The Boys announced today via their website that they have to postpone their summer tour and new album because sing Adam MCA Yauch has a rare form of cancer of the salivary gland.

The message today was as direct, real, and suprisingly full of wit as anything you'd expect from the Beasties. Even in sickness, they're so damn cool.

Hits home. I think those of us of a certain vintage have grown up with these guys.

Gotta respect the "realness" of telling fans directly and I'm pretty blown away that they'd apologize for how this may impact people's schedules.

He has cancer in one of his salivary glands. It is a rare cancer and very rare in someone so young. The cancer is not in his throat, and should not affect his larynx. Caught early he should be okay... but it has been reported in the LA Times that cancer was found to have spread to one of his lymph nodes and THAT is not so good. Lymph node involvement usually bumps you right up (or down depending on how you look at it) to a stage 3.

Sure hope he gets through this with a minimum of trouble. Sucks.
