UPDATE ON ARNOLD AND HIS JOB HUNTING
My Commentary on Business Now
Arnold
Arnold started looking for a job the end of February. In June he started to get interviews Between February and June he must have sent off 400 applications, resumes, and taken about 12 tests of some kind. In June he went on a couple of interviews. In July he got hired by a granite company. The job was to sell granite for home interiors to home owners. He was not thrilled with the job because he worked in a warehouse that was hot. However, there was an opportunity to make good commissions. Arnold saw the sales figures and they were impressive. Arnold started on Thursday. He and the other new hiree was sent home around 3PM on Thursday as it was not busy. The week end is the busy time. On Friday Arnold came home around noon. He was fired. The manager called him into his office. The manger said, “The HR guy is here. This is not working out.” When Arnold pressed the manager all he would say was it is not working out.
Arnold freaked out. He immediately went to see a mental health professional. He got a prescription for anti depressants and anti anxiety medication. He is still unemployed. He has not had an interview since two weeks ago. Things look bleak for finding a job and being in good mental health.
My personal opinion on all of this is that we the citizens are being held hostage by a very ignorant group of people. These people are in control of our destiny. Work is no longer a place to contribute your skills, enthusiasm and time. It is no longer a safe place to meet and befriend your co workers. You never know who or when you will be stabbed in the back. The work environment is set up by your corporate employer. You are pressed to take sides at the drop of the hat and to be forced to pick sides. Your choice is to be loyal to your boss or risk joining the job pool of the depressed and anxious.
It just boggles my mind that the captains of industry are the ones that crashed the economy. They are also the ones that are rewarding themselves and each other. Second to them is our law makers that were partying with the lobbyists. It was a heady time. Now it is over and the damage is done. We are numb. It has been going on for so long that we have accepted it. It is so easy to not look too carefully when your life is on an endless shopping spree like Paris Hilton. Then one day you find out you are not Paris.
