1. How can anyone really take Herman Cain seriously as a candidate for the most important job in the country and perhaps the world?

2. What does it really say about the Republican Party that it applauds the death penalty, boos a US soldier who happens to be gay, and increases its donations to a candidate accused by SEVERAL women of sexual misconduct?

3. Follow-up questions for the two above:  Should voters be pre-screened for sanity and minimal borderline intelligence before being allowed to vote, or is it OK if an idiot majority continues to take us all over the cliff?

4. Why isn’t Lindsay Lohan in prison yet, and how much bullshit is the judge willing to have shoveled on the justice system before doing her job and tossing this addicted klepto in the can?

5. Who are these people who actually give a shit about anything the Kardashians do or say?

6. Follow-up to #5 above: Should Kardashniaks be pre-screened for sanity and minimal borderline intelligence before being allowed to be left alone in the dark or raise children?

7. If not Barack Obama in 2012, who?

8.  Is Rick Perry serious or is he really auditioning for his own reality TV show?

9. Should Rick Perry be pre-screened for sanity and minimal borderline intelligence before being allowed to speak in public?

10. Does Anne Curry ever give that phony intensity of hers a rest?

11. Is the Penn State pedophilia scandal enough to get the attention of testosterone-impaired jocks who think a college education means sports are more important than intellectual pursuits?

12. How about Occupy Beverly Hills?

13. Or Occupy the Vatican?

14. Do you think Herman Cain would embrace a company called “Sambo’s Chitlins” as he’d expect me to embrace a name like “Godfather’s Pizza?”

15. If the 2012 presidential race is between Cain and Obama who will US racists vote for?

16. Andy Rooney’s NY Times obit included quotes like “I’ve believed all along that most people are born with equal intelligence, but blacks have watered down their genes because the less intelligent ones are the ones that have the most children. They drop out of school early, do drugs and get pregnant.” He said in an interview on a cable sports show that women had “no business” being sideline television reporters at football games because they did not understand football.” And he wrote that,” I know all about Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, but today’s baseball stars are all guys named Rodriguez to me,” This man died a hero because Walter Cronkite assured the world that he knew Rooney and Rooney “wasn’t a racist.”  So what was he, just your average curmudgeony bigot?

17. If it’s true we are going to get the government we deserve, should we start emigrating now?

18. Where should we go?

19. What part of “we need to make cuts AND increase revenues” to survive as a nation does the so-called “Super Committee” not understand?

20. When we say, “God Help us,” does anyone really think (S)He will?

hmm...questions are a little loaded ;-) but let me see here:
1. people believe the system is so f-cked it "deserves" an outrageously f-cked up candidate
2. The crowd at the Republican debate that booed the soldier and those that donate to the aforementioned Cain aren't technically the party; they're just angry, frightened people who nevertheless don't deserve an ounce of slack
3. I'd rather make voting mandatory; you'd be surprised at the number of otherwise intelligent people who decide not to vote
4. She's entertainment
5. They're mostly young and envious
I'm gonna stop here since these are rhetorical questions: what you're really asking (I believe) is" Is everyone INSANE? I hope that they're not so much insane as too afraid to use the brains that something (insert natural, supernatural or random occurrence here) gave them. This gives me no comfort; but since I'm not convinced it's better in other parts of the world, I alternate between feeble attempts to promote critical thinking and a sweeping, all-encompassing desire to flee to the countryside...
I am going with 13, it provides the most interest. Oh, yeah, and everything Nikki said. Except I am not going to the countryside I am thinking of leaving the country.........thought provoking post. Now if we could just get the idiots to read it. You know the ones I mean.
Is twenty all you could come up with, or can we expect another follow-up post in the near future? I sure hope so, there are some classic ones here alright.

Should be called "20 Rhetorical Questions that will make you smile". You did!! I actually laughed at "Occupy Beverly Hills"....we wish!
This just cracked me up! What a rascal you are.

1. - 3. It occurs to me that people don’t cast votes based upon sound intellectual conclusions, but strictly on how they feel. The Republicant’s are out to destroy government by “starving the beast”.

4. The whole reality show phenomena completely escapes me.

5. Lindsey Lohan’s treatment is just more evidence that the justice system is broken too. Who borke all this stuff?

6. - 7. The same people who love Parah Salin.

8. I wouldn’t care if Obama was a Cyclop riding a unicorn, I’d vote for him before I’d vote for the Republicans.

9. If you ask me, Rick Perry is Texas and he’s serious.

10. Not even

11. And who do you think knows about that with Cain, the Kardashians and Lindsay in the news?

12. - 13. What?! That’s entertainment.

14. Anyone who thinks it’s okay for people to call him “Cornbread” wouldn’t mind one bit.

15. Cain - the Black White supremacist.

16. He and Pat Buchanan…I never quite understood the appeal.

17. - 18. I’ve been weighing the option but figure out where to go.

19. Neither

20. We also say “God helps those who themselves”. Can it be both?

Sorry for the incomplete answers. I’m on the run, but I had to answer. This made my day.
RATED!!!
You pass the sanity test quite nicely.
#4: the judge has remanded LL to jail with some frequency but she keeps getting released b/c of overcrowding. At the last hearing, he actually said "if jail had any meaning in California, that's where you would be." But it does not for a loser such as LL, so he has to try to think of some alternative that is enforceable and useful.
Thanks to all of you for your great reactions and ANSWERS....
I think if we don't laugh we shall all go totally insane...Stay tuned for the next Cain accuser's press conference today at 1:30 EDT....
Interesting and amusing list, but...

Question 21: Why is it when someone tries to point out how UNracist they are, they wind up saying something racist?

[[[14. Do you think Herman Cain would embrace a company called “Sambo’s Chittlins” as he’d expect me to embrace a name like “Godfather’s Pizza?”

