Election Day Salsa: ¡Obamonos!

Rate: 9 Flag

Something on-topic for the day but guaranteed stress-free: getcho groove on with this music video performance of the song "Respondele a Obama" by Brooklyn funkmaster José Conde and his band Ola Fresca. I don't often get a chance to blog on my favorite passion besides the purely visual, which is music in all its forms. Full disclosure: I was a DJ for nearly a year with freeform radio station WFMU back in the late 80s and have only very basic conga-playing skills. But I know a good clave when I hear one, and José esta cocinando con gas.

Favorite word of the day is now Obamonos. A very rough translation would be "Let's Obamify" and it rhymes with vamonos, as in, "let's go"— to the polls!

video directed by Nicole Betancourt, performed by José Conde (download the tune for free at José's MySpace Page for blasting at your Election Watch party!)

Thanks to old buddy (and best man) John Schettino for sending this my way!

I wish I'd come up with that word months ago! And here I am in the branding biz. Sheesh.
Oh yeah, I am now dancing in my office...amidst all the statistical analyses for my very IMPORTANT LIVE BLOGGING FROM BOULDER, I am dancing. Right now. Barefoot in my office. Great song.
!Vabanos Obamanos Si!

Great tune!
Obamanos most awesome.
My favorite line is:

Hasta mi madre Republicana
Esta votando para Obama

Even my Republican Mama
is gonna cast a vote for Obama
SWEET! Let's see how far Babelfish and two years of sleeping through high school Spanish can get me...

(Concedo mi pulgar honorable como símbolo de la voluntad. ¡Su blog es hoy excelente, y José Conde es casi tan hermoso como usted, Marco!)
"... esta cocinando con gas" indeed! First time I've ever seen that rendered into Spanish; I had to laugh.

I think I'm getting giddy. OBAMANOS!!
My parrot digs it, too. He's singing along as we speak ;D
Susan— I used to have a parakeet who danced to music! I love oldschool slang like "cookin' with gas." I mourn the loss of old New York lingo, like what you'd hear in old Abbott and Costello movies:
"Willya geta load 'o' dat!"
"Ya don't hafta tell me twice, bruddah."
"Scram! Why I oughta..."

Jodi: su pulgar si es honorable. Gracias. Y by the way: *blush*
I'm playing this again...I swear Marco...I love this song...dancing in my office again...a margarita would be nice...
A margarita or a mojito. Actually.... hmmmm
Seriously, this guy Conde is good. I was listening to his other tunes on his MySpace page. Recommended.
Me gusta!! Vamanos a baile! ( that's about it for my rough Espanol) Ah Marco, I lived for several years in PR with my latina lover. (ah, yes a tale for another day) This brings back many happy memories.....
Si, se puede! Muchas gracias, Marco - es magnifico. Obamanos, por seguro, por siempre.
Did you know they have bumper stickers for this?!?
How great to be able to play the hell out of this tune today and not have to cross your fingers anymore?

BE.CAUSE. HE. WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cherie: your latina lover in PR story sounds like a post. I'm just sayin.
Marco - it is quite story, with funny and significant moments - there's a small part of that story here - a mostly lost post from back in the days (not so long ago!) when I first started on OS
I enjoyed the music and the beat. My husband Steve, who grew up in Miami FL, heard "Hialeah" mentioned in the song, which I hadn't noticed. I sent a link to this to our older son in college, who is a Biology & Spanish double major, and here's what he had to say, "¡que fantástco! Me encanté. I definitely agree that ¡Obamanos! is by far the best word that I've heard in a long time.
james"

Paws up.
