Yes, Aaron, it was the post about N. Korea and Iran, and I don't remember the words, but I can assure you they were so nasty and despicable that I probably subconsciously blotted them from my mind.

I felt he was talking sarcastically not literally, and it did cross my mind that it would offend some people. I do agree we should stay out of the business of undermining the sovreignity of other countries and just take care that we have good defenses and a good military..."just in case". Obviously others took it another way. I haven't read lots of Gordon O's stuff. He is not a favorite on my list. But I just read through it and commented on what I felt was the gist of the post. If I was wrong...well then I apologize if it sounded like I would agree with the way he said it, because I don't.

I've been called plenty during my time here, and I know I am way way out on the far left, BUT I've never deleted a comment.

On February 14, I posted GordonO: Another Exemplary Intellectual Coward, which took the man in question to task for deleting comments from his blog. Since then, I have desisted from reading, let alone speaking to what he writes.

I totally miss Bill Beck. GordonO? He could drop dead and I could care less.

Well said Michael. Well said. I wish NO ill will on Gordon, but he could disappear (maybe that's tamer) and I would never notice. Bill leaving was a loss. He's back occasionally but I miss his video collages and well thought out blogs. He and I agree that we don't always agree, but we are civil. Gordon has no civility in him or dignity.

Who made the sage lady the OS critic police. I could give a damn about her comments. Just ship over her ass, and next week she will be someone else.

GordO posted a comment on my blog a while back in which he described torture as "being rude" to detainees. It's there if you want to see it. Anyone who can say something like that with a straight face, and I assure you, he wasn't speaking ironically, cannot be taken seriously.

By the time that I read Gordon's post he had deleted the racist part, but he didn't delete his own contradiction.

WOW! I've been away from the computer for a few days...I'm sorry I missed all of this, or am I? Good for you for your principles and for speaking up for mine as well.

I always tell my students never do anything if you're not willing to sign your name to it. It sounds like my high school students have more principles than Gordon O. To be fare, I've never read his posts, but a comment like the one he left has no defense or validity.

I tend to avoid these situations, but it seems to me that I have seen Gordo taking some heat. I think the difference may lay more in how he and Beck react to it. Beck, apparently, withdrew. Gordo, on the other hand, apparently thrives on it.

But, as I say, I avoid these situations, so I may not have a valid perspective.

I did not withdraw anything. I just will not fight cowards who wear masks and yell dirty names and lie indefinitely. It can't be done effectively on a keyboard. I welcome such attacks in person where I will commence to pounding faces flat.

The real difference is, I dont dress my positions in fancy paper, or deny that I hold them. I stick to the truth as I know it, and understand it, and I acknowledge when someone presents it to me. I dont make ad hominems, and I am willing to put my real chin behind everything that I say. I recognize that it takes conceptual thinking to be moved off of comfortable prejudices, and many of the loud ones here prefer their comfortable prejudices. So no, I did not withdraw anything. But I did learn not to indulge an argument with a cowardly, masked insulter. It's a complete waste of time.

Interesting thread. I have some thoughts but do not want to throw gasoline on an already raging fire regarding GordonO. We have a couple of PMs going now so I will address my thoughts to you there, with one exception on a related issue that gives me some disappointment.

I think that you are a bit harsh on Sage. She is politically naive and is way to the right of most of us here. But it does nobody any good to jump on her integrity as you and Blue have done. I don't think she can compete on the merits with the sharper wits here but she has the right to try. She has never attacked anyone on OS about anything; yet because she is conservative and has some views that we all think are from the stone age many here have treated her pretty shabbily.

You, Mark, and Blue are both friends of mine and we share 99.9% common beliefs on things political. I want to keep those friendships and ask you both to think about what you are really mad at and the issues that you care about, not about whether someone is bright enough, or sharp enough, or whatever, to make it across some arbitrary line to be treated with respect. She has never done a single thing to hurt either of you, and she has apologized more than once where if it had been me I would have suggested it be the other way around.

I’m sorry if you construed my comment as some kind of an insult. It was not intended as such. It was based on my vague and incomplete recollection of the events being addressed in this post; I recall that you did disappear for while after the big ‘dust-up’ about you, but perhaps I just did not see your presence at that time.

Regardless, I think my point may still be valid; I don’t have the impression that you seek out the same kind of interaction on which GordonO seems to thrive. But, again, I may be wrong.

I've had some of my replies deleted, but have yet to delete a reply on my blog.........and I have been called some extremely derogatory names. Although we are in cyberspace, in America we have a First Amendment right to free speech and I respect that, even to my own peril. Some of you lefties upset me, but I will not interfere with your free speech rights.