15. If the 2012 presidential race is between Cain and Obama who will US racists vote for?]]]]

Seriously lady? Is "Sambo's Chitlins" even remotely equivalent to "Godfather's Pizza" - The "Godfather" was a bestselling novel that became a critically acclaimed film both here and abroad. And ya know what, Italians do make pizza. I've been there, I promise it's true. To equate the two as being one and the same is irresponsible and absurd... and racist.
Glad to have your take on things, Charlie Kazfanco...and that is why they make vanilla and strawberry.
Thanks for the smile-slash-grimace this morning : )

#2 -- I am so confused by the Republican Party....and the Democratic Party...these days.

#7 -- Indeed....

#10 -- I don't know but I wish she would stop! Even the Today show seems to marginalize her and puts Natalie whoever-she-is more upfront.

#17 -- That's the conversation around our table these days...

#18 -- I'm staying in touch with my DEAR friend in New Zealand : )

#20 -- Not sure, but that would be lovely if the Supreme Divine Being decided to pitch in more...humans need help.

Have a good one, Mary Ann!
Thanks Just Thinking....New Zealand is good....
I really wish I could come up with a solution to all of the above that bother me one way or the other every day, and most days i don't know if GOD is listening to me, however, #13 looks very interesting to me

All reasonable questions. We just can't always count on reasonable answers. Witty, satirical, and salient writing, as always!
Maybe it will be solved by having the dumb-as-*%$# Khardashians run with Lindsay Lohan as the VP-that gets the entire dumb-@ss vote out of the mix. Unfortunately, more people are aware of the goings on of reality TV than our government. Perhaps we need some shows such as "Boehner's Babes"(because he would never worry about offending women), "The Cantor Coast", or "Living it up with the Lobbyists" to get the attention of the iltelligence -impaired! R
oops-intelligence-typo!
re: Lindsay Lohan, she should be sentenced to the same "community service" as other miscreants of her ilk, i.e. "road crew" where she shows up at 7:30 a.m. and is out on the road with a deputy and about 6 other people until 4 picking up trash, knocking down brush, etc., physical labor done publically. And, encourage cameras to tape her performing her hours "pour l'encouragment d'autres".
Hey, this was a cool piece. Some interesting questions and some interesting jabs being taken. Well done.
OK Mary Ann you finally hit my hot button that made me post a comment. Number 10--Ann Curry!!! What a disaster. I use to watch the first 30 minutes of the Today show but she has driven me away even from that limited time. She not only has that phony intensity but she has trouble asking a question in less than 10 seconds.
You ask what's wrong with people...watch what has happen to mainstream media ...no serious reporting of news....we have tabloid journalism...leadoff stories this week involve Lohan or the Kardashniaks, or Michael Jacksons doctor's trial. We have entered the Twilight Zone where our world is one big Reality TV Show!!! Never mind In God We Trust.. should be God Help Us!!!
Thanks, Walter...I treasure encouragement from you, one of my oldest OS friends (especially now that the "powers that be" have decided I will never get another EP apparently...This is the price one pays for hinting they may have their heads up their butts...)
Jane- I Like the way you think !

Bob Calabro...I KNEW we could agree politically on the stuff that really matters!! I'm with you on the media circus out there! Thanks for commenting
1-16. It's too damn depressing and shameful.

17. Yes.

18. I don't know, but let me know and I'll follow!

20. No. We did this to ourselves and it is up to us to fix it.
OK. I took you seriously.

1) True conservatives are not so much interested in truth, facts, or consistency of actions with professed beliefs, as they are with standing with and behind members of their in-group. They might support an axe murderer if he espoused their values.
2) Refer to 1.
3) Careful. This is precisely the argument that was used in support of the poll tax, and the argument that only individuals with property should be allowed to vote.
4) Less than already exists. Ditto Charlie Sheen.
5) The idiot majority that shouldn’t be allowed to vote? Why do socialebrities exist at all? It says a lot about the bankrupt values of a large segment of the population who want to emulate the completely superficial and selfish lifestyle of the Kim Kardashians, Paris Hiltons and the like.
6) Kim is a good argument for state run sterilization clinics.
7) Barack is the only rational choice. I don’t think there is a true progressive within the ranks of the Democratic Party who will challenge him, and a third party candidate would just split the vote on the left giving the Republicans a shoe in.
8) Friends in Texas say he is an idiot who panders to the far Right. Nothing that has happened to date (including his debacle on last night’s debate has done anything to refute that).
9) I think that his behavior to date has pre-screened him. I think his toast is burned and the right just hasn’t smelled it yet.
10) Pass. I’m not familiar with her.
11) Thinking jocks is almost an oxymoron. Conservatives will ignore the issue because it is important to have sports, otherwise there would be nothing for them to talk about. The left think an education is more important than sports. How foolish.
12) Start in front of Kardashian’s.
13) The Vatican has withstood centuries of challenges from within and without managing to avoid any meaningful reform.
14) Probably not, and he wouldn’t grasp the inconsistency.
15) Cain. Refer to 1)
16) Curmudgeony bigot. He reminds me of my father who, on retiring from the post office said that the only thing he would miss was a black coworker, “because he’s a good n****r.” He universally disliked groups not like him, yet some of his best friends were “other”. Hard to understand.
17) Refer to 18)
18) No place to go.
19) It’s hard to understand making a choice that won’t help your career.
20) Probably some do. They also think that Ed McMann is going to knock on their door and that they will win the lottery.
In regard to question #20, I just saw an interview with Darrel Hammond author of, "God, if you're not up there I'm f*cked." I think that is the level of belief most have.
Thanks, Rodney...Actually I think there are plenty of places to go, but Americans have so much trouble expatriating. They love to drink the damn Kool Aid.
