The revelation of Mitt Romney's past as a prep-school bully is upsetting, disappointing, and not entirely unexpected. It's upsetting because so many Americans have had to deal with bullying for being just a little bit different than the crowd. It's disappointing because this cruelty is coming from someone who considers themselves fit to run the country (although if our last few presidents are any indicator, cruelty might be a pretty good qualification). And it's certainly the type of behavior to expect from someone who's not the most accepting person in the world. But should our adult selves be held accountable for our high school prejudices?
Have you ever bullied and grown to deeply regret it? Were you bullied yourself? Open Salon is putting out a call for your bullying stories -- and stories from both the bully and the bullied are welcome.
