Ralphie's still shooting

Rate: 6 Flag

Remember this kid? Star of the greatest, most quotable holiday movie ever? (And no, I will not bear any disptuing on this point.)

He's quietly toiled away as an actor all these years, with tiny parts in movies like "The Breakup" and "Four Christmases." Check it out. He's the ticket agent.

But now he's moved on.

I was reading the Fall movie preview issue of EW, as is my wont, and noticed that October's "Couple's Retreat" is directed by none other than Peter Billingsley.

It's written by his pals Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn, so I'd like to be hopeful, although the trailer bums me out. (Seriously, why would all those fine ladies get with those gone-to-seed dudes?)

I admit that when I read that Billingsley was helming a feature, I immediately pictured him sulking behind a camera, bunny suit a-go-go.

Think again.

Ummm. I think I wouldn't mind double dog daring it with that.

I don't whether "Couples Retreat" will be any good whatsoever. But I'd like to think that somewhere, Bob Clark, the man who directed "A Christmas Story" after giving the world "Porky's," is smiling.

Well here's hoping that "Ralphie" is very successful. He'll always be "Ralphie" to me just like Ron Howard is "Opie".

Wow, Ralphie's looking pretty good these days!
Best.Christmas.Movie.EVER!

Hello!! who knew Ralphie was looking so good!
He and Vaughn are old friends. In fact, I auditioned for a role in "The Breakup" that eventually went to...yep, his old pal Pete. On a side note, he can be seen briefly in "Iron Man" as the balding scientist working with Jeff Bridges.
I divide the world into people who get it when you say "frah-geeeel-ay" and people who don't.
I was just at that Christmas Story house the other day. It's in Cleveland, where I live, and I was passing by. I know you don't want to hear it, but I think the movie is overrated. I didn't like the bullying theme. I know, what a wet blanket. Whatev. :)
Lainey, my mom wants us all to go see the Christmas Story house next time we're up there. I love the shots of downtown Cleveland and Higbee's department store all done up in Christmas finery. I worked downtown all through the 80's, when Euclid Avenue actually had places where you could shop. I think it was the last gasp for the old-style Cleveland downtown, which is a real shame. I so loved downtown - I even got married in the Old Stone Church on Public Square.
Who would've guessed Ralphie would grow up gorgeous?
I adore Christmas Story - and it's timeless - it still works, even on my old jaded teens.

I may be wrong, but I think Peter B's kept his hand in all along, both acting and directing... maybe t.v. stuff?
I took Christmas Story to Australia last year and my step-kids thought it was great! Bear in mind that their concept of Christmas is that it comes mid-Summer.

No arguments from me about the merits of "A Christmas Story." My kids also like it, even now that they're adults.
