Update on Haitian Relief:

My daughter who  works for an International Peace organization across the street from the United Nations, has many UN contacts. She just emailed me this.

"A lot of people I know who are much more knowledgeable than I am about Haiti recommend donating to Partners in Health.  I think this is the one featured in the book "Mountains Beyond Mountains" that won the Pulitzer Prize.

In today's New  York Times,  Tracy Kidder, the author of Mountains Beyond Mountains, explains why Partners in Health might be the best place to donate:

But there are effective aid organizations working in Haiti. At least one has not been crippled by the earthquake. Partners in Health, or in Haitian Creole Zanmi Lasante, has been the largest health care provider in rural Haiti. (I serve on this organization’s development committee.) It operates, in partnership with the Haitian Ministry of Health, some 10 hospitals and clinics, all far from the capital and all still intact. As a result of this calamity, Partners in Health probably just became the largest health care provider still standing in all Haiti.

Make sure you read Linda Shiue's post, How to Help Haiti Today. She lists six excellent ways to help.

Always good to know of a group that gets it right. Thanks.
Thanks. I have long been a fan of Paul Farmer and Partners in Health, and posted on them yesterday too. I have direct donation links to them and other great aid organizations on this post:
