Disney Princesses Meet The Real World

I encourage all of you to go over to JPG Magazine and check out this brilliant photo essay by Dina Goldstein entitled "Fallen Princesses." In it, Goldstein uses models to simulate the intersection of the real world with the idea of a fairy tale princess. Here's a sample shot from the series:

In the article, Goldstein notes:
"As a young girl, growing up abroad, I was not exposed to Fairy tales. These new discoveries lead to my fascination with the origins of Fairy tales. I explored the original brothers Grimm's stories and found that they have very dark and sometimes gruesome aspects, many of which were changed by Disney. I began to imagine Disney's perfect Princesses juxtaposed with real issues that were affecting women around me, such as illness, addiction and self-image issues"
Check it out. Simply amazing (the Rapunzel one is particularly haunting).

Red Riding Hood isn't a Disney character!

And I would have liked to see Belle standing out on the street corner, being treated by an ambulance crew while The Beast is drug off in handcuffs by the cops. As I say "Once a beast, always a beast".
Just plain awesome, thanks for sharing.
Jasmine is hot. That's all I have to say about that.
Wow! This is really cool! I'll take a look! Congrats on the EP!
Original and provocative.
I found that site a couple of weeks ago. It's fantastic. That pic you chose to represent the series is my favorite. It sums up the whole reason why I cringe everytime I see a kid in a princess costume, especially my own.
Wow, my heart rate is has increased. Thanks for sharing.
Loved the Sleeping Beauty shot on the site. Not as haunting as the others, but just as memorable with a bit of macabre humor tossed in for effect.
Thanks for sharing, very disturbing because they are so true.
Right now I'm as sad as I've ever been.

Except for right now.
I've always wondered what happened in "happily ever after." This is a great link -- and I recently was questioning why almost all the villains are evil mother figures. Is that why it's so difficult for women to get alone?
Wonderful - thanks for bringing it to our attention.
Little Red Riding Hood, while not done specifically as a movie by Disney, has nevertheless been done by Disney. I forget if it was an animated classics short or part of one of their mish-mosh films like Mickey's Rolicking Adventure (or whatever that one where they put Mickey into 4 or 5 different fairy tales is called). At any rate, they have done Red Riding Hood.
