Okay, so technically it's not "middle-age"...unless I live past 100 (not impossible, but not likely, either). But I'm a member of the Boomer Generation -- the group that prolonged "the youth movement" damn near into our forties. And now that all of us are over forty, it's likely that we will also freeze-frame our "middle-age" until we croak.
(Sigh) I expected my "mature" years to be so different from my angst-filled youth and early-adulthood. But it's not. I feel like I'm starting all over again.
For one thing, after being married for most of my adult life (albeit to two different men), I'm dating again! Hadn't planned on that. And as I talk about in my stand-up...it's as anxiety-inducing as ever.
As an actress who managed to have a pretty decent ("Hey, aren't you that woman from...") career, I now have to re-invent and re-introduce myself to an entertainment industry that could care less. Never thought I'd launch a stand-up career at my age, but hey...if Phyllis Diller could do it...
Besides, it's The Age of Obama, and I have the audacity of hope.
In fact, the one and only blog I posted here was in support of Michelle Obama against a tirade of ugly e-mails that deluged MORE magazine when she appeared on their cover last November.
Having said my piece, I promptly retired from blogging. But eight months later, I've decided to come our of retirement in support of...ME!
"MOIST!" -- a sex-istential musical comedy I co-wrote and co-star in (with Iona Morris [Trivia note: She's the daughter of Greg Morris, from the 70's hit series, Mission Impossible]) was slated to open Off-Broadway last year...till the economy crashed & burned and we lost our major investor. Watching the Tony Awards last night made my heart ache to be back on the "legitimate" stage again (sans drunks & hecklers).
So, I've decided to blog and tweet and socially network myself into attracting new investors and sponsors...re-connect with fans, build-up a "following" and rebuild my career.
Building a social life will come later.
