Since the Obama Administration will stand for change, they should signal this message through their choice of White House pup. I think they should adopt an Alaskan wolf pup orphaned by one of Governor Palin's sniper copters. Too much for Sasha and Malia to handle, you say? Posh. Jefferson kept a pair of grizzly bears at the White House and John Adams kept a live alligator.

UPDATE: in response to LT Bohica's comment below, I propose a wolf hybrid pup, not only because one might be more White House appropriate, but mostly because I found this cute video of a howlin' hybrid on YouTube:

Excellent idea Marco,......It could call attention to the brutal practice of "Denning" (allowed by Palin's adminstration)where they kill the pups after tracking the parent to the den.
Maybe the pup should be named Denny!
If raised correctly wolf pups can be great, but they are not for first timers and are not an appropriate animal for the very public environment that is the White House.

Look at what happened with poor Barney today. The last thing I would want is for a puppy/wolf to be put down due to too many bites.

There are also those who are dead against wild animals being removed from their natural environment. It would be a huge controversy.

I realize you are trying to score a political point with your pick for first puppy, but not a good idea in reality.
LT, I wouldn't go anywhere near a loose wolf, no matter how old young or domesticated (mostly because I was emotionally scarred at five years old by a nasty-tempered chihuahua). This post is most definitely tongue-in-cheek. But what happened to Barney? I didn't hear...
Awwww!

Cute, but they do grow up. Not even a wolf-hybrid would be suitable for the White House. Too many people, too assertive a dog.
It is on the front page. A reporter approached him incorrectly and got nipped. I've seen the video half a dozen times on the news tonight. Poor Barney.
LT—
yes, I saw the video. Jeez, if some reporter harassed my dog and then reached for him I'd so kick his ass. Poor Barney indeed. He looked miserable.
Ha ha, someone on MSNBC said he didn't care which breed the Obamas picked, as long as they named it "Maverick." That would be a pretty awesome name on an Alaskan hybrid.
Great pictures. Bill Maher did a great piece about people's opinion on the puppy Obama should pick. Our new national obsession.
marytkelly, I chuckling today that my contribution to the obsession was prescient in it's use of mixed breed and mutt re Senator Obama, considering his joke the other day about being a mutt.

Being obsessed with the first puppy is better than beating on some poor female celebrity. Dogs are so very wonderful.
