in our church. Thank you for your courage and it really ministers to me, thank you. Cheapest Auto Insurance In Florida
