Open Call--Unlike OS, CBS Gets Breastfeeding Right

Join me in a campaign to defeat the Amy Formula C-Section monster. I  am horrified to  what irresponsible  lengths the editors  will go to attract hits and ads.  We should be picketing them.

I was a childbirth educator and breastfeeding counselor for over ten years. Two of my children were born at home.  I realize most of us ignore Dr. Amy, but a distressing number of people mistake fanaticism for professional knowledge.

I am going to use OS Editor to start posting links to excellent back posts on breastfeeding and childbirth. I urge you to  repost what you  have previously written, no matter how old it is.

When I was pregnant with my first girl in 1973, standard pregnancy books told you to avoid an obstetrician whose C section rate was over 5 percent.

I highly recommend the Facebook Group, Birthing Beautiful Ideas, a feminist guide to pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding.

I have been puzzled and weirded-out by all the anti-breastfeeding articles. I mean, one post about the pros/cons, the difficulties, the mixed feelings would have been enough, but this is the third (?) negative article about breastfeeding? (I wish I had a post to share. I'll just read the others you dig up.)
It was her post about eating veggies and cancer that inspired my Ode to Broccoli poem. Broccoli doesn't fight cancer, it provides nutrition that helps your immune system fight cancer- indirectly -supporting dozens of enzyme pathways. But to say that there's no proof that eating good nutrition impacts disease rates is completely blind to the reality of the world around is. The issue of breastfeeding is that our society doesn't support women to breastfeed in REALITY, not because it's irrelevant or unnecessary. Health has become a commodity and a lifestyle choice instead of our natural way of living. ???
What it says is that Open Salon will publish outright lies to attract ads.? I am going to publish my best breastfeeding picture under the caption, "No one told me it wold be so much fun. Is this legal? Will I be arrested for sexually exploiting a minor?
Don't you wish she'd stayed gone after her flounce?

I, too, am deeply ashamed that Salon has decided to give her attention. I've been reading and promoting (and when I could, financially supporting) Salon for over a decade, and I don't think I can in good conscious continue to tell people that Salon is an accurate news source any longer. Not if "Doctor" Amy is going to be touted as an expert.
Amy, why don't you try flagging the post and cut and paste your excellent comment? If enough of us did it, they might have to pay attention.
That is a very good idea.
So glad you are doing this. I was so outraged that I did flag her, (even before reading this.) I agree, I quoted you in a post, and I salute you!

Thank you so much for this effort. I remember very clearly being a young mother and how vulnerable I was to misinformation, and bullying.
She says she nursed all four of her children. I am beginning to wonder about her rationality.
I have a post on formula's being a part of a capitalist conspiracy. It is a short post...a little bit of humor, but with a serious point. I'll repost it...but if you are looking for something with a different tone I won't feel miffed if you don't use it on OS Editor. I have another one that is a memoir about my first breastfeeding experience, but not sure if this is what you would want, because I do end up weaning my son after he loudly proclaims he "wants mommy's breasts". (see my old posts "Breast Matters")
This is very important and i'm glad you are advocating.I'll be following.Rated for Responsible Action.
I just read a post about breastfeeding by Mimetalker. You have an excellent idea.
