I am writing this as I realize tomorrow is the grand American Thanksgiving and animals do embarrassing things when you have guests. I love my dogs. All three of them. What they do when no one is around does not bother me…but when there is company it can be excruciating.

Dieting Makes You Fat

Dieting is probably the worst thing you can do if you want to lose weight. I’m not talking about wanting to lose 5 lbs to get into your swimsuit. You’re not fat. I’m talking about folks who need to lose 20 or more pounds. You will eat carrot sticks and celery,… Read full post »

Do NOT laugh

I have to get up at 6 in the morning to get my goddamned winter tires on. If ANY of you west coast people laugh, you are dead meat. And I will find you.

An Idiot's Guide To Canadian Politics

Now, I don’t mean to imply that you are all idiots, but there is a  a fair amount of disinterest in Canadian politics among many Americans. We know a lot about your fair land and even cheered and cried when you elected your last President. I bet the majority of Americans… Read full post »

Hello fellow bloggers. I would like those of you who are kind enough to visit my blog, to know I haven't quit, just away for a few days. Hopefully I'll have something interesting to say when I get back.

Thanks again for being supportive.

Think Again About E-books

The latest thing in gadgetry is the e-reader and e-book. Whether it be Amazon’s Kindle or the Sony reader and I’m sure as I write another brand has come out for yet another company or bookstore. They are handy little things. Stick them in your purse, or briefcase, and you can/…

Bad TV I Hate

CSI- Las Vegas premiered in 2000 and has remained one of the most popular shows on network TV. We also now have CSI: New York and the reprehensible (thank you David Caruso) CSI:Miami. All bad and unbelievable. Yes, I know it's TV, but please give us a modicum of reality.

A Smoker's Tale

If you smoke these days, you are relegated to front porches when visiting friends and stepping outside restaurants a certain distance. Pariahs. Now I personally think this is a good idea – if smoking is made more difficult, then some people will say ‘to hell with it, I’m sick of sta… Read full post »

How I Found, By Chance, That I Was At Risk for Breast Cancer

There’s been a lot of breast posts lately, and rightly so. Whether it be breast feeding or breast cancer, our breasts can be our friend or foe.

I am adopted, and although not obsessed with finding my bio-mom, wanted to know all the family’s medical history (my bio-dad seems to be… Read full post »

Coffee Anyone?

Coffee, coffee, coffee. Hardly any of us goes through our day without a cup o’ joe. As we wake up sleepy and crusty eyed, the first thing we think of (with some desperation) is ‘COFFEE!’. We drink what we can at home, on the road, and certainly lord knows how many… Read full post »

I guess I’m just not that political. Don’t get me wrong – I read the Salon articles on US politics, just to keep informed (I’m Canadian – bet you guys don’t read our news) but I don’t really understand some of the ins and outs. I had to have some of… Read full post »

I don't usually post more than once in a day, but this one sent me over the edge.

The news today is that a 15 year old girl was raped repeatedly outside the building where her homecoming dance was being held. She was raped for three hours. Even worse, she gathered… Read full post »

Friends - The Real Ones

I know lots of people who have ‘gangs’ of friends. You know the kind that go out and hang together, party together, roast wieners together. I’m just not like that. I used to have a gang when I was younger, but to tell the truth, there was at least one or two… Read full post »

Satan Gets A Bad Rap

Everyone grew up believing that Satan was the epitome of evil. But what if he was just misunderstood? He has some really neat names other than Satan : Beelzebub (my personal favorite), Belial, The Devil (very unoriginal), The Beast (how hurtful is that?) and Lucifer (some of you might find… Read full post »

The Grinches That Steal Hallowe'en

Hallowe’en is on the way, and little ones are deciding whether to be a Ninja or Spiderman. It’s a cute tradition as Princesses, Xena, Batman and a few ghouls arrive at the door, exhibiting childhood greed. We give out handfuls because we figure if they are brave enough to make it… Read full post »

Psychotropics - Brain Food

I find on Salon a number of people who suffer from depression or some kind of anxiety/depression disorder and many, many bipolars, both I and II.  I’m not sure why – maybe it has to do with creativity – maybe it’s a coincidence. Maybe we're just obsessed with telling peop/… Read full post »

When is Rape, Not Rape

I love my stepdaughter. She’s beautiful (looks like Angelina Jolie), is kind (a bit self absorbed but what 27 year old isn’t) and I care for her welfare.

Well, it's finally turkey time. A short post just to wish the Canadians in the group a Happy Frobisher day (thank you JLee). We've found some 'orphans' who had nowhere to go, so it will be less than the usual (most of Kathy's big family has cleverly planned trips - but it's… Read full post »

This Weekend is Canadian Thanksgiving - Yawn.

This weekend is Thanksgiving for  us Canadians. It doesn’t mean much to me. I mean, in Canada we didn’t have Pilgrims and native people chasing wild turkeys around and having a grand feast. We’re just supposed to, well…give thanks. I give thanks all the time and d/… Read full post »

The Acadian Flag 'Stella Maris' (Star of the Sea)
