I'm not sure if I could explain it to anybody significantly younger but... if you were a teenager in 1982, Tron was very likely the first thing that turned you into a big computer nerd.

Well that and Pong.

Ergo, this is a moment twenty eight years in the making. If there's a geek heaven, I'm in it.

What a coincidence to see your post about Tron 2 and thank you for the heads up about it. I rented the original movie just recently and did see it when the film came out in '82. A classmate from high school worked on the computer animation at MAGI in Elmsford, NY for the original TRON and I remember a lot of excitement about the film when I attended the SIGGRAPH conference in Boston that year.

I thought that Jeff Bridges looked old, then I realized.. he is, compared to when Tron the first came out. I'm looking forward to it.

My son got introduced to Tron through his favorite video game Kingdom Hearts 2, which had asegment with Tron. He's geeked about this movie coming out, too.

yeah, awesome. I wonder who will star in this one. some of the greatest scifi movies owe a big debt to tron, such as the matrix.
disney has a pretty bad record with scifi, I cant think of a success, & there are failures like tron/black hole. yes tron was a huge commercial flop at the time as I recall. I wonder if it has recouped losses from geek views on dvd.
