At the Small Book making class last week, Ronda and Teresa talked about sharpie dyeing.  Since I’m all about dyeing, I just had to try it. I thought I’d try dyeing a stylish colorful visor to wear during this hot summer.

Wow! How easy and fun! If you’ve never tried this technique, all you need are a few supplies:

• Something to paint. I found this visor at Joann’s for $1.99.
• Sharpie Markers – broad tip
• Rubbing Alcohol -70%
• spray bottle or dropper
• work surface covered with plastic

Once you have your work surface ready, paint the visor or other cloth with Sharpies.

Continue to paint until you are happy with your design. Leave space between colors so they can spread when you apply the alcohol.

Now the fun comes. Add alcohol via a spray bottle or dropper. Be sure to do this part in an open, ventilated area. I worked in the garage with the door open.

As you continue to add alcohol, the marker will spread. When you are happy with your results, stop and allow to dry. Once dry, iron to heat set.

This is a great activity for the kiddos and big kids. I see more Sharpie projects in my future.
