Another OS trick: how many have Favorited you?

Rate: 8 Flag

On Twitter, you have x number of followers, and you follow y others.  But on OS it's not easy to see how many people have "favorited" you.

Here's one way to find at least some of the other OS members who have made you their favorite:
  1. Make sure you have posted a recent entry in your OS blog.
  2. Go to Google.
  3. Type in the query:

            site:open.salon.com "posted by: your_handle"

including the double quotes, but changing your_handle to your OS username.
  4. Hit return.
The results will come up with a bunch of pages of other users whose page has the text "posted by your_handle," where your_handle is your username. The screenshot below shows the top five results I got.

How's it work? The phrase "posted by Mark Pritchard" (in my case) will only appear on a page when it appears in the Updates list on the right side of someone's page. And that only happens when a.) I am a Favorite of that person, and b.)  I have recently posted an entry on my own page.

Neat trick. I've always wondered who else is reading my stuff besides the gang of jackals that I normally roam with.

Thanks for the tip - interesting!
Thanks. Now you've made me even more neurotic.
I don't think I want to know. Content the way it is. TMI?
Oh, what fun...because I don't spend enough time navel gazing and kvetching about my OS world. ;) totally kidding of course.

thanks.
Huh? I got lost!! I can never do those clever tricks.
Heck, guess what, there are almost two pages of Mark Pritchards on Twitter....!!
Ah, a fun new search engine trick. Thanks for sharing.
Interesting. You are very good with search engine tricks.
