Finally, some good news from Detroit

Rate: 7 Flag

The Detroit Red Wings are heading to the Stanley Cup finals! The team won 2-1 in overtime after a great game Wednesday against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Michigan in general — and Detroit in particular — needed this bit of good news. Take a minute to send some good vibes in Detroit's direction; the Red Wings are going to need a heap of them as they go up against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the same tough team they faced last year when they won the Stanley Cup.

The first game of the Stanley Cup finals is Saturday.

Yea, Redwings, and MSU made it to the finals, and Chauncey Billups isthisclose to getting back there again. Why, oh why, did the Pistons trade Mr. Bigshot?
Yeah!!! I'm a Detroit transplant. Go Wings!!!
I still scratch my head over the Chauncey Billups thing. That guy is great.

We can't leave the Tigers out of this, either. They're in first place for their division.

Feeling a little hung over from last night's Wingsapalooza. The Penguins are one tough team, so this final round is sure to be a real nail-biter.

If only Michigan's economy was doing as well as its sports teams.
Congratulations from a Boston Bruins fan!
Two words: go Penguins!
Congrats! I was out last night and got home just in time for the OT. Big Pittsburgh/Detroit re-match. My son'll be rooting for Crosby (how can he not, he's eight). But I'll quietly hoping the best for Motor City.
Hi, Juliet. My kid, who's 9, won a Eugevni Malkin jersey in some drawing last year, so he's leaning toward the Penguins, like your son. He told me that the Red Wings won last year, so the Penguins should win this year. This is why we don't let kids vote!
Detroit? Pittsbug?
Ach trouble in the belly,
America has.....

where is the head?

or the heart,
anymore? not washington...

no its in our pride for our
Teams, as it always was..

our group....our kin....

"yo, bro"
Jim,
i sahll say a bried f prayer for your team...um,not pittsburg,?
Thanks to Detroit for kicking Chicago's ass ... as a Flames fan, I owe you one ;-)
absolutely, Go Wings!!! i've been a fan since my preschool teacher got us all hooked (in 1983). and couldn't be more excited to see my boys back in the finals.

as an additional comment, tho Detroit and Michigan have been getting heaps of negative coverage lately, i'd also like to remind that there have always been reasons for positive coverage from the city and the state, but that's not what sells, not what people seek out. it makes me sad to hear people talk about how dead Detroit is, when i see it, live it, every day and appreciate it's life, vitality, culture, etc.
Cheers to the Wings, and Cheers to The D!!
GO REDWINGS

-Logan from Bruinville (F*** The Bruins)
Sorry Maria but I think your Wings are too banged up to repeat. I wrote about it here:

Everyone (except Shadow8 and Travis) – thanks for the good vibes. Go Wings!!!

Halfof42 – Sure, there are positive things happening in Detroit. Didn’t they have the most permits for new housing in the state last year? A wonderful sign, to be sure. But with the economy and Kwame and the sexting and the city council and the schools, well, it’s been a hard round of headlines for the city for quite a while. We need to take our celebrations where we can.

Travis (and Shadow8) -- The Wings made pretty short work this season of two much-younger teams: the Ducks and the Blackhawks. I give the Penguins props, and Crosby and Malkin have had a year to absorb and learn from the spanking the Wings gave them last year. It will be an interesting series, to be sure. We'll talk again.
I wouldn't call what the Wings did "short work." There were three overtime games in this series, and a lucky (or unlucky) bounce here or there and the series could have gone the other way. The Hawks are the youngest team in hockey, and while the Wings are obviously a great team, they are getting older. If you're a Wings fan (or a Pistons fan for that matter) I would familiarize myself with the phrase "last hurrah."
Shadow, I hate to break it to you, but you are in for a big surprise. When Lidstrom comes back we're gonna see a repeat of Malkin's totally dropping off the map in the finals. He had one point in the whole series last year. When Datsyuk comes back it'll be over.

You are confusing old with mature and well-seasoned, something the Penguins still lack.
Travis and Shadow – The Wings did pretty well against the Penguins in last night’s first game of the finals. Especially for a group of old, beat up wheezers. And no OT, to boot!

That said, don’t know how things will go tonight, with so little time to rest. That goes for both teams. It’s a brutal schedule for such a physical game. Yikes!
It's on to Detroit. What a series this has become!

If Datsyuk takes the ice Saturday, the series will go back to the Wings. (It's been like the Penguins playing without Crosby. Actually make that Malkin.) I half expected Datsyuk to play last night.

Go Wings!!!
OK, so I hate the Red Wings (not really hate, just in a sports fan kind of way), but that was a great series.
