L.A. Times columnist Steve Lopez visited Wasilla, AK to find out what it was really like and came away with this vlog posting in which he finds nothing but "strip malls, big box stores, chain restaurants and gigantic churches." He asks:
Do you really want someone in the White House who's been responsible for worse urban planning than we have in Los Angeles??
Lopez is being tongue-in-cheek, but I think it's a fair question. Whoever was in charge of urban (to use the term advisedly) planning in Wasilla -- and the two-term mayor certainly must have had plenty of influence -- their preferences, biases and esthetics are clearly reflected in the depressing place discovered by Lopez.
To put it another way: Do we want someone in the White House who doesn't know any better than to make their town a suburban wasteland?

For all the disparagement of the former mayor of Wassila (now the governor of Alaska), she has not yet slept with the drug addicted wife of her campaign manager, and she has not been seen as wreck like this one www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUb8Xv6m7lU . Than there is the other liberal poster boy from the sophisticated city of LA http://www.laweekly.com/2008-09-11/news/the-all-about-me-mayor/ …. Are you telling me that Palin could do worse than liberal mayors of our two major California cities who aspire to be our next governors?
Architecture is a liberal elite pursuit you know. If you drive around the country there isn't much of it.
After all, Jesus will be back this way soon to take all the RIGHT people back to where they came from, so does any of it matter, really? Jesus was a white GOP voter anyway. Everyone knows that.
